Sleeve and thyroid (hypothyroid)
Carol1560 replied to Skywalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no!! Take your thyroid jmeds EVERYDAY!!! I wouldnt chance the side affects of not having my meds. The pounds will come off slowly, be paitient. And remember not everybody on here tells the truth -
It will be fine, you wait and see. I licked the plastic spoons from Popeye's ;mashed tators with gravy, Talk about bad

You did not gain that weight all at once so you will not lose it all at once. The slower the better, if you can believe that. I lost my weight and I exercised and you cannot ever tell by looking at my skin that I weighed that much
-
Couple of things for you to remember. 1. Your weight is going to flux 1-2 all the time depending on different things, like is it your time of the month?
-
I had my thyroid removed in 2009 and will be on synthryoid forever. My meds dropped and then second tests (6-8 months later), the med level had to be readjusted to what it was when I first started. My point is to keep up with those numbers.

Hmm There are lots of Doctors in Baton Rouge that do WLS and good results. I hope that you are happy with your surgeon and have faith that he will take care of business.

How necessary is this pre-op diet?
Carol1560 replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, they are the experts. I also believe that "Most" doctors want their patients to enter this journey with a positive attitude because their chances of success are much higher with a positive attitude. And I think that concept is fairly easy to grasp. So both you and the drs knowing that, why would they risk ruining that attitude with anything that they felt was unnecessary or wouldnt contribute in a positive manner to their surgery. I did it and if I was told that I needed to do it again with the liquid diet prior to the surgery, I would do it again. -

Carol1560 replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well once you have the surgery, you will find out that is what you will be doing for a while is an liquid diet. So you might as well get used to it. It can also be viewed as a tool. Getting some of your stomach cut out for weight loss is an brutual move, so might as well make it smooth as can be -

It all gets better believe me. And if you havent been there, you havent done it. Just dont stock up too much on anything before surgery, cause your taste might change -
How necessary is this pre-op diet?
Carol1560 replied to Luana526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well lets put it into a perspective you might get, how do you like working on raw chicken or raw liver? If it is coated with a slick coating of fat, it is difficult to handle. So with that being said, the diet that you are on will reduce the coating of the fat on your liver, the doctor has to move it to get to your stomach. It is healthier for you to lose that extra fat and it is easier for your surgeon. WIth that being said, yeah I cheated on my preop diet but I did not go crazy and I stopped all of that within two weeks of my surgery cause I did not want to add any risks to my surgery or my life. -
Lets see on Wednesday, I think you will be groggy! Make sure you follow Lavin's orders to the T and you will do good. I came home and never used any of my pain meds. Just take your time and heal. Dont overdo it and it will be easy peasy. And dont listen to your head, cause you might get head hunger but you can be strong

Dont worry about LAVIN, I have a couple of friends who used him and they said LOVE HIM! They had no surgery related issues. I had my surgery done with Dr. Taylor. LOVED him

Carol1560 replied to fezik23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello I had my surgery when I was 53 and I had my thryoid removed to calm the effects of Graves Disease. I have lost 60 lbs and doing good. I had my surgery 5/15/2013 so I am 18 months out. I could not be happier. I do think that the weight loss is slower for us with thyroid issues The important aspect is EXERCISE. You dont want those bat wings. Good luck and be patient -

Scared to death and looking for a surgeon in Baton Rouge, LA!
Carol1560 replied to LindsayLouLou's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I used Womens Hospital and they were wonderful -
Well first of all, EVERYBODY's Rate of Weight loss is and gonna be different. My dr gave me a magic number as a goal. For example: 80 lb goal, 60 lbs lost would be 75% of goal. Drs consider weight loss over 50% of goal to be a success. I also believe slow and steady is the way to go. You do not want to lose so much weigh so fast that you affect other areas of concern. Also make sure that when you feel good enough, incorporate walking into your daily routine. Reduces that saggy skin and great for future.
