Sleeve and thyroid (hypothyroid)
Carol1560 replied to Skywalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had total removal of thyroid. I had sleeve surgery and my synthroid dosage dropped to 112 which thrilled my doctors -
Trader Joe's is the ultimate for us sleevers. The portions are premade and usually a size where we will not waste a bunch of stuff. I lived on fried eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and Protein shakes along with cream of chicken Soup and mushroom soup. There is nothing better than some smoked turkey breast wrapped around a piece of cheese.

Conflicting advice from my Pros--what's a girl to do?
Carol1560 replied to katesuccess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr told me to do 1200 calories a day. Do the math, as long as you have more going out than in, you will loose weight. I prefer to lose slow and surely and not have to deal with the baggy skin. I try to walk at least a mile everyday. I do 80 grams of Protein a day and 64 ounces of fluids. Have fun with this journey, just make sure that there are no uturns on this road -
Calling All Long Term Sleevers: How Much Food Does Your Stomach Hold Now?
Carol1560 replied to Dooter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, I am really suprised at some of these answers. WIth me, it depends on what I am trying to eat. But if you follow the rules, Protein first The protein is much denser and is sitting heavy in the tummy. So I can eat like medium chicken breast and maybe 1/2 cup of salad. I am thirteen months out. I still feel restriction and get hiccups. -
Is anyone eating mashed rice or potatoe on puree stage?
Carol1560 replied to ssbills's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my NUT, not to eat rice or mashed potatoes. The first thing I had was mashed potatoes and they were yummy. Then I ate refried Beans. But I was told to stay away from those types of carbs because you will not maximize your potential for weight loss. During the puree stage, I had cream of chicken Soup, cream of mushroom and having it blenderized. I know it is tempting, but try to avoid those two fer sure! Rice will swell up in your tummy after eating it, so keep that one to a minimum -

13 months out - normal capacity?
Carol1560 replied to Linkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pretty much the same way, BTW I am thirteen months out as well I find if I eat until I am full and not just eat to eat and not fill up. I get like that. I think that when that happens to you that you are UNDEReating your sleeve. I eat until I start to fill my restriction or hickup. If I eat the small amount that is on my plate, I will be ready to eat in a couple hours afterwards. And after I eat, I wait 30-45 minutes and then I get something to drink. Most times you definately will not eant to eat anything else I am usually close to 1200 calories a day. Thank god you got off the Topamax...bad stuff- -
Refried Beans with cheese eggs, fried or scrambled with ham, cheese or some veggies I ate lunch meat, ham rolled around a piece of baby swiss --- yummy
-
Dump the crackers chicken and green Beans Do not eat corn............................... I know that my taste buds changed a lot. BUT I was told to drop the carbs and stay under 35 grams a day to ensure maximum weight loss

Carol1560 replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Carol1560 replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well its entirely up to the individual but I would not take the chance, EVEN if I was feeling well. I was tired but yeah I am sure I could have went to work after a week but............... Too many complications can happen. One thing I was absolutely positive about................I did not want to crap my pants at work accidently!! IT was better to make sure that I understood all the warning signs that my tummy was giving me after eating, drinking and starting my mushfood. Everything is different. -
HELP Scared only lost 5lbs in a month.
Carol1560 replied to nesa83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well and I am to the point where I am losing inches instead of lbs. I got into size 12 in December, size 10 in March and now close to July I am getting ready to drop down to size 8. My weight is about the same but my skin is firm and not saggy. SO I guess I am happy where I am now. I eat 1200 calories a day and sometimes cheat a little but I make it up by walking. My BMI is around 26 so life is good. I have no thyroid and almost ready for AARP membership LOL -

LOL I lose and regain the same lbs. I lost 2 lbs in 6 months and my dr said that was good. That was from my Oct appointment and then the next apt was May. So dont worry -
Knowing what you know now.......

I like the fitbit flex, gosh it keeps me in line! Yeah the chapstick is a must, And get a pedicure before your surgery. You will not be able to do your tootsies for a while. No do not stock up on everything ...you will get cabin fever. I made my husband crazy with "take me to winn dixie for some yogurt" and I would buy two containers of yogurt. That is cause I wanted to go somewhere. Make sure you get over the hospital stuff, like the drugs the sleepy guy gives you, they will mess you up for a while. I know I had cream of mushroom Soup and cream of chicken, that I would put in a blender and sip for something different. But your taste will change, I would love a salt lick I bought gummy Vitamins from walmart -

Carol1560 replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I hope it works out for you. As you know this is MAJOR surgery and not to be taken lightly. I know that my dr even went as far to say no driving if you are taking painkillers and anti-naustia medicine. All I am saying, is better to be safe than sorry. I did fine and probably could have came back to work after a week but who knows? I know people who have had issues and have taken off anywhere between 2 - 8 weeks. Everybody is different. -

Carol1560 replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well if you are planning on getting surgery this summer and you are here in the south, I would be very cautious about going back to work too fast. The heat will do a number on you. It would be very easy to get dehydrated and that would not be good. I guess it is different for everybody. I just did not want to get into any uncomfortable situations at work. You probably will not have a firm stool for a while, maybe not until the second week after surgery. I would not like to go to work and have to deal with something, shall I say unexpected? -
I had my sleeve done on 5/15/2013 and I am thrilled. My dr was Dr. Taylor and he is the bomb! If anyone is interested in doing a Baton Rouge Group, please let me know carol1560@bellsouth.net Thanks

Post 1 year. NO more weight loss ?
Carol1560 replied to clearright446's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am one year (May 15th) and my weight has not flucuated one single lb in 54 days. I have 1000-1200 calories a day. I exercise religiously and change it up at time dues to weather and life's general twists and turns. Would I like to lose more? Of course, I have lost 62 lbs but now I am losing inches. So I am thinking I would like to continue to sport a full head of hair and not have saggy skin and thrilled to be in a size 10 pants and my BMI is <27 Went to the Dr and he said, "Oh good" you lost 2 lbs since your last visit. He said that I lost 83% of goal weight in year. Not to worry. -
