Hi all, I had to go through a 6 month program with my insurance and didn't really lose anything. Once it was complete I went and had my first round of appointments. My husband is doing this with me, but he is getting the bypass. So it helps that we are both doing this. The NUT counseled us and told us what to do, and we really did well other than a night or two out to dinner during the month of logging. We went back and I had lost 17 lbs. I don't feel that I am really losing as much as I thought I would with the amount that I have changed in my eating habits. Granted I haven't had surgery yet-but I really thought I would lose more-it's been a couple of weeks since we went back to the NUT and I don't think I am down much more than the 17. I am not having surgery until August 21st because my husband is going first-so I am not sure how much more I can lose between now and then. I am a type 2 diabetic and I am not sure if that is playing a factor or not. Will my weight loss pick up after surgery? I am just wondering if anyone else went through the same thing or not. Thanks!

Almost 1 year out and need advice for more weight loss
Taylor06 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all, I am almost 1 year out from my surgery date (I have lost 121 total pre-op and post op). I am going on vacation in 58 days (but who's counting) and I would like to lose another 15 pounds in that time. I don't think I can do it because I am losing much slower now. I do exercise 3-6 times a week (pretty intense workouts). I am wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions to help me get try to get to my goal before vacation. It's not my final goal I just want to be under 200 by the time I go on vacation. I thought I would be at my true goal now which is about another 55 pounds from where I am now. So I still have weight to lose, just very slow. Any thoughts? Thanks! -

Hi all, The hospital that I had my sleeve done and my husband had his gastric bypass is asking us to do a video for their website and it will also be used at a fundraiser. My question is: I really want to have plastic surgery when I am done losing my weight. I am down 94 pounds and I still want to lose another 70-80. I know I am going to have skin issues, I already have issues with my thighs and arms and I am sure my stomach is going to be an issue. (I would also like to have a breast lift) Do you think I should ask the hospital for them to donate some of these services for me or give me a discount in exchange for the video? I just don’t want to come off like I expect them to do that for me in exchange for the video, but it would be really nice if they could help me out with it.

I am just looking for anyone from Boston MA? I am going to be having surgery ad B.I. with Dr. Schneider.

Hi All, I was sleeved on August 28th. I lost 32 pounds before surgery and 37 since surgery for a total of 69 pounds, and I am still very disappointed. I lost most of my 37 the first few weeks after surgery. I did hit the dreaded 3 week stall, but I am so slow at losing and I was over 300 pounds when I started, so I still have a lot to lose. I would be happy with another 100 to 120 (not sure if it will ever happen). I am eating so much less than before surgery obviously, and I walk a mile to a mile and a half as many nights as possible, I try to make sure I get 5 nights a week in. I do have days where I don’t get all of my meals and Water in and I am not sure if that is my problem or not, but I am so frustrated with the slow weight loss. I am not giving up, but sometimes I really feel like that. My nutritionist does not want us eating any carbs, and once in a while I will have a very tiny scoop of potatoes or half of an English muffin when I have eggs. I am not perfect, but I feel for what I am putting into my body compared to before this surgery and how much walking I am doing that there is no way I shouldn’t be losing more weight. I do know some days I am not doing well with it because I won’t get all 3 meals in and those days I really struggle with water too. I am two months out now and very fearful that I am not going to lose a lot more weight. The scale has been stuck again for a 3 week period other than a 2 lb loss. I was just wondering if anyone else is going through this and if so how they are dealing with it? Or if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Very Slow Weight Loss-Depressed!
Taylor06 replied to Taylor06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the comments and advice. I have just been in a stall for a few weeks now. I am going nuts. I just feel for what I am putting into my body, there should be some results on a weekly basis. The first stall I had around the 3 week mark at least I was feeling the difference in my clothes. This time not as much with the clothes. I do have carbs sometimes, I had part of a baked potato with my dinner last night-tasted really good-hopefully it doesn't screw me up more than I already am. I am going to try to stay positive! Thanks again! -
Hi all, Anyone out here August 28th? I was the 21st, but they had to move my surgery by a week.

Laura, I am always on the board, but don't post a lot. I read a lot of your posts-I honestly thought from your profile picture that you were in your 20's! Congrats on the weight loss and congrats on the new car, what kind of car is it?

Hi Pink, I am starting to get nervous, but my husband is having surgery next week so that is distracting me for the moment. Where are you from/having your surgery? I am having mine in Boston and I am hoping to lose about 150 lbs.
-
Sue, That doesn't sound too bad. I am worried that I am going to fail at this just like everything else. I am worried that I shouldn't get the sleeve and I should get the bypass. I don't know why I am doubting my decision all of a sudden. I hope you are still feeling well. Please keep me posted about how you are doing.

Worried I will fail and need Bypass
Taylor06 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I have been overweight pretty much my whole life-and need to lose about 170 lbs. Since I went for my first appointment and met with the NUT I have lost about 20-25 lbs in 1 1/2 months. My surgery is not until August-my husband is having surgery this month (he is having the bypass). I am so worried that I will fail at this like I have with everything else before this, that I am afraid I will need the bypass and then that makes me wonder if I should just get that and not get the Sleeve. I am wondering if anyone else has felt that same way-that they will fail and not lose the weight. -
Need help with what to tell a few people?
Taylor06 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I need some suggestions/opinions/help with a situation. My husband is getting the bypass surgery at the end of this month and I am getting the sleeve the middle of next month. We have only told certain people and I don’t plan on telling very many people-just because I have seen firsthand some of the negative reactions and once you tell someone you can’t take it back. So here is my first situation-one of my best friends is having a birthday party for her son right after my husband has surgery-so I want to tell her he is having surgery, but don’t want to tell her what it is for, she has the biggest mouth and is the type to say (in front of a room full of people) oh you look so great since your weight loss surgery! We also have neighbors that we aren’t planning on telling just because we don’t want a lot of people knowing. My sister told me it’s nothing to be ashamed of, but I really just am not at a point of being able to deal with anything negative right now. I might be able to tell more people after, but not now. So here is my question-did anyone say they were having surgery, but say it was for something different? Also, how did you handle the questions after about losing the weight-without mentioning the surgery? Thanks for any help or suggestions! Thanks! -
It is amazing how negatively people react to WLS in general. My mother wasn't thrilled at first when I told her about it, but said she wants me to be healthy. Her main concern is she is worried about it being dangers and complications. My husband is on board because he is having bypass before I have my surgery. My mother asked me to tell my brother and sister (sister already knows because I am close to her), but other than that I told one friend, my boss, one girl on my team. My boss told one of my other co-workers because she asked her something about my medical leave on the vacation calendar and she thought I had discussed it with her before. My husband is not planning on telling his sisters-which is good because they are so self absorbed anyway. I have a best friend I am not telling because she tells my business to everyone and is the type to say at a party oh you look so great since your surgery-in front of everyone-so needless to say she will not know! I am sick of people saying it's a cheat or the easy way out. They are just ignorant in my opinion. I also want to say-I hate when you tell someone and they feel it's their place to tell whoever they want-they can't just keep things private. I think you did a great thing speaking up to everyone-it's really sad that they have to be like that and not just be happy that the person opted to do something to make themselves healthier.

Hi all, I am pre-op. My husband and I are actually meeting with the surgeon this week to sign our release and get our surgery date (he is having the bypass and I am having the Sleeve). Next week I have to get a uterine polyp removed (so thankful they fit me in rather than having to wait 6 weeks). I have another problem, my former GYN took me off of my birth control pills and suggested Mirena. She stopped practicing and now I have a new GYN who found the polyp, but she no longer does surgery so I have to go to another guy in her practice-so I don't know that I am really getting the right direction-because I have not been with these doctors long. I have read too many horror stories about Mirena so I am going to say no to it. The only issue I really have is the heavy periods, which started after I came off the pill. They Dr. said he does not think the polyp removal will cure it, and said I could consider Ablation. I am not sure what to do, I of course have read good and bad things about it and sort of have to make up my mind this week. I was also wondering if a D&C is something I could consider. Can anyone who has had the Ablation or D&C tell me your experience? I am so nervous!! Thanks!

Sorry to hear that Heather. It has gone well so far, I had it done on the 18th and still have very light discharge & rarely a little bit of bleeding. I went for my post op today and he told me the discharge could last up to a few more weeks. I won't know about my cycle for another week to 3 weeks because it was very often and heavy. The day of surgery I had it and I went home with pretty much no bleeding. I did have a d&c as well and a polyp removal. He told me if things didn't improve to come back and we could talk about other options. Have you talked to your dr. about other options? Sorry it didn't work for you!

Wow Rachel, that's great. I am in August because my husband is having surgery first at the end of July. You must be excited-it's right around the corner! Hi Sue, congrats. How have you been feeling?
-
Hi Rachel, how are you? I am not from Boston either, but that is where I am having my sugery. When are you having your surgery? I am August 21st.

Ok, I have a crazy question-what is a "normal" size. Meaning what is a size that you can pretty much buy in any store? I am pre-op and honestly know I can do this in terms of losing the weight, but I never feel like I will be shopping for "normal" clothes. I just keep praying that I will make it there! I have NEVER been able to shop in a store that doesn't have plus size clothes, so I have no idea what sizes the normal stores have!
