I have the Mirena and like it. The insertion was uncomfortable to say the least (and I have delivered two babies) but its temporary. My surgery pain was worse than the IUD insertion. I did have problems for a few weeks adjusting to it. I do not know if my body tried to reject it or if it was physiological but I could feel it was there. I had an untrasound and it was placed perfectly. Then after a few weeks I stopped feeling it. Haven't had any problems since. I like not having monthly cycles.

I had an undignosed Hiatial Hernia that was repaired during surgery. You'll be fine you won't even be able to tell. If the doctor didn't tell me about it I would have known. But then I would have attributed the lack of the pains in my chest to the PPI and smaller tummy

No BM for WEEKS! HELP!
jatherley replied to nashiemmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try added benefiber to your daily routine. It will help. I've had problems too. I mix some benefiber with my morning shake and it has helped. -
Yeah I've noticed anything greasy hurts. Pizza was the first bread type I've tried and I'm in no hurry to repeat that experiment. I tried some chili a couple weeks ago and it hurt but it might have been too early for it. I do eat a lot of rotisserie chicken. I get it pre-made at the supermarket. I love it but it's getting old. I started eating sliced cheeses. My first slice of swiss cheese was heavenly. I picked up some roasted Edemame while at World Market today. I'm going to give them a try as a snack. They say lightly salted. I'm hoping them are not as high in sodium as the pumpkin seeds.

I haven't made good food choices the last couple days. Thursday I had to work late and had a friend pick my son up from daycare for me. She wanted to meet at a local chinese restrauant so she could get supper for her and her partner. I thought well since I'm here I'll get supper for my family too (I did work late after all). I was all like I'll get this rice noodle dish and only eat a little of the meat and the hubby can have the rest. Well of course I didn't just eat the meat. I didn't eat much but I was miserable afterwards. Then yesterday after picking the kids up I asked my daughter what she wanted for supper and she says pizza. Well I was tired and didnt really want to cook anyway. So pizza it was. I had two tiny bites of crust and scraped the toppings of the rest of it. I felt miserable once again. This morning I step on the scale and I've gained. So, now I have a list of foods I can not have. Chinese and pizza. I think I will be grilling up some meats this weekend to either freeze or keep in the fridge for the week. As tired as I'm getting of meat i'd rather not feel like that or gain weight again.

Sorry about your MIL I know that can be stressful. So is moving. I have always found getting off track to be very easy. I would say I've got too much stress or I'm too busy to cook so lets order in or go out for dinner. Then that one meal turns into a week of meals then a month. Before I knew it I had gained another 25lbs. I'm seriously trying to not fall into that this time. I really do have good intentions. For me it's going to be trying to find what works with my schedule and my tummy.

I've cooked several meals at one time and frozen them before. Some of the best weight loss success I've had was when I was doing that with Weight Watchers recipes. I also started canning. If you've never canned it's a very interesting venture. I wait until something goes on sale and I purchase several pounds and can it. I did 100 lbs of green beans a few months ago. I have jars of canned green beans with no added salt or preservatives. I have done beef stew, 100 lbs of tomatoes in to different sauces, dices with seasonings and salsa. Makes things easier. I prefer home cooked meals to the meals found in the freezer section. My issue is during the week I simply do not have time to cook a decent meal. I have been thinking about going back to pre-cooking different meals and freeze for an easier week. I need to find more carb friendly recipes to cook.

For some reason I never think about the crock pot. I know several interesting recipes for use in the crock pot. I'm just no good at planning to do them. Although my eating habits aren't the greatest I have been doing god stearing clear of carbs such as breads, pasta's and since surgery. My plate is always mostly Protein with a vegi and sometimes a small starch of sorts usually a potato or I've tried corn (hard to chew enough but yummy). I'm experimenting with flavors and preperation. I need variety and plain grilled chicken gets boring. I can not eat more than a few bites and I will admit that at least 2 bites are normally a vegi (I miss vegis) and I usually will have a bite of my starch but that's all I can handle of the starch. I can't sit and eat only protein either. After about the 4th straight bite I feel like gagging. I need to break it up.aA bite or two protein and then a green bean. Now at my last Dr visit she told me that I needed more protein calories for my weight loss to pick up. I've been a slow loser. Only in the past 2 weeks have I been able eat without nausea. Which makes me not want to eat at all. A suggestion I got from this forum was to try pumpkin seeds as a snack. Although not as high in protein as I would have liked. I can eat them with no issues. I have wondered though if they are too high in sodium. They are store bought and very salty. And my gain, although annoying was only 0.8 lbs (went from 227.4 to 228.2 how annoying is that?). Now that I stop and think about it. It could very possibly be Fluid retention. Between the pizza, chinese and pumpkin seeds. I know I can do better. I know I can make better choices. I need to plan better and have meals prepared ahead time for my busy or late week nights. I know all of this. I just have a hard time putting knowledge into practice. I also know that I will continue finding things that I can not tolorate along the way. I just needed a place to voice my annoyance and have someone understand where I'm coming from. No one really understands unless they have been there.

First stools
jatherley replied to GlutenFreeSingleMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you have to swollow that nasty liquid stuff for your leak test? That stuff has to come out too. It made my stool very dark (black) and upset my tummy. Is it possible that's the cause? -
Need encouragement
jatherley replied to laffypatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me to eat more often. I'm 6 wks out and have lost 10lbs in the last 4 wks. She said if I could eat protein more often then I would loose faster. -
Other than walking and gas x. I used a heating pad on my left shoulder and upper back one evening. The next day when I woke up the gas pains were gone.

So I was talkin to my dad today. Kind of giving him an update on my progress. I'm 6 weeks post-op 55 lbs down total (between pre-op and post). I was explaining that my doctor wants me to try getting in my Protein calories by eating more often. Since I can't eat very much at a time. And what does he say? "I wish you wouldn't have gone so drastic and had so much of your stomach removed" Really? Like I would have been able to go to the surgeon and said "Hi there. I'm obese and I know you normally remove 80% of the stomach but I'd like to still eat food afterwards so can you remove say 50% instead? That'd be great. Thanks!" Bless him. I know he's worried and I explained that I'll be fine and that eating and drinking is getting easier everyday. He doesn't understand why I did it and doesn't understand the procedure or process. I try to keep a good spirit and elected to be amused instead irritated by these type of comments.

I can just imagine the look on my sergeons face if I would have gone in and asked for half a stomach.

When I first told my parents what I was thinking about doing they tried scaring me by telling me nightmare stories of people they met or that we are related to that's had stomache surgery. Either for weight loss (band for one relative), removal of portions of stomache and intestines due to medical issues. Some of whom almost died or have colopstapy bags or in one case a guy that had to eat every two hours. If he didn't he'd end up in the hospital. When they figured out I wasn't changing my mind they started listening to my ramblings about the process and the changes I need to make. I could always hear the disaproval in their voices. But like I explained I'm an adult and can make up my own mind. Doesn't do me any good to get mad at them. I know they are concerned. The best bet for me is being amused.

has anyone experience bad tasting breath
jatherley replied to Dee White's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was experiencing the nasty taste in my mouth for the first 4 weeks. I started sucking on sugar free mints and it helped some. It wasn't until after I got 2 liters of IV fluids that the taste subsided. I'm not positive the dehydration was why my mouth tasted so bad or if I felt so much better after the fluids that it didn't bother me so much. But I don't notice the taste anymore. -
I had my six week post op appointment today. She was pleased that I'm feeling tons better now that I'm fully hydrated. She said I've lost 10lbs in the past 4 weeks. Which she said is good but if had been able to eat more then I would have been able to loose more. So, she told me since I'm unable to take more than a few bites before I'm done. I need to eat several meals a day to get in all my calories. So now I have to figure out how to eat several "meals" of Protein a day. Any suggestions? I'm getting really tired of chicken and I have yet to find a Protein shake I like post op.

Well my doctor did not seem concerned about my bruise. She did indicate that the NUT would question the bruise. And included iron on my bloodwork.
-
Early last week I hit my leg with the door of my vehicle. Now I have this really nasty bruise on my leg. Its really dark purple or black. Its gotten darker instead of lighter all week. I have my 6 week appointment tomorrow so I'll ask about it then. But I was just wondering if this is a sign of a vitamin deficiency? early on I had problems with my vitamins. I've started taking them but maybe its to late now.
-
Well she wasn't concerned about my bruise. She said the NUT usually asks about bruises so she went ahead and included iron on my labwork paper.
-
Ah ok. I have my appointment in an hour so I'll find out for sure. Its very concerning since its such a larg bruise and it got so dark and doesn't want to fade. I'll let you guys know what she says. Thanks

I wasn't given a blood thinner RX for post op. I was given injections while I was in the hospital though. Think they are still working this far out?

I did it for my kids. I'm 39 years old. I have a 11yr old and 3yr old. I want to be here for them. Diebeties and high blood pressure run in my family. I was already borderline diebetic before surgery. I had gestational diebeties during both my pregnancies and had to give myself insulin shots. I could see the writing on the wall on that. Also, my kids have never been able to experience some of the adventures I think they should. I want to be able to show them an active life. Hiking, canoeing, bike riding in the park. I want to be able to say yes to there friends coming over and not no simply because I've been too tired (from lugging around all this weight) and lazy to straighten the house. I want to be so active its routine and not a chore. My kids are my everything. I'm doing it for them.

Craving Sugar..WTF!?
jatherley replied to Mighty Mo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With me its been salty stuff. I want to crunch down on some salty fries or chips so bad. I'm 5 weeks out. I did give in and had a little green olive earlier. It tasted really good which nothing tastes good anymore and it didn't make my new tummy hurt so that's good. -
