    Update 3 weeks post-op: arms

Wow, I can see a difference in your arms and really see it in your face! I hate my arms & cottage cheese inner thighs!! I'm 2wks post op today, and am going to take measurements so I can track it along with weekly photos, weight & BMI. I wish I'd thought of it prior to surgery.

    Excercise

I am 2wks post op today too!! I'm doing well with food & Water. I know I need to exercise more. It has always been my brick wall. How much should I be doing at this stage? To make it worse I'm not a big fan of walking. So far been using recumbent bike. I want to try swimming too. How many laps are enough. For Small Town, USA, I did get a good deal on EBay for a Gazelle. I need to bring it out of storage to use when I can't get to the gym. Maybe checking EBay or Craigslist would be an option for you.

    Less or more calories?

I am trying to use My Fitness Pal but it's settings are different than what I need as a post sleever. The protein & carbs specifically. Is there any way to modify it?

    Hunger pains?

I had my surgery that day too. I have hunger pains and for me, they feel the same as before the surgery. I do have discomfort and some pain which feels different. I've been hydrating like crazy & walking, but I'm still very hungry. My stomach makes all kinds of noise now, it is loud and happens almost all of the time. The gas can be painful. If you're not passing gas, your pain might be from that. When I'm sitting or laying down, I keep a pillow against my stomach. That helps a lot too.
  8. I just saw something & thought it might help answer some of your questions & concerns. Scroll in this website down to support groups. There is one entitled Pregnancy with Gastric Sleeve Surgery. If anyone would give you good feedback I bet I could be in there. ????

Any Marylanders with John Hopkins EHP?

I don't have it but live in MD & have CareFirst BCBS of MD. I went online & read the actual medical policy detailing procedures covered, requirements & guidelines. I meet the criteria but only as of March 25th of this year when it was revised to include sleeve for patients w/BMI<50. (Prior to that date CareFirst MD only approved if BMI was 50 or greater).
  10. I don't know the answer and am in a completely different boat (surgical menopause); however, I felt compelled to respond anyway. No fear or concern is crazy, there's a lot to consider. A healthier more fit you sooner than later is in my opinion best outcome for your whole family. After surgery you'll be focused on nutrition By the time the 3yrs speeds by you'll be an expert on what and what-not to eat so you will be in better control of how much pregnancy wt you may gain. Plus if you start that process healthier then that should help eliminate or minimize other poss health issues.
  11. 5'2" 196lbs here. BMI 36. My last visit with the dr is on 6/4/13. Then surgery date & insurance approval (hopefully). I'd like to to get down to approx 125. I'm so glad to find this thread. Fat is Fat, and I want a lot less of It!!!

    approval!

Congrats!! What a big relief I'm sure. I have my last appt on 6/4 when all will be submitted to my insurance for approval. Still holding my breath, crossing my fingers, & saying my prayers until I receive approval. When is your surgery date?
  13. Prayers are always welcome. Thank you. You are on your way. We will have to keep each other updated. I'll say my prayers for you as well.

    Am i wasting my time?

I have same BC/BS Maryland too (CareFirst MD). My BMI hovers between 36-37 and I have hypertension & high cholesterol. I'm in 6 month program at GBMC. Are you working with a program now? The one at GBMC has guided me through the process step by step. They provided a ton of info, nutritionist, etc. Had psych eval, etc. My 6th visit is on 6/4/13 when they schedule surgery and submit for insurance approval. I'll be holding my breath until I hear if it is approved since the policy was just revised on 3/25/13. . I don't think you are wasting your time, especially if the sleep study comes back positive for apnea.
  15. I'm full of emotions! I'm excited, anxious, nervous, etc. I just want to get insurance approval. I have CareFirst MD who only began approving this procedure for people under 50BMI in March of this year. I'm between 36-37 w/co-morbidities. I fit the revised criteria, but until I see it say "Approved" on paper, I won't be able to relax.
