Post op follow up with dr-questions
Ah0505 replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure what else to ask but please post the responses tomorrow... Thanks! -
I had a drain, they took care of it in the hospital by dressing the site with gauze pads. My only complaint was I kept having to ask the nurses to re-dress it due to leaking issues. Just kinda gross feeling it drip through the gauze. Drain was removed the day I left the hospital which was 4 days post op (I went to Mexico, by myself). I wouldn't say it hurt as it was coming out, just felt weird and there was some pulling. Ugh. So gross to think about now. I freaked out a bit when I realized I had a hole under the new dressing. Luckily, people on here saved me from having a nervous breakdown. The remaining hole begins to close up pretty quickly. Overall, I'd say having tape ripped off the skin hurts way more than drain removal.

Best low fat yogurt for 2nd week post op?
Ah0505 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not much of a yogurt person, the only kind I've had in the past year or two is Greek with honey. Since honey is probably not a good idea please tell me your favorites! Thank you!!! -

Best low fat yogurt for 2nd week post op?

I just sent a note out to my doc asking for clarification, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it needs to be plain! We shall see:-) Thanks for responding! -
Best low fat yogurt for 2nd week post op?
Ah0505 replied to Ah0505's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My list just states "low fat yogurt", it crossed my mind that plain could be the suggestion as my phase 3 list states "yogurt (no berries or anything with seeds)". But if non sugar sweeteners and diluted fruit juices are permitted during the liquid stage it seems a low fat lemon/vanilla/coffee type should be okay??? -

Just a couple of notes on lifting; for muscle to repair itself after heavy resistance training it will store Water (among other things) and you may after a few weeks see a slight gain due to the fact that while pound for pound muscle and fat obviously weigh the same, muscle takes up less volume in the body than fat (that's one reason why 2 people that weigh 150 lbs can look vastly different in size). Just my 2 cents, keep lifting!!! Give it a few months, your body will slowly change and then suddenly the weight will start falling off and dramatic results are often seen!!

Another rookie issue... I'm 5 days post op and doc prescribed Nexium to be dissolved in Water. It doesn't dissolve!!! It's a grainy mess that ends up all over the cup, takes forever to attempt to get it all down without leaving most of the medication in the glass. So, how do you take your antacid??? Thanks!

Prilosec/Nexium question...
Ah0505 replied to Ah0505's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, totally agree. The amount of water it takes to get it all down is a nightmare. Might try taking it whole tomorrow. Which form do you take? Capsule, tablet? -
I had my drain removed today and couldn't watch what was going on... Just took a shower and realize I have a hole where it was. Is it typical to not have stitches to close it up? If so, any secrets to getting it to heal an close up quickly? And keeping clean? Doc said just soap in the shower and all I can envision is soap getting inside and some gross things happening after that ... Totally creeped out. Thanks for any wisdom you can provide to keep my imagination from driving me nuts.

I'm scheduled for 5/27 and have the exact same fear - I'm a Water addict and always have a 60oz bottle with me. At least after surgery I will be contributing to the environmental health of the planet by not buying giant bottles of water by the truckload. I'm thinking smaller vessels of SmartWater might be a genius remedy, even just short-term during recovery. Thank you!
