  1. I have a friend who had gastric bypass surgery several years ago. When her hair grew back, it came in VERY curly! I hope I stay the same. I also have fine, more silky hair. Hope it doesn't change much!
  2. I'm still relatively new here myself, just 6 weeks out today, but there are many of you (several which have posted to this thread) that I truly respect their input. I often see certain names pop up and the responses have been nothing but helpful and truthful! Thank you to all of you who take the time out to try and help your fellow sleevers! I certainly appreciate every word!
  3. So I'm house sitting for a friend this week. Got here early Saturday and stopped at the grocery store on the way to pick up what I would need. Well, I forgot my food scale at home and had bought a rotisseire chicken. I divided the chicken in the little snack bags I brought into roughly 2oz servings. I'm not that far from my home so I stopped there this morning after the gym. I weighed that bags I had left and out of 4 bags, 2 were exactly 2oz, one was 1.8 and one was 1.6 (I knew this one was a little low. It was the end of the chicken pulling off what I could!) So I'm feeling pretty confident that when the time comes and I find myself going out to eat that I'll be pretty close if I estimate.
  4. Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations, you are an inspiration!

Just ate a bagel with butter

I am so sorry about what you are having to face on a daily basis. I cannot relate, but can empathize. You need to do what is right for you, but the only small suggestion I can make is that instead of butter, which as you know is nothing but fat, why not put a little Peanut Butter on there. At least you'll be getting some Protein in as well. And of course, not the whole bagel. Best of luck to you!
  6. Why did you have the revision? Was it eroding in your stomach like I've been reading on these boards lately? If that is the case you would probably be in pretty significant pain to have that removed, regardless on whether or not you did the sleeve at the same time. Most people who have had straight sleeve surgery don't seem to have as much pain as those of you that have gone through the revision. I know that doesn't make things any easier right now for you, but things should get a bit better each day. Wishing you a safe and speedy recovery!

    Vistion problems

I had the same problem. I was worried because years ago I had Lasix surgery and thought that the pressure from the anesthesia and everything messed me up! It gradually got better.

    This may be silly!

I think it's great to have that motivation! Many moons ago I was going on a cruise and had bought a dress for it that was a bit tight (I wasn't nearly as heavy as I was at the beginning of this journey)! I hung that on the outside of my closet so I could see it every morning. When it was cruise time, the dress fit perfectly. Good luck with your surgery and we'll see you on the other side!

    spaghetti

It's way too early for that. If you aren't yet, you should be on the soft solids. I was sleeved on the June 10th and that's where I am. I have my next NUT appt. on Aug. 1st and will hopefully transition to the next phase, but even once you are able to have pasta, it is recommended that you have wheat pasta so you aren't consuming white starches. Don't rush things. Take this time to incorporate more healthy eating strategies. The last thing we want to do is to fall back into unhealthy eating after putting our bodies through this surgery.
  12. I'm so glad you liked it! I just went and bought a new container yesterday too.
  13. I only do the protein shake in the morning. I am almost 6 weeks out and don't really like having chicken or turkey for breakfast. Can't do eggs because they make me nauseous so this is really my only breakfast option for now.
  14. One of my biggest protein boosts is the Nectar Fuzzy Navel drink I have in the morning. It's 23g of protein and only 100 calories.
  15. I know it's early, I'm only 4 weeks out, but am getting so bored with my food options. I've tried to do fish, but it gets cold waaaay before I am even close to be done with it. Everything I eat then has been cold - tuna salad, turkey, chicken, etc. So, to all you vets out there who have been at this for a while, do you get to a point where you can eat a little quicker and actually enjoy a warm meal?
  16. Do they taste 'eggy' though? Before surgery I could do an egg sandwich using egg whites, but not very often as eggs sometimes make me sick. I tried doing some egg salad post surgery and even an omelet and just can't without feeling nauseous afterwards. If there isn't a really noticeable egg taste, I think I might be able to handle this.
  17. Your title of this post really caught my eye! That is definitely one of my problem areas, those dreaded thighs! I had to go shopping last night because I'm starting a new job and have to wear khaki pants. Several that I tried on fit just fine in the waist, maybe even a tad loose, but so tight around the thighs. I am sooooo looking forward to the day when this isn't as much of a problem!

    SAD :(

Sounds like you are doing everything right! They only thing I see is that you began at a relatively low starting weight. Maybe that is why you aren't having the major weight drops that people with a higher start weight may have. I'm 4'11", started at 211 and am down 15lbs to 196. I also have an underactive thyroid, so I think that plays a part in my slower loss as well. Are you possibly on any medications that may inhibit the weight loss a little? It's hard sometimes, but I'm trying really hard not to compare myself so much to other peoples success. It is very discouraging. I'm trying to look at it from the point of view that I am losing at a bit slower, possibly healthier rate. It isn't easy all the time, but it is still early in the game and there is a lot of time left on the clock! WE can do it!!

    Excersice

I started walking 1.5 miles at about day 4 and a little over 3 miles a day by day 7 po. I'm 5 weeks out now and try to get to the gym between 4-6days a week and walk 3.7 miles in an hour on the treadmill. Need to start working in some weights soon.
  20. I'm still early on in the process so I don't have an answer for you, but in watching some YouTube videos from people who have had the surgery, there is one girl that goes by "sleevedfranklin" that experienced foot drop. I haven't watched in a while so I'm not sure what her current status is like, but she is very open and honest in her videos.

    SAD :(

Some people are just slow losers...me included. My first week I barely lost 2 lbs. Some people even report gaining. With the amount of food/liquid you are able to consume, you can't not lose weight. Remember that we didn't gain this overnight and it's not going to go away overnight. I get it the frustration though. You read about some who have lost like 18lbs their first week and it is a little maddening! But, you are on your own journey, not anyone else's. At 4 weeks out I was down 12lbs, compared to others, not a whole lot, but it was 12 lbs I would still have on had I not had the surgery. Just keep your chin up and follow the plan your nutritionist gave you. It will come off when it's ready. Hang in there and good luck!

    Please explain

I had no trouble with swallowing either. Like the others have said, right after I woke up from surgery and the rest of that night my mouth was pretty dry so I would get ice chips or suck on those glycerin swabs. Day one post op at the hospital I was sipping water and they gave me my thyroid medication in pill form. I was told by my team prior to surgery that you could still take pills but they had to be at most the size of a tic tac. I bought a pill splitter for my pain meds. I've been swallowing pills since day one post op with no problems. Everyone is different. I would say don't worry too much about it until you see how you feel after surgery. Good luck!
