Also, is your diet varied enough? I have found in the past on some of the MANY diets I have been on, that if I get into a rut of eating the same thing all the time, the weight loss isn't good, but if you mix it up a bit it will get going again.

I don't know if this site was free, but I just checked it out and it is transitioning to a "eatthismuch" website that will be $9 a month. You can basically do the same thing at my fitness pal, for free.

70lbs = 10lbs a month - not bad at all. If you didn't have this surgery, would you be down 70lbs? Losing slower is healthier. Are you getting enough protein and water? With only being able to take 3 bites, it sounds like you aren't really getting enough nutrition. Maybe speak to your doc or NUT.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine there are many people here who can relate to what you are going through. I can only offer a suggestion. Why don't you do something each year to honor the memory of your son? Maybe plant a tree in your yard or something that will get you to physically do something instead of mourning him in solitude? You can do it as a family as well so you don't feel so alone. Do something to honor his beautiful soul.

Beautiful!

Everyone loses at a different rate. I will be 4 weeks out Monday. The last time I weighed myself was Thursday and I am only down 11lbs since surgery so you are ahead of me. As long as you are doing all the right things the weight will come off, you just need to be patient. Please do not compare yourself to how others are doing. You are just going to drive yourself crazy and be disappointed all the time. You are doing great for YOUR journey.

Just for the sake of losing weight alone it's good to switch things up. It does sound like you need more Protein though and need to find some food sources you like if the protein shakes are making you ill. How about tuna or turkey with the cheese? I personally love feta cheese and have been adding some to my tuna. That gives me 21g of protein for just 2 oz of tuna and 1 oz of cheese. Good luck on your journey!

SQUIRREL! or How I Made It Into Guinness

So funny! I don't think I would have even opened the door! -
I have been drinking straight water since day one. I am somehow a little nervous about putting something in my water. Not sure why!

Maybe check with your NUT. When I had my 2 week follow up, I went straight to soft solids with the expectation that I would need to chew until the food was basically a liquid consistency. I asked the NUT about puree and her response was that they use to do a puree stage, but found that most patients wouldn't follow it that closely and they have not had any negative results. So now they just go straight to the soft solids. I would think it would be fine because, as you said, it is a soft, spreadable cheese. Hope it helps! -
I had a 20lb lifting limit and at my 2 week follow up, my doctor said everything should be healed enough that I shouldn't have to worry about the restrictions. Wait until your follow up and hopefully you will be given the green light after that.

one week out and have itchy rash in stomach
SueJH replied to Fulvio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. Was told it was a contact dermatitis from the adhesives and things they used during surgery. Took oral benadryl and it did help. -
Happy1957 - I have a friend who had bypass surgery, many years ago now, but when her hair grew back, it was very curly as well. She would go for keratin treatments and get it straightened. For everyone - I was reading the paper this morning and came across an add entitled "Worried About Hair Loss?" It talks about this product, HairSil Accelerator. Says regular use may help fight hair loss and promote growth. It's available at Walgreens, Shaw's supermarket, Ralph's, Walmart, Meijers, Wise, Rite Aid, Jewel Osco, Kroger and Fred Meyer. I'm only 4 weeks out as of this coming Monday, but I think I might get it and see if at the very least I can help minimize the inevitable!

Anyone in the Boston/North area?
SueJH replied to GoochMonster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi guys, I'm from Worcester and just had the surgery June 10th. So far so good! -
Looks good! Could you post the info on the ricotta bake? Thanks!

First I have to say, you DID NOT "CAUSE" her to leave you! She did that for her own selfish/cowardly reasons. Most people would feel happy that their mate was taking steps to get healthy to be around longer. It is her own insecurities that caused this, nothing that you did. I honestly think you should go for counseling. We can all offer you a word of encouragement here, but I think you need a professional to help you see that you have nothing to feel guilty about. I wish you nothing but the best and you deserve nothing less. Keep moving forward. You are doing this for you, not for anyone else.

I'm only 3 weeks out and can't eat every 2 hours. I only have 2 oz of whatever (chicken, tuna, etc) when I do eat and it takes about 45 minutes to eat that! I've been trying to do a protein type snack once a day, but it's hard.

Soft foods one week post op?
SueJH replied to kelley5989's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to soft foods after 2 weeks, but day 2 post op was on full liquids, which includes protein shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese and cream soups (campbell's 98% fat free stuff). Everyone seems to get different advice from their surgical team. But going to soft food (like chicken and tuna) after 1 week seems a little soon. -
Dont know what to do!
SueJH replied to NeverBeTheSameAgain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started soft foods last Tuesday. I still have the Nectar Fuzzy Navel protein drink every morning. Reminds me of orange juice and it has 23g of protein. I also have protein "shots" by Body Fortress. They are 2.9 oz each and have 26g of protein. I have only needed to use 1 so far on a day that foods weren't going down that easily. Good luck! -
I was on birth control before my surgery. While in the hospital one of the people on the surgical team - don't know if she was a doctor or NP - took me off my pill. Mostly because I'm in my 40's and it is getting time to stop. I knew it was going to happen eventually. The only thing I'm worried about it that the whole reason I went on the pill initially as a teen was that I had the most horrific periods. Would be doubled over in pain and vomit it hurt so much. Now I'll have to wait and see how it goes. I should be getting it by now, but I just read a post that some people seem to be irregular after surgery and some even miss a month.

At my 2 week follow up with my NUT I transitioned to soft foods. I asked about having to puree them and she said that they used to do that first, but found that many patients didn't do it and just chewed to a liquid consistency and didn't have any problems so they just go straight to soft foods now.

Frankensleeve - I love it! -
Are you taking too big of a bite? I really didn't have any discomfort swallowing unless I: A) took too big of a bite, or took a second bite too soon after the first. Hope it feels better soon and you are able to get food down.
