Curios question........What is your average weight loss each week?
mparkersmith replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost about 7 lbs the first week out, then only a total of 3 lbs. over the next 12 or so days. But magically, something kicked in at week 4, and I lost about another 6 lbs. Today I am exactly 5 weeks out, and a total of 20 lbs down. Less than I thought, but I will take it! Combined w my pre-op efforts, I'm down about 42 lbs. total. Mind you, those pre-op 22 lbs took about 3 MONTHS to take off. So, I am thankful for my 20 lbs, and I will just be patient. "Slow" loss is actually not that slow for me! -
Liver reduction diet- sodium through the roof :(
mparkersmith replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had this exact concern pre-sleeve. I was verrrry worried that I was hitting 3-4K grams of sodium on some days. I called my nutritionist to help me make adjustments, and that was really helpful. Luckily, my pre-op diet only lasted 2 weeks. Get some professional advice to help you review your food choices, and best of luck! -

Hello! I am dying to get back in the pool, and was curious how long of a wait everyone's surgeon required before allowing it. I was told 5-6 weeks. Seems a bit long. Curious, how long did you have to wait?

Congratulations on your success!!! That is a big deal!

Viki30, it's only been 3 weeks out for me. Since I just started the soft foods stage, I didn't purée the salmon, just ate tiny bites and chewed the heck out of it. It was poached, so it was super soft and moist. My cauliflower/potatoes were puréed, though.

How long before you were cleared for swimming?
mparkersmith replied to mparkersmith's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Yeah, you are definitely right! I plan to follow his instructions, but I was curious. A few more weeks won't kill me, although the Texas heat might! -
I just posted about this on another thread, because today was my first day of soft foods, and I definitely felt full! Liquids and puréed foods never gave me this full feeling. I ate about 1 oz. of poached salmon, and a little under 1/4 cup mashed cauliflower/potatoes. Full, full, full! The protein made all the difference, because I'd had mashed potatoes a couple of times during my puréed week. Hang in there!

You look great!!! Congratulations!

My surgeon didn't seem to think alcohol was a big deal after about a month, but my NUT's paperwork said to wait at least a year or year 1/2! Ummm... I'm gonna shoot for the holiday season later this year and see what happens!

5 days post op-afraid it didnt work! Feeling TOO normal.
mparkersmith replied to megansmommy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 20 days out today, and was cleared for soft foods today. I finally worked up the nerve to try some for dinner, and what a difference! I too felt that I was able to get in quite a lot of protein shakes, full liquids, etc. So tonight I tried a little less than 1/4 cup mashed cauliflower/potatoes (no skins), and 2 ounces of poached salmon. Heaven!! But, about 20 minutes in, I knew there was noooo way I was going to finish that salmon! I did manage to finish 1 ounce, and the 1/4 cup, but my sleeve is feeling nice and full. Didn't feel this way during full liquids phase, and I am so relieved! It looks like this might just work after all! Ha! :) I was gettin' a little worried there... -
Thanks for all the good suggestions. I'm on day 2 of pureed foods, and I have to say I am feeling rather uninspired. So far I've had hummus with a bit of mashed avocado, cottage cheese, pureed carrots, and a bit of almond butter, which did not sit too well. Looking forward to trying mashed potatoes tomorrow!

That pretty much says it all!

Oh, and good luck Akmys11 and HoneysuckleFlwr!

I'm getting sleeved tomorrow, too! All clear liquids today for me, too. Checking in at 11:00 am, procedure at 1:00. Yesterday was a little more difficult for me emotionally, but today I'm ready to roll. Just gonna keep busy cleaning out my closet and my bathroom cosmetic drawers! In fact, I may just go on a total cleaning spree!

Unexplained bruising 5 months out
mparkersmith replied to MommyofFive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bruise easily because I take aspirin daily as well as the blood thinner Plavix. Blood work should give you answers. -
Wow! Good for you! I am also hoping to lose the BP meds in the very near future! Congrats on your weight loss success, too!

Any sleeveers in the Auatin Texas Area? Mine is June 26th!
mparkersmith replied to memk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Xcillax, I'm going through Southwest Bariatric Surgeons as well, with Dr. Fass. Tomorrow is my clear liquids only day, and the surgery on Monday. Are you planning on going to the support groups? I am going to the June 22nd meeting for sure. Hope to run into either of you there! -

I am in Austin, too. Getting sleeved on Monday at St. David's. Can't believe it's already here. Seemed so far away, and yet time moved so incredibly fast!
