Quinn, I was at the BIDMC info session last night too. The doctor from the army presented, I can't remember his name. It was my second info session, I'm just waiting for the nurse to call me. It will probably be next week. I'm travelling for business next Mon-Thur, so I hope I can take the call if they call when I'm in a meeting! I'll just excuse myself and take the call. Are you by any chance the girl that I gave the parking receipt too? Well - I'm excited that I got the two information sessions under my belt. When do you get weighed??? I am hesitant to start any type of "diet" until someone at BIDMC weighs me....My BMI is right around 40-41 and if it should fall under 40 my insurance company won't pay for the surgery....(SAD I KNOW). Thanks! Margie
  2. Kim, Yes - we have very similar stats! I hope we are both v. lucky and lose well! Keep in touch, would love to hear from you. Margie
  3. Hello, I have been reading the posts on these boards with interest and have learned a lot of good/useful information. I have already met with a dietician at the BIDMC (Beth Israel) in Boston and submitted my application. I am waiting for one of the bariatric nurses to call me, and then they will get together as a group and decide if I am a good candidate. I contacted my health insurance carrier and I meet their criteria, so they should pay for the surgery (less my deductible of course! :biggrin1: ) I am hoping to have the surgery in October. It would be an ideal time for me to do it. I'm 290 pounds, 5'10", and looking forward to getting this weight off so I can..... 1) Sit in an airplane seat and be comfortable 2) Not always be so darn hot! (temperature wise! ) 3) Be able to run and play and climb at the park with my neices and nephew and not be so darn out of breath. 4) Be able to buy clothes off the rack and FEEL comfortable in them 5) Say goodbye to "relaxed" fit anything 6) Buy shoes! I have a size 11wide foot...I read that some people go down shoe sizes when they lose weight...this is great! 7) Go on rides at an amusement park and not worry the bar will cut off my circulation! 8) Ride a bike 9) Buy a cute bathing suit in a COLOR other than black or dark blue 10) Get a "short" haircut and not worry my face is "too fat" And a million other things...but basically I want to FEEL better, not always be hot or sweating when others aren't, not get out of breath and feel like I am GOING TO DIE because I climbed up some stairs. Thanks to everyone on the boards who have been so open & honest about the procedure. I chose lap-band because it meant a less invasive surgery and a quicker recovery time. Margie :smellie:

Chrispy, Thanks for the advice. I do plan on taking two weeks off after the surgery. I"m not sure which dietician I met with, she had shoulder length brown/black hair and was very nice. I'm looking forward to talking to the nurse and meeting with the doctor. Margie

Hello, I am new to this forum. I stumbled upon it accidentally doing research for lap-band surgery. I have been to the BIDMC once and met with a nutritionist. I forwarded in my application. I'm waiting for the nurse to call me to see if I qualify. I think I will. My BMI is 40.3 and I have already checked with my insurance company. They will cover the surgery (I meet all of their criteria too). I am originally from MA but live in southern NH (can't afford MA!) I work in MA. I am excited about this journey. I am 5'10" and I weigh 282 pounds. My goal is to get under 200. Unfortunately, I am doing a lot of travelling for work until 8/1. Ideally I'd like to have the surgery in October. I have learned a lot from reading this post, especially what a PB was :biggrin1:. I hope to learn more. Thanks! Marjorie
