    Time saver!

They look interesting How do they taste?
  2. Hello to all the 8/17 sleevers (and 8/18 I can't believe a month has gone by either! Last year at this time I was unhappy with my weight and wondering what I would be able to do to get to a weight I would be happy with. I was wearing a size 22W, and just miserable. I could never have imagined that in March I would call the bariatric center and start this process and be ONE MONTH out at this time! I'm halfway to my goal...and I'm so thankful. Everyone seems be doing so well! Keep it up!

    VIP Member Check In

Hello everyone, I decided to upgrade to VIP. I figure I'll be here for a good while, may as well join in the fun. I'm single, 44, live near Boston and work in the city. I am Auntie to three great kiddos and Godmother to them all. I had my surgery on 8/17 and as of today I am halfway (well I'm .2 lbs off so I'm rounding up!) to my weight loss goal. I am looking forward to ziplining next Spring, going on a ropes course, and doing all sorts of outdoor stuff that I wouldn't (and couldn't) do at 295lbs!

    Obsessed with me.

Hi, Does your mom have a weight problem? Could she be jealous? Also who cares if you EX thinks you talk to much about your weight loss, he's your EX for a reason right?! I agree with Avafern. I think there is all stuff we are excited about and that some of our family and friends may not be. That doesn't mean they shouldn't support you And yeah you SHOULD be excited....9 months out and looking good. If you care about what your Mom and Ex think, just don't talk to them about it as much. Get your support from your friends.

If I know weight loss is not covered at all

If you know for certain that bariatric surgery isn't covered by your company's health insurance policy you can write to HR and ask them to get it covered at the next renewal. There was a letter I saw on these boards that someone created just for that purpose. I'm pretty sure he said it could be copied and pasted. You might want to search for it. Your other option is self-pay. There are a lot of doctors who do this surgery and the rates vary in different parts of the country. There is always the Mexico option. Again - there are a lot of people on these boards who have self-paid and you could search for that info on these boards. Can you switch health insurance next year? Is there a policy you can get at work that covers WLS? The only other option is finding a new job with insurance that you know covers it. Best of luck.

    Help

Search "3 week stall"...it's not you. Almost everyone hits a stall on week 3. Don't let it get you down. YOU WILL START LOSING AGAIN.
  7. Whitney1968 - I was readmitted for the nausea and dry heaving because my surgeon was concerned I might pop a staple and get a leak. The dry heaving just would NOT STOP. I ended up in the hospital again for another 3 night/4 day stay. It took two full days to get the nausea under control and for me to be able to eat anything. It took another day for the dry heaving to stop. I'm sorry you had a bowel obstruction, that sounds awful . I hope you are on the mend now! I am on real food now. My taste buds changed after surgery and the Protein shakes were so stinking sweet...they were hard to drink. They are a little easier now, but still sweet. I think once you get on real food you will be amazed at how little it takes to make you feel full. Good luck!
  8. Thanks Kate ExcitedNana - yes I am able to get in all my Protein - NOW. The first few weeks were rough. I have to supplement with a Protein shake though, or else I wouldn't be able to do it. I am doing ok with Water but still having a rough go at getting all my Vitamins and supplements in. I'm ok with the two chewable Multivitamins, but remembering the other 3 doses of Calcium and making sure I schedule them out 2 hours after the Multivitamin is a real drag. So far I haven't made it one day getting in the two multivitamins and 3 calcium. So far the best I've done is the 2 multivitamin and 2 calcium. I'm hoping to do better this week. I think once I'm able to SWALLOW the pills, it will be easier. The chewable vitamins and calcium are just downright sweet and they are tough to get down.

    Pre-Op diary?

Nurse Lenora I think your pre-op diary is a great idea. I didn't start a pre-op diary, but I have many reminders of past weights, pictures, etc. for me to look at on my journey. I don't ever want to get back to 295lbs again and I while I don't want to dwell on the bad, it's good to have a reminder of how hard it was being that weight. Good luck on your journey!

    Peanut butter

I love Peanut Butter. ❤️???????????????? I have to ration it when I eat it because it can be a trigger food for me. I am only buying the natural peanut butter now and I measure out exactly 2 tbsp. I am 4 weeks out from surgery and I can have it....but I am trying to stay away as it can be problematic!

    Craving

I had my surgery 8/17. For me I'm not craving soda because I gave it up a long time ago. I am definitely having "head" hunger and being around food that is tempting is tough, especially because I have now had my period twice since the surgery. I haven't been perfect. I did have about 6 tortilla chips yesterday and on another day I did eat a couple of pretzels and a small piece of blueberry bread. Dealing with "head" hunger is hard. Right now I am dog sitting at a friends house and they have EVERYTHING under the sun here to be tempted with. I'm not even going to list the food because it would just make it worse. I did pretty good, and only managed to be tempted by the tortilla chips. I put them in the cabinet so they wouldn't be staring me in the face. I have a problem with food. It's how I got up to 295lbs. I'm trying my best to do better and I'm thinking at this point that I really do need to go back and see the psychiatrist I initially met with to try to resolve some stuff. I don't want things to get out of hand and I DO NOT want to sabotage my weight loss. Best of luck.
  13. Elode - CONGRATULATIONS! I too have traumatic experiences of being "measured" by the tiny Italian women who made my Catholic school uniforms. The only saving grace was that I was always the tallest in my class and was measured LAST. I hope I am as successful as you with losing 100lbs in 10 months. If it takes longer that's fine too. I've followed some of your posts and they are very enlightening to me on my journey. Thank you.

Star Jones weight gain (80 lbs)

She's not the only one. Carnie Wilson also had weight regain. It's just not easy to maintain and we will have to be diligent. It's easy to let old habits sneak back in, and to have the weight slowly creep up on you. I just had surgery and am in the weight loss phase, but I know once I get to goal that maintenance will be just as hard as this.

    Not eating enough

I know it's hard, but you have to try to get in your Protein. It's very important! I know it's weird isn't it actually getting FULL?! I think I've been hungry once since the surgery and I'm not even sure I was hungry, I think I was thirsty. I'm doing ok with food and protein it's the darn Vitamins and Calcium. Trying to remember to take them all is mind boggling, but I am trying. So far I've gotten both multi-vitamins and one calcium, but I'm supposed to get in 3 calcium. It's A LOT to remember AND in addition to the Water and not eating/drinking before and after meals. SHEESH! Good luck!

    Buying the wrong size?

It's tough. I'm not sure but I can relate. I was wearing a pair of size 22W pants and as I walked across the yard (thank goodness I was in the back of the house!) they fell down to my ankles. My 20W's are loose, and I could probably wear an 18 or 18W but for some reason I still put the 20's on. I think the brain takes a while to catch up. Sometimes the only way I can tell I've lost weight is in a picture or by trying something on. If you figure out the answer, let me know

    People get into my head

Caprice, Don't let the nurses random UNKIND words get to you. You will be healthier, you will be happier AND IF you should have some excess skin - you will deal with it You are 27....I'm 44....You have youth on your side skin wise, so that's a plus! If a little saggy skin will mean I can live longer and be happier then so be it. If I need a skin surgery or two later....then maybe I'll have it done, maybe not. Careless comments can derail anyone. Don't let them! GOOD LUCK!

    Obsession

ylluz I agree with the other posters there is no way you could've gained 4lbs. I didn't weigh at all until my first post-op and now I'm only going to weigh 1x a week or else I WILL DRIVE MYSELF CRAZY! It's just not worth the aggravation to me. I wish you well on your journey fellow 8/17 sleever ????

    Question for the ladies

The rapid weight loss causes havoc on your cycle. I got my period early too and I have read where some women have it for much longer or even heavier than usual. It can take a few months to get back on track. If it's really bad you might want to call your OBGYN.
  21. I was sleeved on 8/17 and had my first post-op today. Everything is going well and I have lost 18lbs since my surgery date. I'm thrilled with the loss. I purposely didn't weigh myself until I went to see the doctor today. I will probably weigh once a week from now on. I don't want the scale to be my only measurement of success. I got the go ahead for exercise today and I'm back walking. So thrilled to be advancing the diet a little and adding some new foods. Hope everyone else is doing well. Since 4/1 with the pre-op I am down 52 pounds! ???????????? this is how I feel today!
  22. Fantastic job you should be proud

    Weight stall

Hi. Before having the surgery on 8/17 I was losing weight on pre-op diet and I got to a weight where I plateaued. I was stuck on the same weight for about 5 weeks. My nutritionist asked me if I had been that weight before for a period of time and I had. He called it a "set point" weight... A weight our bodies had been comfortable at. I was able to break through the plateau by kicking up the exercise. I had been walking, so I mixed it up with kickboxing. Getting my heart rate up really helped with moving the scale. Don't be discouraged. Try some different things. Do yourself a favor and stop the emotional eating though. I can't do kickboxing now And probably won't be able to for another 4 weeks but I'm looking forward to getting back to it.

    Buyer's Remorse?

Hi, I was sleeved on 8/17. I am not regretting it but it, but it hasn't been an easy journey for me so far. I was readmitted to the hospital the day after being discharged. I was dry heaving and had severe nausea. It took a couple of days to get everything under control and there were some moments when I felt so sick that I prayed it wouldn't be like his forever. I was in the hospital an additional three nights and I am feeling so much better. I am having a hard time drinking protein shakes as my taste buds have definitely changed and I didn't think it was possible! It's still relatively new and I am trying my best to do the best job I can with this new tool. Give it some time. Best of luck to you on your journey.
  25. I got a call from the surgical coordinator THIS MORNING who said I do not have to wait to schedule anymore AND she is going to try to schedule the pre-op stuff in the same day as my final NUT appt! I am so HAPPY!!!!! I went from waiting to having a surgery date in 19 days! Sooooooo much to do.
