Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
Aubreanna replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. My 5 year old asking me why I'm not skinny 2. Ankle swelling 3. Always out of breath 4. NEVER in pictures, and if I'm in the background of one I delete the evidence 5. MIL calling me fat 6. Being judged by my lunch like I should be eating lettuce only 7. Dreaming of all the clothes I could wear if I was thin, but having to shop in a tiny section with no selection instead of a whole store. I could go on forever! I've come so far. This is a great thread. How encouraging. -

Just putting it out there, so 'dirty' little secrets may see the light of day!

May have stolen some candy from my daughters Halloween loot. I ate starbursts and a mini Hershey's bar. I drink a lot of wine. -
Food ideas--- Nutritionist giving me contradicting information – open to any ideas
Aubreanna replied to natalie_christin's topic in Food and Nutrition
My nutritionist suggests 70-90 grams of protein. I don't count carbs but have to aim for my protein goal, which is really hard to do, so it leaves out eating carbs because I don't have room. A rule of thumb is protein first, veggie or fruits next, carbs last (which is really not at all since I am full after protein most of the time). My meals today- protein shake for breakfast, Greek yogurt snack, lunch - two slices of lunchmeat and one spice of cheese rolled up, dinner I had teriyaki chicken and two bites of broccoli, late snack of one tangerine. HW- 250, CW-183. Sleeved 4/16/2013. Hope this helps. -
Definitely eating too fast is my challenge. I also need to exercise more. I'm only working out 2x per week.

Don't stress. You will be fine! We are here to help you if you need it. Best of luck!

I work for Kaiser- SoCal and I was sleeved April 16,2013. There are several factors that all work together that make you eligible for surgery. 1st is PCP referral to options. Sometimes you have to meet with an MD or NP just establish a base line and goal. Then you have your options class which are all the same, just depends on how the time is spread out. Some do two classes in one meeting-12 weeks instead of 24. After options and you have to do several series of lab work, food logs, and don't miss any classes. After that you have your med clearance appt (more labs, EKG, etc), meet with the surgeon where they will decide what the best procedure is, then surgery. Sometimes surgery isn't the best option, so all the questions and process is to ensure your safety, health, and if it is right for you. Ultimately, this is a huge investment and KP wants to make sure you are a success story. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Hair loss is common month 3-6. It will stop and it will grow back. It felt like my hair fell out in chunks, shedding everywhere. I am 5 months post op and it has slowed down. Not much hair loss anymore. My NUT told me to make sure I get 70g of protein and take my vitamins.
-
It honestly varies. I was cleared for coffee 6 weeks post op and I drink it with no problems. I drink a tall nonfat cafe misto from Starbucks everyday. Some NUTs will tell you no coffee at all because it can irritate your stomach. Mine said it was fine

Feel like I can eat too much...
Aubreanna replied to sherrypep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it depends what I am eating. Certain foods like beans fill me up with literally three bites, but I can eat a bowl of watermelon. I guess it depends on the density of the food -
Mine were left open, no band aides. No problems at all. 4 months post op and my incision scars are disappearing. Hope this helps.

why do we get acid reflux post op
Aubreanna replied to huligoo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know why, but mine is much better now. Two and a half months post op and I take Prilosec maybe once a week. Right after surgery I took it twice a day. -
I'm also a huge coffee drinker!! I went from drinking a grande coffee with raw sugar and 2% milk to a short coffee with half a Splenda and 2%milk. I still get my fix with very little calories. I'm glad I'm not alone.

So I ran into a friend I have not seen in about a year and she told me she didn't recognize me because I was so tiny. I have never been called tiny!!!! I'm only 2 months post op and have lost 40 lbs, so I still have a long way to go, but this just made my day. The scale means nothing. It's about how you look and feel. Here's to many more victories!

Does surgery = Money savings?
Aubreanna replied to megancd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Huge difference for my budget! I eat less than my 5 year old daughter. For lunch I literally eat one slice of lunch meat and one slice of cheese and sometimes don't finish it. Plus, no soda, snack food, and I can't tolerate bread, so those items I don't buy or if I do, they last longer in my house. -
I thought I was the only crazy one!!!!! I did this constantly!! I am now 2 months post op and still cooking, but not these crazy, intricate, delish meals anymore. (Poor hubby). I never took one bite. I definitely "lived" through my family watching them eat my homemade meals. Part of it was being off of work recovering too. I had more free time to think and plan out meals instead of quickly throwing something together. But back to work I must go, so more simple meals now;)

Same thing is happened to me. Formerly 42DD, down 40 lbs and I'm 38C. On the positive, hubby likes the smaller boobs.

May 29th surgery--now almost 5 days out
Aubreanna replied to hdgoodman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm scared of losing my hair too. I'm 8 weeks post op and so far so good, but I was told hair loss happens from 3-6 months. Crossing fingers I don't. -
Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I'm 5'1". 6 weeks post op down 35 lbs!! -
I used one to help me lose my pre-op weight. I love it!! Try buying it from kohls or bed bath and beyond and using the 20% off coupon. My favorite combination is kale, carrots, apple, and strawberries. Yumm.

This thread is my life! My daughter says the same thing! She is 5. I only got hurt when she said that she wants one of my friends to be her mom because she is skinny. Now that I'm losing she gets excited for me when I lose and she plays "the biggest loser" with me and I'm the contestant. Kids definitely are brutally honest.

My cousin wants to have the sleeve like I did but her mentality is all wrong. She is only like 40-50 lbs overweight and she thinks once (and if) she is approved, that she will have the surgery within a week. She doesn't understand all you have to do to prepare mentally and research it. I think this would make someone regret it if they did not fully educate themselves on what to expect and see it as a quick fix. Clearly, it is not easy to lose weight even with surgery. I'm 5 weeks post op with absolutely no regrets!! I made the right choice.

Loosing the weight and I don't like my shape
Aubreanna replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are being too hard on yourself. I'm sure you are the only one who thinks you don't look good in the mirror. Instead, try focusing on your accomplishments and how you you chose to be a healthier person. I'm sure you look great and no one will notice any bumps or wrinkles on your new body. You are fabulous as you are. Big or small.
