The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve!

Got it and I am finding it very useful. Being pre-op, I tend to continually seek out new information on living with the sleeve. This book has allowed me to focus on learning the information I need and spend less time trying to Google the right combination of words that may or may not lead me to accurate answers. There's also all that information I never knew to seek out. Highly recommend!

i am 8 week out post op

You might want to introduce new veggies a little spread out just in case your sleeve disagrees with a particular kind. Then you know what to wait longer before trying again.

    Pizza cheat!

I just happen to have a friend post one on FB today, it's a cream cheese base, I have not tried it so can not speak for it but it sounds really good. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151368039081266&set=a.435084336265.238777.675941265&type=1&theater
  5. I am pre-op and started eating healthier about 10 weeks ago. (Surgery to be scheduled for this summer) I will try a few shakes pre liquid diet but I am happy right now with how I am doing the old school way. I still treat myself but I do it differently so it's not in the same category as old 'treats'. For example I will order an individual mediteranian pizza but tell them I want it on multigrain with 1/8th of the usual amt of cheese. Then I will take cpl days to eat it. I will really miss my carbs, but having taken a lot of the constant hunger away should make it at least a little easier during liquidfest. Plus if I can lower my complication odds even just a little it's worth it. Just my two cents...

I'm sorry but I had to giggle at your topic... Nothing wrong with a healthy smack once in a while when the mood is right

Well... The Truth Finally Came Out!

Hey :-) I feel the best thing you can do to help him is to keep talking. Make sure you tell him all the reasons that you tell us, if you haven't already. If food has been center stage in a lot of the things you do together, maybe it's partially a commonality fear. Is it possible that any of his concerns stem from watching your frustration from the band and he is afraid you'll be let down by yet another tool? I ask this because my mom was very much against this surgery until I got her to unload all her reasons so we could talk about them. I have no doubts that your hubby loves you and maybe just needs a reminder that it's sooo important for you to love yourself enough to live your best life so you will be around to puree said corn after he no longer has the teeth to chew it. :-)
  8. The important thing now is that you recognize that you made a mistake and you are not going to make another one pre-op. Congrats on the loss that's awesome. Only your doctor can tell you if it jeopardized your surgery, but being the perfect patient now will better your chances.
  9. I inquired about this same thing it was said that this question was like a lean person asking why we can't just stop eating. It's not even in the same ballpark. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the dugout.
  10. This may not work for everyone pre-op, but personally I find chewing gum is really helpful when I feel like snacking. Stride lasts a long time and juicy fruit has some decent dessert flavours for the sweet tooth. I never thought it would be an effective option but I have been proven wrong as it really does help. I know post-op you shouldn't but by then you won't need to... Good luck and just remember living a better life is much more filling than anything you could put in your mouth. :-)
  11. Weighing in naked and a.m as opposed to dressed and pm could sway the scale as much as 5lbs depending on what you're wearing and how soon weigh is post supper. Sorry being pre-op I can't speak to the scar tissue aspect.

    Edmonton Alberta- Sleevers

If you live not too far from Medicine Hat getting a referral to their bariatric center is an option. The surgery is covered because it's a referral and being new their wait list is shorter than most by a lot. It took six months for the call, but once in the door average wait seems to be about 6 months if you follow the program. Wish I could help with the plastics... I know there is now one in the Crowsnest Pass but I have no idea of his credentials.....
  16. I admit I don't get why people choose not to follow doc's orders on the pre-op diet. I know I'm very new to this forum and this will likely get me burned at the stake. This isn't about me judging others, but instead trying to understand their reasoning. I am 39 and have likely been under the knife more than most people my age and I have never considered going against my doctors pre-op orders. I am certainly not perfect, but considering the importance of optimizing your health prior to incision time, I just don't understand why you would jeopardize your surgery and your complication odds after you've obviously made the empowering choice to change your lifestyle. Yes I see the irony considering doctors tell you to live healthier day to day and I find myself here, but point blank orders pre-op I don't mess around with. (Braces herself)

    I just don't get it...

Tigerbelle I don't believe in magic, I believe in effort. I have been eating like crap for almost 15yrs. I was diagnosed with Diabetes on March 12th, so I get how hard it is to change old habits. That doesn't change the fact that I haven't had any crap since that day. Hard as hades yes, but the alternative is not an option. It takes tremendous strength to decide to have WLS. I commend that choice, I just don't understand why those same people don't recognize that strength in themselves sooner than later.

    I just don't get it...

Sorry I don't know how to do the quote thing yet. I don't agree with the lean person analogy and find it an unfair comparison. It isn't the same thing. Falling off the wagon is understandable and being able to admit it and move on is admirable. But there are times when falling off the wagon should simply not be an option. Why do people place more importance on post op orders than pre-op ones? I don't imagine people would try to justify eating things they shouldn't within the early weeks post-op. I can speak from experience and I am just trying to understand the logic in the moment that determines the decision to stray.

    Cereal?

I know for myself, being diabetic, my sugars are the most wonky in the morning. Plain cheerios r the cereal i rely on now pre-sleeve to keep them in check, only 1 gm sugar. Then I add a couple Tbsp. bran buds for fibre.
  20. I can't speak to being gallbladderless post sleeve, but I can tell you that gallstones are much more painful than having it out. :-) It is a laproscopic procedure and recovery is pretty minimal compared to other things. Once it is gone if you do eat less than innocently your body might rebel a lil, which can be a good thing to keep you in check. Just remember when you are sick to keep drinking fluids because bile in its pure form, really unpleasant. Sorry if it's TMI, just cpl things I wish I had known b4 mine. Still worth having done because they are once in a while annoyances compared to mind numbingly painful consistent attacks.

Only 7 wks post op & pregnant.

Don't ever underestimate the strength of babies in utero, they are resilient little buggers. Like you, my son was a surprise. We have 9 and 7 yr old girls. During my pregnancy I was dx and treated for kidney cancer. He flew through surgery, no pun intended. No ill effects from the anesthetics or morphine. You are doing so many things right and being aware of potential issues puts you ahead of the game in ensuring you go the extra mile. Congratulations! My son is a healthy 15 months now and can't imagine having stopped at 2. :-)
  22. I was on an airplane and the lady beside me looked at me rather annoyed. 'Should you be flying this close to your due date?' I smiled and replied, 'It's a short flight, I'll try not to give birth on your lap, but I can't make any promises.' She did not talk to me the rest of the flight. ( I was about 8 weeks at the time but, being heavy, was wayyy too early to be showing.) Even being recently pregnant at the time, it still hurt.
