Hey Bud, Don't get discouraged! You are less than two weeks post-op. I lost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet and gained back every ounce thanks to the intravenous fluids I had in the hospital. My husband said my tummy was the biggest he had ever seen it in the first days following surgery. You have had your entire abdomen traumatized, and your body is rushing resources to it to aid in healing. It no different from the swelling you have with a sprained ankle or busted lip. I don't know if you would do better with a scale or not. I personally know that I need one. I have done very well, but I don't lose every week, much less every day--even at the first. This is not a 50 yard dash, it is a marathon. And unless you are planning a vacation to Maui in a couple of weeks, there are no deadlines or "use by" dates for losing after surgery. You will get to eat real food before you know it. I remember being hungry while on the liquid stage and my Protein shakes were nauseating. I'm so glad to have that behind me. But I have been amazed that hunger is not really an issue for me. But, the caveat is that I didn't get to 280 lbs by eating because I was hungry. So even the lessening and hunger, while a great gift, does not solve all of my eating problems. Concentrate now on healing, resting, moving, drinking, and you will lose! But even better than the scale moving, you will begin to feel so much better. If you are like me, it takes a while for your clothes to show the loss because they were pretty tight to begin with. And those lumps and bumps didn't come on us overnight and they won't disappear overnight. I will pray for you and wish you well! You have taken the first big step in a long and wonderful journey, as have I.

Hi starry night, I am seven months out too. My surgery date was 6/5/13, I did great until the Holidays and am really struggling to get back on track. I haven't lost since Thanksgiving (In fact, gained a couple of pounds). Unfortunately, I have discovered that I can eat a lot of some foods. Thankfully, I don't feel hungry anymore, I just love food. Nighttime after everyone has gone to bed is the absolute worst. I would love someone to be accountable to and share with. Are you interested?

To tell or not to tell?
cooterbrown replied to carson's mom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't tell anyone but my husband. It's not their business. I didn't tell my grown skinny kids because I have heard their negative comments regarding friends that had weight loss surgery. I had another procedure at the time of my sleeve and bad labs pre-surgery, so I just told everyone that I had to lose weight and exercise for my health. All 100% true.I'm very pleased with my decision. It is not only possible to not tell, it's really easy, -
Down to 194.8 this morning. Just 1/2 pound lost. I am seven months from surgery and haven't lost since Thanksgiving (I indulged in all of the Holiday goodies.). I will just keep trying to make good choices and exercise. I can't control the scale, but with God's help I can control my behavior. Trying not to get discouraged and to find time to really think about why this is so important.9405511899560705486505

Hi Bea, I just discovered your challenge and I love it! I gained weight over the Holidays and feel so awful about it. It is too late to join the challenge? I do have my weight from yesterday.

One month out this coming Tuesday - eating/drinking
cooterbrown replied to JRFuerst's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 12 days post op and have a different concern. I could tolerate hot, cold, liquids from day 1 and I could easily get down 64 oz plus Protein shakes in a day. Granted, I took very small sips the first week, but have found that I can take a regular drink without discomfort, too. I find myself wondering if my sleeve is going to be restrictive enough. Then I remind myself that while food looks SO good, I'm not hungry. On two occasions when I took two pills that I have been on for years, I could not get them down and vomited them up even after drinking, drinking, drinking to wash them down. So, I figure that's a good sign...I'm just trying to be happy that I am doing well. If anyone further along has any opinions or experiences to share, I would love to hear it. JRFuerst, so glad you "turned the corner!" -
Day 5 post op - i feel somewhat human !
cooterbrown replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am thrilled for you! I am 4 days post-op and feel pretty good EXCEPT for the fact that my largest incision burns and stings like crazy when I am on my feet. I have to support it with my open hand while I am up. Did anyone experience this your first few days? If so, how long did it last? I have been walking 10-15 minutes 3 times a day. I a 55, so probably older that many of you. I would love to hear your experience. -
Meds during 1st week postop
cooterbrown replied to wpierce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not want to give you bad advice, but I have 4 pills that I have taken for years. My doc said to wait until day 3 and then it would be OK to take take them. He even prescribed one supplement that is in capsule form.. I have been taking a pill, sipping for a couple minutes then taking the next one. I haven't had a problem. -
4th day of post op and liquid stage..
cooterbrown replied to abba0604's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm 4th day post-op too. I haven't had a problem getting liquids in. I have a ninja and it makes ice cubes into snow cone consistency. i have been making a big cup of that, adding some Water and a twist of lemon and eating it with spoon. I am not much on artificial sweetners and always drank water with lemon, so it is something I enjoy, The doc prescribed an antacid that cost $400! I was waiting to get a cheaper alternative and woke up at 3:30 am with horrible acid reflux. It is not something I have had very often and it was miserable for a while. I ate several tums and sat up in a chair a while until it was time to take my pain med. Then went back and slept for 6 more hours. I have never had surgery and have been surprised at the pain. But everyday is better than the one before. I don't want to give you bad advise, but I was told in the hospital that virtually no one is able to get in all of their fluids at first. So, just do your best. We need to be patient with ourselves. If I had not had to have a gigantic hernia repaired at the time of my sleeve, I think it would have had regretted my decision over the last few days. I pray that you will see improvement each day. Hang in there! -
June surgery dates
cooterbrown replied to DenaLJ1354's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for June 5th. I am nervous but excited. Kind of dreading the pre-op diet and post-op pain, but I know it will be worth it. I've let myself start making plans for what to take to the hospital, etc. Congratulations on getting one step closer to the new you! I wonder where we will be this time next year..Skinnier and healthier, I pray.
