  3. I ate scrambled eggs as soon as I went onto soft foods at 3 days post op. No problem at all getting and keeping them down. Not a real beer drinker but here it can really stretch the pouch, guess I'll stick to an occasional glass of wine.

    Soda

My doctor says that the carbonation will stretch the pouch. Also, the nutritionist at her office says that studies have shown than aspartame when in beverages causes the body to secreet insulin the same that is does when drinking sugary drinks. For people who tend to have a weight problem, this insulin is stored as fat. I find this interesting and although I haven't done it yet, I intend to see what I can find on-line about this study. In the past I've gone in cycles - one year where all I wanted was iced tea, the next where all I wanted was diet pepsi. This year, it so happens I was more in the iced tea mode, but since my band, there have been a couple of times I would have really liked a DP. Oh well....small price to pay and water is so much healthier.

    Bad news from my doctor

When I was at my pre op nutrition class, there was a lady in there who had previously had gastric bypass by a different surgeon. She was now getting ready for a band. Don't know the particulars, but in some way it was not successful. My surgeon is one of the tops in the nation, so I doubt she was going to do the band for the money on this lady. Also, as others have mentioned, look at the success stories on this website. I'm only 3 weeks out from surgery and have lost 13 of the 70 that I need to, but I certainly don't feel like it's failing me. I get my fill on 8/9 and I can tell you that this has forced me to change my food choices and eating habits. Good luck in your choice!
  6. I think they look great, but I understand where you're coming from. 25 years ago I had a breast reduction and was okay with the way it turned out but not thrilled. I was young and didn't speak up about my dissatisfaction and always wished I would have. I can see what you're talking about, but how do they look in your clothes? Is there a noticeable difference? If they really bother you then get them redone, after all 8k is alot to lay out and not be totally satisfied. But as far as they way they look to others - I would say that I planning to have a lift iwth implants after I lose my weight and I would hope they look as good as yours.
  7. Yes, I was 5.5 tall, weighed 224 and bmi was 38 or so. I was approved for band or bypass by my insurance company. I do have high blood pressure controlled by low dose of medication and also have sleep apnea. My insurance company reviewed my "very thorough" file submitted by my surgeon and approved me in a few days. I did not have to appeal. Surgery was 2 weeks 5 days ago, am down 11 pounds post op and 7 pounds pre op.
  8. I'm 2.5 weeks out, have been feeling great and suddenly I have this pain just left of my belly button. It's a pulling sensation and hurts to walk or bend over. Been staying on my eating program and not sure where this is coming from. I will call my doc tomorrow, but curious if anyone else has experience this.
  9. I, too, was banded on the 28th. It was really rough at first with the pain, but each day has gotten better and today, I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill. The first 3 days, I used gas-x strips, which I think really helped. I feel pretty much back to normal now, with just a tiny bit of discomfort at the port site. My dr put me on soft foods starting 7/1, and I have tolerated them very well. I typicall eat hb egg with turkey sausage and then chicken or fish for my other meals. (all meals are protein only, with soft cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt also being options) A good tip I learned from the nutritionist should your food feel stuck is to swallow a bite of yogurt. She says some even eat a couple of bites at the beginning of their meal to coat the esophagus. I believe that my stomach is no longer swollen inside so there really is no restriction, and basically I'm "dieting" using my own willpower for the next month till I get my fill. I'm down 10.5 pounds in a week and another 7 post op for a 17.5 total. I'm liking that, but I must admit the first few days were so hard I was wondering if I'd made a mistake. I don't think that way anymore. The way our psychologist explained it yesterday is that there are 3 stages, in stage one (prefill) you are a dieter, stage two (losing weight) you are a weight manager and stage 3 (goal) you are a health manager. Makes sense to me and makes it easier to navigate through these testy waters right now!
