Persistent vomiting and retching increses the risk for a slip. Stomach acid demineralizes the teeth by removing calcium. A Malory-Weiss tear or partial tear of the esophagus can happen and cause massive GI bleeding. Seen that a time or two. Vomiting is bad...

The vomiting is troubling. She could be too tight or she may have a slip. How old is her Band? If she eats slowly and a small amount does she still get sick?? If not then she is eating too fast and too much. She needs to see her surgeon so she can be evaluated further. Vomiting to maintain her weight is very concerning.

Sorry about that, My name is Todd Belott MD Im a partner at Surgical Clinic of Louisiana in Marrero LA. I have been doing almost exclusively Lap Bands since 2004.We are small, no Web Site yet. I still see each of my patients every time they come to the office. We also see patient from Mexico and Europe. Our coordiators, one who is also a patient and lost over 100 lbs in 6mos has helped create our diet protocols. The advice I give is the same advice we give our patients. I just want to help and give a medical prospective. Again sorry for my poor typing skills. Todd P Belott MD. FACS Surgical Clinic of LA 504 349 6860

You need a fill my freind. you lost fat around the band and the band needs tightening. Being hungry between meals and struggleing not to cheat are key signs for a fill. you only have 1 cc. most need 2 to 2.5cc for bands 9.5 and 10 cm for good restriction. Get a fill. Stretching ocuurs when you dont control the volume of food you eat. Remember 1/2 to 1 cup of food (meat/ veggies/ minimal carbs) will keep you satiated ( not feeling hungry) for several hours if your band if adequately filled Good luck

Sorry this happened to you. It has happened to one of my pts a year ago. The sutures that hold the port to the mucle prob broke. your surgeon will be able to fix it as a minor procedure in the operating room.

You sound like you need your band completely deflated to alow all swelling to resolve and if you are still unable to eat solids without symptoms then i would get an upper GI. you are taking a lot of prilosec be careful. -
Dear itsyovonne, It sound like the band is a little too tight. Going back to 2 cc for a while or less should help. If symptoms continue then an upper GI may be necessary. good luck

buy a plastic 1/2 cup all the food you eat per meal should fit in it. greater than 50% meat. some patient loss the painful sensation that occurs when food remains in the esophagus so your esopahgus acts like a pouch. eat 1/2 to 1 cup per meal if the band is adequately filled you will not feel hungry until it is time to eat agian. also no drinking and EAT SLOWLY....

maximize protein intake and zinc supplementation

reflux after should be agressively investigated especially if heartburn does not improve with deflation. The band will not always resolve reflux if it was present before the surgery but most see a dramatic improvement. Meds like protonix, nexium are ok to take but after other potential serious causes for the reflux have been excluded

It is the first sign the band is overfilled. Over eating will cause this as well so watch your volumes. 1/2 - 1 cup per meal...

an UGI may be a good idea or even an endoscopy the problem is the gastroenerologist dont always realize what they are seeing so a band surgeon should be involved. if your band has slipped often times removal is reqired you have only gained 20 lbs so aside from the binging you have good eating habbits. look around there are plenty of band surgeons who can help you...also are you still on ulcer meds??? -
