How is everyone handling the BBQ's today
weigh-in replied to Sweetcarol238's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved on 5/17. I am feeling good so I decided to invite family over for a BBQ. They were all afraid to come because they didn't want to eat in front of me. I wanted to break everyone from that, so I encouraged them to come. I am perfectly fine with people eating and enjoying their food in front of me. It doesn't bother me. They all feel guilty. I don't want to be isolated. I want to be with everyone because in my opinion, it's not about the food, it's about family being together. I made a huge pasta salad and my hubby BBQ'd burgers and dogs. I'm not gonna lie, it all looked and smelled great, but I was truly ok with it all. My way of dealing with all of this I guess. The family relaxed when it came time to eat and didn't make a huge deal about it. It was a great day. Btw, my son in law is serving in the Army. This was also to pay tribute to him, as well! -
Soft food vs Pureed foods
weigh-in replied to weigh-in's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the hand out from the dr it just stated at 1 week post op begin soft foods of scrambled eggs, any kind of cheese except cream cheese, yogurt, plain, cottage cheese and refried beans. Then it states to be on the soft foods for 3 weeks, then to move on to introducing real foods, one at a time, into my diet. -
What's the difference between soft foods and puréed foods? I started soft foods last Friday and will be on it for 3 weeks, then I go straight to introducing real foods. Is puréed the same as soft? I'm afraid to just be eating scrambled egg n cheese n mashed potatoes for 3 weeks then jump straight into real foods.

I start on the exciting stage of scrambled egg and cheese, yogurt, etc. my question- how long should I take to eat the egg? Do I need to take 30-40 min to eat it, or cuz it's egg, I just eat as usual. And the cheese with the egg... melts... Isn't it hard to break it down while eating. Sorry if I sound ignorant but I want to finally eat...and not get sick. Thank you ????

This is great advise... Thank you. Another question... It says we can eat any cheese. ANY? Like string cheese... And if we eat sliced cheese, I'm assuming same rule... Eat slowly and wait between bites??? I'm soooo nervous.

I had my surgery last Friday. I would vomit 20 minutes after they would give me the anti nausea Meds in my IV .... After the third time, I rejected the anti nausea meds and I was fine. Good luck :-)

Had my surgery on Friday 5/17. I've been doing fairly well, thankfully. Over the past two days, I've noticed a horrible taste in my mouth. I think I have read somewhere something about ketosis setting in. I used to love Crystal Light Fruit Punch and stocked up for after surgery. I can't stomach it anymore. ( no pun intended). And... It's not my stomach that has issues with it, it's my mouth... The after taste. Anything that has a "sweet" taste, actually gives me the same yucky taste in my mouth. Any thoughts, suggestions, advice???? I have heard thru these forums about Sonic ice. I had my husband drive there last night. He bought 2 - 10# bags of ice for me. This will hopefully be my answer to getting liquids in, as Water doesn't taste any better to me. Looking forward to hearing any advice. Thank you!! :-)

Horrible taste in mouth
weigh-in replied to weigh-in's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did call my doctor and the nurse their stated it was more likely the anesthesia coming out of my body. They said this was normal and will go away in time. I don't have a metallic taste, just an odd aftertaste while I would drink the crystal light. Dasani flavored water sounds refreshing and I'm willing to give it a try. Thank you all for your replies!! :-) -
Kaiser SO CAL? Surgeons
weigh-in replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done out of Kaiser Riverside. They refer you to a surgery center that contracts with Kaiser. I went thru Suh Bariatric. I have read that Dr. Suh is ranked top 5 bariatric surgeons in the country. He's been doing these surgeries for 17 years. He is an amazing doctor and his staff is wonderful. He has two office locations, one in Corona and one in Murrieta. Surgery is done at Southwest Hospital in Wildomar, but hear he will be doing them soon, as well, at the new Loma Linda Hospital. Highly recommended!! -
I've looked everywhere... CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, grocery stores.... Someone even suggested Trader Joes... And no luck. Chewables are working just fine!! :-)
-
Anyone have this issue? I'm not sure if its from sleeping upright since the surgery, or if they tossed me around while I was under the knife!! I would have never thought about my back hurting, but it is really sore!! I'm not taking any pain meds.... I don't want to if I don't really need to. Anyone else suffer from back aches after surgery?

3 days post op MY BACK IS SORE
weigh-in replied to weigh-in's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if there are any stretches or light exercise to alleviate the pain :-| -
I got chewables too, was afraid to chew them thinking it was gonna get stuck, but the gas pains were horrific. I have had two chewables with no problem. Woot woo. Gas pains have subsided... THANK GOODNESS!!!

Does anyone else dream that your eating everything?
weigh-in replied to Sweetcarol238's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahahahaa that's funny cuz I am 3 days out and I dreamt last night that I drank 1/2 a beer and some cheez-its. In my dream, after drinking a few gulps, I had remembered there was carbonation in it and freaked out, then woke up. I'm not even a drinker, but loved cheez-its!! Glad to hear other dream like I do. :-) -
3 days post op - gummy multi vitamin ok
weigh-in posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 days post op. my 1st day at home. I'm to start a multi vitamin. Is a gummy multi vitamin ok vs chewable? -
I have looked everywhere for gas x strips but could t find them. Are they prescription only?
-
When were you sleeved? I was sleeved on Friday and my stomach won't stop talking. I know it's gas pains cuz the moment I started rocking in place to loosen up, I began belching and a lot of the noises stopped.

Had my surgery on Friday afternoon. I'm to be released from the hospital today. Feeling good. Only prob was nausea after anti nausea meds. I've been able to keep ice chips down. Been ambulating pretty well. Doc was just here and said I can start on full liquids. IM SCARED TO DEATH!!! I must drink some broth and protein before I am released today, to make sure I can keep it down. So happy the worst part is over. Looking forward to my new beginning!!

Thank you so much! I'm eating broth now and it's not my favorite but it staying down. Apple juice stayed down but very sour. I've got some other stuff they want me to try, so I will try if it gets me out of here. No pain from incisions. Just occasional gas pains. I feel good. Better than yesterday. I'm walking good, would walk better if I didn't have to walk around with the IV and heart monitor cords hanging everywhere. I am looking forward to each day being easier. :-)
