    My dilemma

Well my BMI was 35 and then I was diagnosed with sleep apnea so my insurance covered it. For 5 months I thought I was getting the lap band and then I changed my mind because with the band you need to keep going back for adjustments and then you change your diet back to liquids after each adjustment. I didn't think this was for me so I decided for the sleeve and got it. Very happy I did. You get your sleeve and start your life step by step to each food level and learn to grow with your sleeve. The only negative thing is that I can eat sweets and not feel sick or have a side effect. I hear that gastric bypass patients just can't eat sweets ever or have dumping syn. So your own self control will need to be in place to not eat the sweets and gain weight back. Which is what I'm going to do. I tell everyone the sleeve is the best.

    6 MONTHS out...

Finally, I found someone near my timeframe in this journey. I am 5.5 months out, have lost 60 pounds, down from size 18 to size 10 and have reached all my goals. But, I am working everyday to maintain and keep toning up my body. I've always exercised so this is not all new to me but now I have new wrinkles, new sagging skin-but not too much. I seem to be able to eat carbs easier but not too much and somewhat slow moving when eating my meats. I'm worried that we both have hit the mark where our sleeve has done most of the work and now it is up to us and our behaviors and will power. Hang in there...I'm worried that I can eat sweets and I better behave myself. I sometimes think this is all a dream and we could lose the benefits of our sleeve.
  3. This is so true...We would diet and exercise before and lose weight..but life gives you some lemons and things pile up and the weight creeps back on. The sleeve should give us all the extra help we need to lose and then keep it off--because the sleeve won't let us eat too much on bad days and it is easier to go exercise since I'm 50 pounds lighter. Keep doing what we need to do to be healthy.

    6 weeks post op...now what?

Hi, I'm 8 weeks post-op. I've lost over 35 pounds. This is my typical day of eating: 1/2 cup of coffee with 1/2 cup of reduced calorie vanilla soy milk cottage cheese with some peaches baby bel cheese tuna fish with just mayo a few slices of cucumber a few cherry tomatoes greek yoguart 2 oz. chicken with cukes and cherry tom. or any other meat with a light sauce of something shrimp is wonderful as well. If I don't get enough of Protein in the day--I drink a Protein shake or eat a bag of protein chips...I bought these on line and do well. I am drinking lactose milk now--never did that before this surgery. Always eat something and then I wait 30 minutes to start drinking again.....always get my 60 oz. of fluid/day. Good luck.

Not such a great belly day

I was sleeved on 5/13 and have been great up to this point. But I too don't like eating. Have eaten yogurt and no problems. But little chicken yesterday and today white fish. Gave me pressure, burping, felt full for an hour. I will stick with Greek yogurt from now on... Even the Protein Shakes make me uncomfortable....yogurt has 16 grams of Protein. I'll just eat it from now on. It will be trial and error for the next few weeks for us. Good luck.

    New here

Welcome. I'm5 days post op and feeling just fine. Listen to all these tips on this website--they do help. Walk as much as you can at the hospital--the IV is there for you to get fluids because just sipping while in the hospital is uncomfortable--not painful..just harder than before. You will feel better coming home because you are not getting awaken during the night at the hospital. When you begin sipping your water do it slowly, I used to be able to drink a big glass of water all the time trying to lose weight. Now, take sips--you don't want to hurt your new stomach. Good luck and don't be nervous everything will be fine.

You can tell you've lost already...keep it up. Rae
  8. Day 5: Surgery was on Monday. My doctor was wonderful and I heard all the nurses on that floor say they go to him for their own surgeries. Make me feel better selecting him. Feel pretty good...walking everyday and drinking, drinking. Worst days were in the hospital with IV pole to drag around. Since I've started this journey I've lost 20 pounds. Can't wait until next week when I can start other liquids.

    With or Without sleep apnea

My BMI was on the lower side, so I had to go get the sleep study to even be eligible for this surgery. I didn't think I had sleep apnea--but I do and since Christmas I've been using the machine and I do feel better and less tired. Go get tested because insurance companies want to see you have this and then they want to pay for your surgery. Also, I'm scheduled for next week and the doctors want me to make sure I inform the doctor that day that I have sleep apnea so they regulate my dose for putting me to sleep. If you have it--don't you want the doctors to know so you don't have complications of being put under? It's important to do it now and know until you get the surgery. Good luck!
