I have fought my weight since high school, but managed it through college and for a few years. At 32, I became a diabetic and my BP began to climb. Ever since then I've gradually put on more and more weight. My efforts seemed to be to no avail. I have explored bariatric surgery for five years and my endocrinologist encouraged it, but my insurance doesn't cover any weight loss programs. This spring, I began to look in earnest for a self-pay and found Dr. Heider. Paying for the surgery myself won't be easy, but it comes out to be approx. what I'd pay for a new car. The choice was simple.

I was 440 pounds on April 30, 2013 when I began this journey. My surgery is set for June 13, 2013 and I'm looking forward to it. I've been diligent about using the pre-surgery diet and have done fairly well. Everything I've researched indicates the more you lose up front the better chance you have in reaching your goal.

I am a college professor teaching photojournalism and multimedia. I have worked as a photojournalist for over 35 years and have covered everything from pet of the week to the President. I enjoyed shooting sports and have covered every major league and college sport.
