    4 Days Post-Op

I got most of my gas out before leaving the hospital, it was a hootin tootin good time on day 3! Thank heavens for private rooms! But then out of the blue, on about day 7 it came out of nowhere and lodged in my left shoulder. Sonofagun. After a day it was gone again. I slept in a recliner every night for the first ten days because it felt better. I think that helped. Have you tried shakes in both milk and Water? I like the fruity ones in water (mixed weak and served cold) and the other ones in lactaid fat free. I use Sytrax nectar. The berry ones taste like crystal light and I have Cappuccino and Cookies and cream for putting in the milk. They both blend up smooth in one of those shake bottles. At this link you can order a mixer upper sample pack. I find everything is better chilled. http://www.bjsbariatrics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bjb&Product_Code=synSamplePack&Category_Code=syn I hope things turn in a better direction for you soon! Jay
  3. I was sleeved on the 31st, so I'm still on full liquids. Things are going well I would say, a few minor issues but I'm happy to have zero pain. I was 322 the morning of surgery and this morning I was 301. I'm climbing towards my Protein and Water goals, but I had some reflux that was getting in my way. Hot Soups with powder in them are the clear winner for me now!

    PUREE DAY 1!

My mouth is watering. I go soft/puree this weekend. I can't wait. eggs will definitely be my first meal. Then I think we'll have to puree up some meat with potatoes.

Awesome work! I bet you feel great! Do you notice more spring in your step as you hustle around town?

    Breakfast Egg Salad Sandwich

Wow that does look good. And easy to make. Do you have a special egg salad recipe that you can share? I bet you could hide some unflavored Protein in there too and make it a super snack!
  7. Limiting caloric intake! Works every time it's tried. They don't need to know HOW I'm doing that. Most people arent even aware they eat 3000+ a day. If they're really interested I just break down a normal meal and show them where all the calories are and say "i have a Protein shake instead".
  8. Three 30 day periods of supervised weight loss require 4 visits. Even though they weigh you at the first one, the time before it wasnt supervised.

    Puree & Soft stage

The Cooking for Bariatric Surgery for Dummies book has a lot of great recipes and ideas. I'm 6 days away from purees but my focus is set on meats. pureed or not, its still meat, and Im an american man lol. eggs too. WOOHOO! http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Loss-Surgery-Cookbook-Dummies/dp/0470640189/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383946262&sr=8-1&keywords=cooking+dummies+weight+loss+surgery

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

Hey Donkey. I'm west of philly but just got sleeved at Penn on halloween. I hope you have Dr Williams. Send me a PM and I'll be happy to tell you everything the drugs didnt make me forget. In short, it was awesome. I didnt take a pain killer after the second day.
  11. I'm 7 days PostOp and last night my dad came over and brought a pie for the kids. I was stricken by the odor. It had me and it knew it. So I chewed a couple bites, spitting them into the trash each time. I even wiped my mouth out with a napkin lol. The funny thing is, I have no hunger, and not thirst. What I put into my body is a conscious decision now. I actaully have to remind myself to eat on a schedule. And i'm totally loving that part. The smell thing triggered my brain, not my gut. I guess I'll be fighting my brain over smells for a while. Be strong! Get to surgery as healthy as you can and you'll look back with pride as the new you doesn't have to struggle with that anymore.
  12. I left hospital with a script for laxative and softener (Senna and cholase)
  13. I started out at 347 and got sleeved on 10/31 at 321. My goal weight is 220 with some decent muscle mass. I'm sure you can achieve it if you try.

How did you pick your "starting weight"?

Highwater mark is convenient. Like Denise, my highwater mark was the day I went to the information session.

    I'm embarrassed...

Gyms are weird. Nobody talks much. It's like an elevator or a bathroom. Everyone sorta figures the next guy wants privacy. Don't take that to be judgement. Most people dislike their own bodies and are just as self-conscious as you! I wish you all the best getting through the front door. If you haven't written your goals and reasons for weight loss down, do it and tape it to your visor or steering wheel! For me, attending my daughters wedding in something other than a wheel chair is worth getting out of the car and in the door (she's 2 y/o lol). Motivation is a personal thing. I also keep hockey sticks in the truck since getting back on the ice is a goal of mine.

    body pump

Mine says 6 weeks. Definitely check.

Waiting for authorization, on pins and needles

It sucks having your future in the hands of some faceless committee's hands. I feel your pain. I was naseous during the wait. Then when I got my approval, I was naseous again for a different reason! Exercise your right to call in and check on the process (to insurance). I checked every 48 hours.
  19. Biologically, you should ask your PCP if there's any counter indicators that he/she sees. They know you best. I will tell you, my metabolism changed a lot through my high school and college years. You may have a change coming up. Unfortunately, for me, it was always a change for the worst! If you have lost weight before only to gain it back, several times, thats a big indicator you might be ready. Once you arrive at the point where you say "I can't do this myself" then I think its a rational idea to consider weight loss surgery.
  20. I'm on 1000cal diet and Ive lost ten pounds on it, after one week. I have 2-3 egg whites for Breakfast Protein shake snack ~10:30 Smart ones meal for lunch ~1 Veggies for snack Smart ones meal for dinner ~6 Protein Shake snack~8:30 veggies for snack if still hungry during witching hour And I suck on my Water bottle all day long Just weighed in at 321 at the gym this morning. I was 332 at my last NUT class. I gotta say Im revved up. I feel like 1) I can do this and 2) it works! Plus my stomach is shrinking and apparently my liver too.
  21. If your job is physical I'd be real careful and talk it over with the surgeon. Even pulling yourself up into the cab might pop something loose. You have to think of all the little movements you take for granted. For me to work, I have to drop off and pick up at daycare. And their parking lot is a nightmare, so I have to carry my daughter. There's no way I can do that until probably 6 weeks out. Some other things to think about while on the road: Can you fix your liquids easily? Can you walk regularly? What if you get naseous while driving? If you needed immediate care, how far from your surgeon's team would you be?
  22. My Nut says we can snack on as many zero calorie veggies as we want. And LOTs of Water. Is there a part of the day where you reall struggle the most, like maybe late night?
  23. Holy cow man! That's incredible! Congrats.

    Feeling Alone

I'm not Dr Phil or anything, but it seems like there may be a wall there that your husband put up for some reason. Could it be the cost, or worry how it'll affect HIM. He may also not be taking it seriously, thinking you'll back out. From a guys perspective, try telling your husband you NEED him, that you need his strength and his steadiness, in this difficult time. That word is really a trigger for a lot of men and can melt some walls. It makes the cowboy get on the horse inside our goofy psyches. A woman in need is rarely said no to. You know your reasons for doing this are good and valid. I would really try and get him to come to a support group where there are post op patients mixed in. It may show him what youre committing too and how important his role will be. Wishing you all the best!
  25. I'm actually starting to think those 300cal microwave meals are kinda filling. (Im not on liquid only). And I did lick the salt off a cracker last night.
