Almost 4 Weeks Out. Can't Do Drinks Or Powders. Getting No Protein. Need Food Suggestions
2Big2Skate replied to PinkBubble's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
To the OP, first, call your nutritionist pronto. They should know your status and your challenges. You may have something preventing the eating that the doc will want to check out. (I had acid reflux and they saw the esophegus getting inflamed so they put me on more PPIs. Voila, chow time!) Cottage cheese cottage cheese cottage cheese. add flavors if you want. no sugar added preservatives/jams help (if youre not a CC lover like me) You can make your egg into egg salad and spruce it up. Also, dont give up on Protein shakes and drinks. There are SO many different flavors and consistencies that something will click eventually. If the think watery ones bother you, try a thicker milkier one. Vitamin SHoppe will make you samples of just about anything. And HOW you make them is just as important. Maybe start with the pre-mades and see if there's anything there. You can also add sugar free flavored syrups to anything. Hazlenut or some more powerful flavors will cover the "proteiny" taste and smell pretty well. (i'm on a coconut Water kick using the Isopure cocotein). But I find I get sick of a particular flavor in under a week! So I keep moving. Call the doc and let us know. Wishing you the best! -
Just Want To Eat ....
2Big2Skate replied to Simpley_ke's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Find bulk without calories! It aids the transition. My doc let me eat raw veggies till i was blue in the face. i found some zero cal dressing that was just ok. But by the time youre sick of raw veggies filling you up, you'll be down ten pounds and surgery will be so close you wont want to eat anymore anyway! -
Like a health savings account? You can apply those pretax dollars to your bills I believe.

How Much Help Did You Need?
2Big2Skate replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have kids? I think I could've taken care of myself easily. But you'll be low energy for a while. You wont be able to do much for other people until some time has passed. And you'll no doubt need some errands run for medicine and foodstuffs. -
Please Help Me Wrap My Head Around This...
2Big2Skate replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
We're all mental lol. There's a smidgeon of masculine superiority to bein able to whoop the worlds ass when you weigh a lot. So in my warped psyche there was some rationalization taking place when i sat down to a meal. Of course I should eat the most. Of course I should have another helping of everything. Im John Stinkin Wayne down here and Im hungry! Mr Melon and I are starting to argue too. It's been telling me that it misses gorging and I shouldnt be satisfied with small volumes. So I show it my scars and say "SHUT UP MELON! Where would I put all that food now? You'd kill us both if you could, jerk!" I hope he goes away soon. But remember this, even though we got issues from the shoulders up, from the shoulders DOWN we're getting insanely HEALTHY. Our hearts are thanking us, our bones are thanking us, and all our organs are having an easier time. Our joints are thriving under a "normal" load. And our life expectancy and enjoyment factors are increasing greatly. -
I Got The Ok To Eat 2Mrw. Green Peppers In Eggs?
2Big2Skate replied to Yoly617's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If youre post op, Id say no on the peppers. The outside of vegetables is real starchy and hard to break down. Your stomach may want to hold onto it a while and work on it (its what a stomach does). It sounds like youre on soft/purees like me. I do eggs for breakfast and lots of egg salad too. i just go salt/pepper/tobasco for flavoring. I also toughen em up for a change of pace sometimes. -
I think a big issue with pregnancy is getting enough nutrition for you and the baby in the first year. We're very nutrient deficient due to the low intake.

Strange subject line, but this IS a success story. I'll be 3 weeks out in 2 days (thurs 11/21/13). My sleeve and I are getting along famously. I am on purees and being a little experimental and he's hanging in there like a champ! I was sleeved at 322 and today I weighed in at 293! I havent seen the 2's in a while. And I feel great. I'm getting around much better, my back doesnt hurt, I can tie my shoes without a big circus production, etc. Loving the sleeve! My question for you all is this: Now that I'm getting excited by my weight loss, and really buying into the momentum of losing in my new lifestyle, I looked up my target/goal weight on the BMI chart. I'll still be a 29 - on the edge of overweight and obese! I'm like 6' 2.5" and my goal is 235. I didn't go through all this to still have some labcoat nerds call me obese! Yes I know the BMI chart is a load of crap, and athletic people have no chance of ever being 'normal' on it. But for some reason, having the label "obese" at the end of this journey is buggin the crap out of me. I'm very much a goal oriented and competitive person, so knowing where the finish line is matters in my mental approach. I based my goal on a weight I remembered being when I was a college athlete. I competed at 235. And I'm going to be in the gym and also on the ice so expect my physique to be in line with those days. What would you do? Would you change your goal to a lower weight or proudly wear the label obese as you strut around with your new body?

Walk walk walk! Change positions when you sleep. And try hot/cold pads.

1 Weak Out - Dehydrated, Getting Hardly Any Protein And Starving
2Big2Skate replied to PinkBubble's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was below all my marks for the first week too. The hot Soups were a big savior for me, I could do much more volume with them than i could even with plain Water. Every day you wake up, you're a little bit more healed and things will go a little easier. -

1st trip to Costco ... what should i get?
2Big2Skate replied to Sunny702's topic in Food and Nutrition
Princess mentioned the Cottage cheese a minute before I posted, but that was my suggestion. Also they may carry those egg blenders for cheap. -
Yes, being active helps. I found changing my sleeping posture often helped. The longer i was in one position the more it hurt. I slept in a recliner the first week so I could go up and down a bit with the angle.

I don't mean to sound judgy, but you need to question your assumption that you can handle living with this temptation. A few kisses are not 'nothing'. And being pretty sure you can stay platonic with the guy is dancing too close to the fire in my humble opinion. Trust is a like a prized christmas tree ornament, its too fragile to play with carelessly, and too valuable to replace. There is no amount of money that will ever restore the closeness and love you have with your husband. I agree with the posters who say FLEE from temptation. Get far far away! Your marriage is wonderful. So many people never get that. Protect it with everything you have! I know it won't be easy for you, and I wish you the very best.

This is so perfectly timed for me! I'm right there! I'm 2.5 weeks out and have been on pureed's for about a week. I'm doing: Blended refried Beans with a little cheese and hotsauce Salmon and/or chicken blended up up with a little FF mayo and hot sauce Not so Blended Soups Yogurt pudding Cottage Cheese Avocado I too feel like I can eat more and I'm feeling more head hunger. I can't say Ive had any real gut hunger yet.

Too many variales in play to tell. You have to do some testing to know. Try taking a food that made you sick before and only eat like an ounce over 20min. If it makes you sick, then its the food.

EGD results have me second guessing
2Big2Skate replied to LilRed🔥Mama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have moderate reflux and a hiatal hernia and a shiatskis ring they had to check out a couple times. I think barium constituted half of my pre-op diet! My doc indicated I may need to stay on the PPIs long term, but he didnt have any qualms about sleeving me. In the big scheme, what's so bad about a bypass? I mean comparing your future health options with and without surgery. If that's the simplest and best way to stave off a future full of weight related pathologies, due to your other conditions, it might be worth reconsidering. I would not want to have two surgeries either. -
It's Been Three Weeks And My Recovery Seems Slow To Me

That's a long time for gas. What do you feel immediately after swallowing, and where do you feel it? -
1 week follow up appt.
2Big2Skate replied to Bombs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you hitting your targets for fluids and Protein? Are your incisions healing nicely? How are you sleeping? What's bothering you, that should be on your agenda. If you can hit your intake goals, maybe they'll accelerate you to soft/puree. They did for me. -

Thinking Of Having The Sleeve Done , But Im Scared Any Words Of Wisdom ?
2Big2Skate replied to luv2plumb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there. I'll tell you my story quick. I'm a 39 y/o guy with a pretty stressful office job. I was sleeved 14 days ago and I came back to work this past monday (4 days ago?). I had no surgical pain at all. They took me off the pain meds the second day since i wasn't pressing the button (except when i saw a big needle coming - then they laughed at me and took my button away). I haven't taken a pill for pain since leaving hospital on the third day. The full liquid stage is manageable at a desk job, and the soft food stage is too. The only issue for me is energy levels. I feel kind of run down after lunch but i tough guy it. Me and another guy do some power laps around the building to wake up and shoot the bull most days around 3pm. That's my story. You could have some bruising around your incisions, or be sent home with a drain in. It's surgery. Things go different for different people. Pick a great doctor on a great team in a great hospital and you will very likely have similar results. -
Im guessing you could get one of those little wispy kernal sheaths (the ones that get stuck in your gums) stuck in the stapled area? I think it also constipates some people.

At the car dealership repair shop ... things that make you to hmmmm....
2Big2Skate replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
We all form prejudices in our head against something or other. Me? I hate left handed people from Iceland who wear sunglasses indoors. THE NERVE. But seriously, we're all human and attractiveness has been shown to drive all sorts of decision making (that it shouldnt). Don't be shocked if many doors are opened professionally too. The human brain is conditioned to form snap opinions and make instant assessments of others (fight vs flight, prospective mating partners etc). We all belong on the discovery channel. It really shows the need for us to be intentionally kind to those that society disfavors. Since we've been there and seen it from the other side, shame on us if we don't reach out to encourage anyone we see struggling with their weight. -
That looks really good!
