Sleevers by profession.
NewYear'sSleeve replied to BWaltD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a Web Communications Specialist for a health care quality improvement website under contract for The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services...so by default I sort of work in health care helping doctors and clinics get the info they need to better serve Medicare patients, save the gov't some money and meet health care quality measures. May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?
NewYear'sSleeve replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I truly don't understand how people are losing so much post surgery. Is it because they haven't restricted their calories and carbs and yo-yo dieted for years? I would imagine if I was eating several thousand calories before surgery I might be losing quicker. Oh well, nothing I can do now but be grateful for the 40 lbs I have lost in the last 6 months. Hmm, well you can spontaneously become allergic to things that you didn't use to have an allergy to. That happened to me with pennicillin. If you isolate your food you might be able to figure out if that is causing it. Otherwise maybe try a Benadryl everyday (if it doesn't put you to sleep) if the itching is bothering you. Well unlike some posters I really havent lost my hunger. If I don't eat about every 3 hours my stomach starts getting growly. Today I had: Breakfast- lite and fit greek yogurt, 10 raw almonds Lunch-half a turkey sausage pizza made on flat out wrap and about a third cup of cottage cheese (over an hour & a half) Snack-Premier Protein shake Dinner-?? I'll prob be pretty hungry after going to play tennis. I'm usually around 800-900 calories, 60+ protein and less than 40 carbs. I'm really frustrated with my weight loss, hunger and the constipation. I'm not sure if I need to increase my calories or try carb-cycling or something. Starting Weight: 270, Surgery Weight: 251, Two-Week Post-op Weight: 241, Four-Week Post-op Weight: 235, Eight-Week Post-op: 231 -
I've actually noticed that every time I am on a low carb diet that I get really bad tooth sensitivity. I don't know what the correlation is. Starting Weight: 270, Surgery Weight: 251, Two-Week Post-op Weight: 241, Four-Week Post-op Weight: 235

Couldn't believe how much this surgery cost when I saw the amount billed to my insurance plan! (Luckily my insurance should cover all of that) Wondered what others have paid... -

I've noticed that people who did a two-week pre-op diet tend to lose less weight the first month post-op, but I have a feeling that is just our body trying to figure everything out! Starting Weight: 270
Surgery Weight: 251
Two-Week Post-op Weight: 241 -

Me too! Though I'm not sure that mirroring what other are doing will necessarily work for me. I'm hoping to make it to 16 lbs loss by Tues which will be 4 weeks post-op (three lbs to go!). Starting Weight: 270
Surgery Weight: 251
Two-Week Post-op Weight: 241 -

Words of wisdom to new sleevers
NewYear'sSleeve posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As I am just beginning my journey post-op I've seen a lot of people relate it to being born again. I'm always looking for inspiration and thought I would share these words from Deepak Chopra: "You are [newly sleeved], right in the middle of a transitional phase. You relate as someone who is growing into a new person. That person won't fully appear for awhile. Yet the tendencies are already in evidence. Be gentle with this new person as she is being born. Be just as gentle with others. Realize that much more is going on beneath the surface than they are letting on. Associate with the most positive people in your group, not the most popular or the ones everybody envies and imitates." Have a great new day! NewYear'sSleeve replied to makemyownluck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you posted this. Seemed like everyone was losing a ton after the surgery but we. It's been 2 weeks and I've lost 10 lbs and only 2 this past week. I think we become frustrated because we have these expectations of what our bodies "should" be doing which doesn't coincide w what our bodies are prepared to do. I know it will come off so I'm trying to adjust my expectations now. This transformation is definitely happening on many different levels for me. -
Didn't want to be one of those people moaning about "only" losing 10 lbs since surgery on the 7th (have only lost 2 lbs in the last week) but here I am. Anyway...how in the heck does anyone get all their protein in??? I'm lucky to get 40 grams and can only eat about 300 calories a day. I'm afraid this is harming my weight loss, but I'm grateful because I feel good (a little tired), had a completely easy recovery, been walking and getting my fluids in.

$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?
NewYear'sSleeve replied to NewYear'sSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have already paid that for the sleep study I was required to get. No co-pays and I already met my out of pocket max and deductible and everything is covered at 100% after that. -
$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?
NewYear'sSleeve replied to NewYear'sSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am having to dispute a claim with UHC currently because they denied one of the surgery charges for 4300 even though they said it should be covered because I was preapproved. Now they are resubmitting it. Since I met my $1100 out of pocket max already I won't have to pay anything. I consider myself very fortunate and TOTALLY understand why Mexico is a good option for those who self-pay. -
3 days out...
NewYear'sSleeve replied to whytesands77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 7th and that pain was pretty unreal & unlike anything I've ever experienced BUT it's amazing how resilient we are. My incisions bother me on occasion but I've not had to take any pain meds since being released and I really feel almost like it never happened. I honestly feel like the pain I endured has made me stronger and more able to tolerate being physically uncomfortable for future workouts & struggles with diet to come. Feel better soon! -

That's a bummer. It's hard to tell what's causing it but if it's interferring with your life I would see my doc & get a script for something. I've been told that sometimes with nausea it almost becomes a pattern or self-reinforcing habit each time you get sick that can only be broken by an antiemetic (sp?)
