A very low calorie diet like the shake pre op diet causes ketosis, which is different to other types of ketosis diets. At this level, ketosis facilitates safe weight loss and keeps important body processes working properly while getting so few calories. Whilst your body and brain usually use carbohydrates as their main energy source, during ketosis, the body burns fat and ketones are produced, which supply the brain with energy. Excess ketones that your body does not use are excreted via urine and breath (thus the bad breath). Ketosis symptoms may include dehydration, fatigue, headaches and constipation, due to excessive amounts of sodium, potassium and water being lost from your body. However, your body can adjust to these changes in your electrolytes levels, and these symptoms will usually pass within the first few days (3-6 days) . This is followed by an increase in energy and reduction in appetite which, through this Intensive Phase, is likely to result in consistent and successful weight loss. It's also important to know that these are typical symptoms of a ketosis diet and you should try to stick to the program and pass through the first 3 days of the program, which is when you are most likely to experience Ketosis Side Effects. Of course, if you are concerned about your symptoms or if they persist, speak to your doctor, dietitian or pharmacist before adjusting or stopping the Optifast® VLCD™ Program.

You shouldn't wake up if you use a good Anaesthetist I didn't wake up for two hours after surgery in the recovery room

I suppose every ones journey is little different I'm in Sydney australia I had meetings with surgeon and dietician then went on two week very low calorie diet ie shakes liquid the week of surgery I had to visit the pre admissions at the hospital where I had an ECG done on my heart . Day of surgery I checked into surgery sweet got naked and put on gown and climbed onto my bed and awaited to be called to surgery. They wheeled me into the surgery holding bay where my surgeon and Anaesthetist visited then I was wheeled into surgery and climbed onto operating table last thing I remember was breathing gas through mask

Thanks hardest part is the emotions you go through on the day good luck with your op be brave and think about the reasons your doing it and your loved ones who will have a healthier you for longer

Pre op means before the operation you will have a meeting with your surgeon and dietician I did . I'm laying in hospital now had my operation yesterday

Hi all i am laying here in the hospital first day after operation. They had me out of bed today , had a shower and got to put my own clothes on. Have been drinking fluids and couple spoons of yoghurt, custard and soup throughout the day. After lunch they removed the drip because I'm taking in enough fluids. The trick is to walk as much as you can every hour or so couple laps around the ward and keep sipping on your fluids that way they take you off the drip and you can go home earlier I've been told I can go home tomorrow arvo
