What do I say to get insurance to cover revision when band hasn't slipped?
MaddieJ replied to MaddieJ's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks for all the info! I called the doctors office and talked to someone that finally discussed my upper GI results and found out that the reason my band failed is because it's around my lower esophagus and not in the right spot. So my doc did a peer to peer and I just got approval!!!! I could not be more excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Can I just say that waiting is horrible. I have no patience when it comes to waiting for approval. My impatience is so bad that yesterday while I was drugged up on benzodiazepines from major dental surgery I called both the insurance company and the surgeons office. OMG...there is no telling what I said and I remember some of what they said. Did I mention waiting is horrible? -.-

happy Sleeve Eve to me!

Good luck to all y'all!!! -
I think three months is too much too! I think they should realize that if you could have gotten it off without help then you would have already done it on your own. I don't know about y'all but my weight has been a struggle for me all my life. I don't have to weigh-in monthly....I am just waiting for insurance to decide if they are going to cover a lap band revision. I really think that sucks that some insurance companies make you wait HALF a YEAR! That's ridiculous!!

You and me both! Good luck! -
OMG... 6 months of weigh-ins- that's torture!!! And I wouldn't worry about the cheating, if we could diet without cheating then we wouldn't need the surgery.

If insurance needs more information is that good or bad?
MaddieJ replied to MaddieJ's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thanks! I think I will do that. I think it's better that I call the insurance office back tomorrow because when I called them yesterday I had just come back from the dentist office and was HIGHLY medicated! I barely remember the conversation. I would not have normally called them but the meds the dentist gave me made me high as a kite. I also called the surgeons office too. Apparently drugs make me more impatient! -
If insurance needs more information is that good or bad?

I have blue cross blue shield of Texas. I have a lap band and am wanting a revision. I called the insurance company to see how long it would take to process my approval and they told me that they had already reviewed my case and they needed more information about my band from the doctors office. My band has not slipped and is working- just not effective. I'm really worried they are going to deny me. Has anyone had a similar experience? Or anyone just wanna guess if asking for for info is good or bad? -
OMG!!!!! You just totally relieved a lot of my stress. I think I'll be able to sleep tonight!!! I was having insomnia because I am worried I won't qualify. I have BCBS Texas too and my BMI is 36. I have sleep apnea and hypertension. So after reading your post- I think I may have a good chance! They will be submitting it this week (I hope). I have a lap band and want the sleeve revision. The lap band was a total failure and I've had it for 8 years....I'm ready for the dang thing to be removed! Hope all goes well with your surgery and thank you for sharing- it really made me feel better. Congratulations!!!

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
MaddieJ replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a lap band and I told the people I worked with at that time then changed jobs and never told them because the band was a huge failure. Now I want the sleeve revision and I am still friends with the people that don't know that I have the lap band. I'm kinda wondering how I should handle it too (if I get approved for the revision). I'm thinking that I'll just tell people that I want to tell- I don't mind telling anyone as long as the surgery works! -
Nervous about insurance appoval with a 36 BMI
MaddieJ posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am really nervous about my doctor submitting my info to the insurance company this week. My BMI is 36 and I have sleep apnea and hypertension. I have blue cross blue shield insurance. Has anyone else gotten approval with a BMI under 40 and 2 co-morbidities?
