Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
MaddieJ replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you had some good results from your band even if out didn't last. I lost 25 pounds and that was it. The band is a complete waste! I'm curious what you weighed prior to the band. -
I'm from (east of) Dallas Texas and I'm having my surgery at Doctors Hospital.

Take care and keep us updated! I'm 5'2" 185. My surgery date is July 16th, I'm having a revision. And I'm a nurse too. I am so excited and scared! Hope you heal fast! -

11th day ofpost of and incisions
MaddieJ replied to abba0604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I wouldn't be worried but; 1. Call your doc when the office is open 2. If you run a temp greater than 100 go to the ER. 3. Mark the redness and date and time it, if it spreads or starts to have a fowl odor or drainage then call the doc or go to the er. 4. Clean it twice a day with Hibiclens. It's about $6 at Wal-Mart. It's a soap that kills all the bad bacteria. More than likely the doc wouldn't do anything but without being able to feel it myself I can't be sure of that. Occasionaly incisions get pockets of infection under them and you can feel it so your doc will check for that and if it's okay then he may not do anything for it or he may give you some antibiotics if he thinks it's infected. The only bad thing about it being separated is that you will have a bigger scar. -

I don't like that it's red on the edges and that they aren't approximated (together). Is that yellow in the center? And be sure to check your temp for a fever. Is there any drainage? -

Yes, everyone is different and will heal at a different speed... but 10-14 days is average and you'll be fine. Contact your doc if there is any: oozing, fowl odor, redness, separation, swelling or heat. You should probably have some discharge papers that review what parameters the doctor wants to be called. Good luck and congrats on your surgery...I can't wait! -

I'm sorry you got moved, but welcome!

I love the idea of a food funeral. I did that with cigarettes when I quit smoking- it was very emotional. I'm excited and nervous too! I'm scheduled for the 16th.

I think your problem is the fact that she's plus size too. My surgeon told us (in a group meeting) that "you will find out who your real friends are". But my personal opinion is that your friend will be angry with you for a long while- give her time to grieve over the loss over you as she knows you. You are changing who your are and she will need time to adjust to your transition. Once she she's that you will still be her friend once your thin then she will hopefully come around, but it could be a while.

lap band to sleeve anyone?
MaddieJ replied to Hynita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I HATE MY BAND! I had it done 8 years ago and it has never worked right! I believe the band is a worthless surgery. I can have all the restriction in the world and all that happens is restriction while you're starving surrounded by food. Praise God I get mine out and sleeved soon! Good luck to you! -
pre op liquid diet day 1 sucks big fat gonads
MaddieJ replied to newlife27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my sucky lap band surgery I had to do a 500cal liquid diet for a week prior to surgery. I am a nurse....I REALLY need my brain to work correctly at work. Well my brain does not work on only 500 calories of liquid! I was giving a new medication (via injection) and I read the dosage instructions 5 times and still managed to give the wrong dose. Fortunately it was just a hormone injection and it didn't hurt the patient! But this time I will be drinking 1500 calories on the days I work while I'm on my liquid diet. So the moral of my long story is to be careful while you're on your liquid diet... your brain is used to more calories! -

Anyone with 180 pounds doing the sleeve?
MaddieJ replied to bashmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have fought my weight my whole life and I can only do so much without physical help. I am so glad you are getting help while your son is young- I wish I had this done before I inflicted my bad eating habits onto my children! Good luck and I hope all goes well on the 9th...that is soon! I bet you are super excited! -
Anyone with 180 pounds doing the sleeve?
MaddieJ replied to bashmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'1" and 185 and I am getting sleeved on July 16th. I can't seem to loose more than 15pounds and I can't keep that off more than a few months at a time. I have lower back problems, SEVERE sleep apnea and hypertension. My sister died at 24, she was 450+lbs, her sleep apnea caused her heart to enlarge and cause a heart attack in her sleep. Her autopsy showed all of that and the final cause of death was: morbid obesity. I don't want to die and my family have to have an autopsy done because they don't know what caused my death, I don't want to die young, and I don't want my health to deteriorate sooner than it should. I am having this surgery and I believe it's the right thing to do!!!! -
How do I tell my children?
MaddieJ replied to Goddardgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my children that I am having trouble with my stomach and they are going to have to do surgery so I asked the doctor to go ahead and do the weight loss surgery too.... they understood and are excited for me. -
You look happier and younger!
