    chewing gum

Oh light blue touch paper and stand well back! People will say no in case you swallow it. But my surgeon said no because when you start to chew, it sets your stomach off believing food is coming. If you then don't eat, there's acid that goes unused in your stomach and then you may get indigestion, reflux etc. You will get lots of people saying they do it and its fine. I just went with doc's advice as what he said made sense.... Good luck with "to chew or not to chew" lol!!!!

How Do You Beat the Cold?

Layers - I am surviving only by wearing layers of clothes, day and night. And it's not even that cold here yet! I am also very attached to my scarves now.... If I don't have one on, I really get chilly. I have one for every outfit except my jammies! But that's ok, then I have them on, I wear my furry booties, so all is toastie :-))))))
  3. You are a winner, Karen!!!!! You have proved you are never too old to do this - and it's never too late to do it. I wish you continued success - you'll be under 200 in no time at all ))))

    Sad !

It's all normal, keep breathing! Stick with the plan - get all your liquids in, get your Protein in and keep moving. As Kaysosa says, less is not more. Don't feel you need to do something to make something happen - your body is adjusting and responding to its new life. You just need to stay on course, doing as you were told by your doc and it will all come right. And don't get obsessed by the scale. Even when you aren't losing lbs, you may be losing inches - strange but true! Unlikely to be the last stall you have so staying calm is the best attitude... Hang in there!
  5. Julie, can I suggest you start a new thread with your question and you will get lots of responses ...it will get a little bit lost here :-)
  6. ... and when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly... on our broomsticks. We're flexible like that." Lmao when I read this - and, yes, it works for me ????
  7. Well, 9 month check today and my dietician declared me to be no longer overweight - I am now officially NORMAL! Hooray! I started as morbidly obese (at a BMI of 41, too much for a 5'2" tiddler), then I was obese, then overweight - and finally normal... Such a small word, what a big impact :-)))))))
  8. Fantastic news... 182lbs gone! And only 5-15lbs left to go... You are a fabulous success, RJ!!!!! I hope you feel everything you have gone through has been worth it for getting to where you are today. Your hubby better watch out once you have had the plastics ))))) x
  9. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt - if he was fine before, then maybe the closer it gets to your surgery date, he's probably getting scared for you. It's hard to watch someone undergo this, he may just feel helpless. He may be scared you'll change and not want him any more... But you've come the right place to find people on your side If this really matters to you, don't get down about the lack of support, use it to fire you up. You have decided to do this for you and you can do it with or without anyone else's support. Only you can make the surgery a success, not your husband, mum or sister. But they can distract you, weaken your focus. Don't let anyone do that to you now that you have come this far. You deserve better. Keep posting here, you will get support and strength from the community on here. Hang in there, don't give up - or give in!

    loose skin after 50

Sadly, yes. Am 52 and my skin is getting looser even now that my weight loss has slowed down. Was going to have breast reduction but now considering lower body lift. No amount of exercise is gong to make it spring back, lol!

    Surgery is tomorrow!

Your new life will amaze you :-) Attitude is important and I think you have the right attitude to be successful. My nut said I was a compliant patient - I followed the plan to the letter - that worked for me and helped me change my habits in a way I didn't anticipate. I now have a lifestyle that suits me, one that I can live with and work with. Good luck tomorrow, keep posting so we know how you are doing.

    Surgery is tomorrow!

Ok, deep breath, lol! You sound pretty organised so that's a good start. I hate being sick, that was my fear. But I haven't been sick once in the 9 months since my surgery. Stick to what you're asked to do when you are asked to do it and you won't go far wrong. Pain is pretty manageable too... First priority post op - sipping Water, morning noon and night. Then getting your Protein in, although that is less important in the first week or so. Your stomach will be numb and swollen so don't force anything down. If you have to take anti-acid meds, take them - acid in your new stomach can mimic hunger. Finally, keep moving. It helps with any gas issues and it also helps with constipation.... What comes next is different from any other diet experience you may have had (like you, I had tried every diet....) - but the results are also unlike anything else I have tried. Hopefully, you've done your last diet, the new normal is fantastic! I wish you well!!!!

    Recovery/ Time off

I had four weeks off. Felt well after 2 weeks but I would have been tired if I had gone back before then. The extra two weeks let me get to grips with the purée stage and really feeling like myself again...

Just for the fun of it......

It was literally eating cauliflower as the basis for lunch, dinner and Snacks raw. It's low carb, high in Vitamins (if you don't boil it to death) but the worlds most boring diet... How many variations of cauliflower can you think of??? But it wasn't a proper balanced diet... Didn't last long, the flatulence was foul, ha ha ha !!!!!

Just for the fun of it......

I don't think I can top the pregnant women's urine, speed and 500 cal diet, lol! But have done the cauliflower diet (never again, thank goodness, it played havoc with my insides) - so glad I won't have to do any of this ever again.....
  25. Very thought provoking article. While I understand some of the comments about singles/ people in bad relationships etc, as one of those people whose life has been horrendous in recent years (I am currently getting divorced after a bad ending to a long marriage), I want to read stuff like this. It is one person's opinion, that I can take or leave. I take ownership for all of my actions - even the ones that may put me in a bad light. All that I take from this kind of article is that if and when I do find a healthy new relationship, this may put my relationship with food in a new perspective. I am not taking it as a slight to me or that it is making me less of a person because it doesn't currently apply to me. Nor does it make me want to rush out and have an inappropriate or risky relationship But maybe that's just me, everyone is different. But please don't stop posting articles like this just because it doesn't apply to everyone.... articles can't be written with everyone in mind every time. I hope it will apply to me in future.... For now, lets not beat the article to death with caveats about "irresponsible sex can lead to pregnancy"etc. We are all grownups, reading this article isn't going to make me rush off and act out of character...
