My latest nsv happened a couple of days ago flying from New Orleans to Atlanta before flying home to the UK - and fitting in the seat to the extent that my arms were inside the armrests! I wasn't anywhere near the man next to me. Whoo hoo! And, despite the heat in NO, it was my first holiday where I wasn't a greasy blob for the duration. Another whoo hoo!

So pleased for you! It's this kind of thing that makes all the hard work worthwhile. Well done, hope you have more moments like this :-) -
What to expect the first week?
Indigo1991 replied to lalalisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Factor in age too. I admire those who head back to work after a week or so, but at 51 I couldn't have done that. So I took all the holidays I could - four weeks - and felt really well by the end of that. By that stage I was eating soft food too, so felt I was into a routine with my eating that I was comfortable with. -
Low calories-slow weight loss
Indigo1991 replied to kim0079's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to get your Water intake up. My nurse said that it helps with weight loss. You are doing well, don't get too despondent, the weight will start to come off :-)))) -
But you aren't saying goodbye to all food forever. Sure, there's a period of liquid, purees, mushies etc but the plan is that you do go back to solid food after that. Hopefully by then, after all the effort you've put in, the weight you've lost and how well you feel, you will make better choices... If you say "never" to things, they immediately become tempting. So just say "see you later" to food for now... I was an overeater and food was at the centre of everything I did. Not now. 7 weeks out, I feel food is now part of my life but it's not in charge. Can't explain why I am not craving my old foods, maybe because I feel well, my health is great and I look better every day :-)))) but I don't want to jeopardize any of that. Good luck with pre op, surgery and post op. Hope you post to let us know how you are once you are sleeved!

Think of it as 26lbs you won't ever need to lose again :-))))) -
woman died from stuffing her esophagus with food.
Indigo1991 replied to taurabird's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Why is this person getting attention when she did it to herself? As a warning to us that what you think couldn't be possible is? Because she was a human being who, irrespective of what others might think, didn't deserve to die like this? Every one of us who has wls deserves respect and not to be judged. Some in the thin community have the same attitude - u did this to urself, so you don't deserve sympathy. Let's not do that to each other. -
It's not necessarily going to be easy - but it will be worth it to tbe healthier and happier! Good luck in 53 hours time :-))))

What to expect the first week?
Indigo1991 replied to lalalisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week was a roller coaster ride.Unexpectly, had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic first day, which kept me in bed, but once that passed, things got better. Didnt need too much pain meds or nausea meds. Once I got home, had to sleep pretty much upright for the first week, was a bit slow on my feet and I was tired. My speciality was falling asleep at any time, which I didn't do before or since. Day 3 I cried (your hormones can be as shocked as your body after most of your stomach is removed), wondered what the hell i had done to myself. Day 4 I was delighted that I had had the surgery.... Day 4, managed to get a good percentage of my liquids in. Day 5, put my face on and felt a lot more like me. For me, week 1 was the hardest because it was a shock. No matter how much research you do and how much you hear from others, I am not sure that you can fully comprehend how different life will be. I. Week 1 made me realise just how little I needed to be satisfied in terms of food - and that's when I fully understood the extent of the change to my life. Would I go through week 1 again - would hate to, but I would if it got me to where I am now, 7 weeks out and healthier and happier than I have been in years. Best of luck to you if/when you have the surgery. Remember, no matter what week 1 feels like, this too will pass... -
Am in NO for a few days, almost 7 weeks out from surgery, and looking for suggestions if you live locally for restaurants/cafes where I can eat without worrying too much. Staying in the French Quarter but mobile. Thanks x

Made it to the Gumbo Shop as suggested - fantastic! Had chicken, mash and corn that was so tasty I was tempted to eat too much - but I didn't :-) Have also walked a fair bit despite the heat and haven't felt tired out. So a great trip to NO, the people have been great, have enjoyed the food and loved the music. Off home to Scotland on Sunday but I will be back and by then I hope to be able to eat more of the food, even a bite or two of a beignet :-)))) Thanks for all the tips and advice.

Please Tell Me This is Normal
Indigo1991 replied to Iniysa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are right to contact nurse. Right shoulder pain can also be associated with a gall bladder problem that can occur after surgery. But it could also just be part of your body recovering. Let us know how you are once you have spoken to the nurse. -
Thanks all. Luckily I like fish and can eat pretty much any of it. DonRodolfo, you are speaking to the woman who was in Cafe du Monde yesterday - and had a glass of milk, but no beignets!!! I am sure the people around me thought I was some kind of weird stalker as I watched them, drooling, while they tucked in :-( But as I put my my new top on tonight, three sizes smaller than 2 months ago, I forgot all about those tempting beignets - almost :-)))))

Newat52, won't tell a soul! And Grumpy Who Dat, I have noticed how good the food is and what I would have loved to eat in the past.... Good luck, lol! Thanks to you both :-)
-
Denn, my nutrionist told me not to drink less than 30 mins before I eat... Some drs say an hour before. That might help you when it comes to time to eat. Good luck!

Just home from shopping trip for sandals. Walked into shop, picked a style, tried the left foot on and was very happy with the look. Asked the assistant if I could try on a pair... She went off to get the other shoe and came back very apologetically saying "we only have wide fitting left, sorry, but I can order you a regular fit" ..... She has no idea why I left smiling despite not getting my shoes. Having had "wide" feet for 30 years, this is the first time anyone has looked at me and judged that I must have "normal" feet... Whoo hoo!!!!!!

Feet officially normal...

If my friend tells me one more time how much weight she thinks I have lost off my face, I will scream. I have lost 25lbs since op six weeks ago and 17lbs prior to that, a grand total of three stones, with the same again to go. I am delighted. But every time we meet, she only comments on how well I am doing by referencing how thin my face is....but never mentions the fact that I am 3-4 clothes sizes smaller! I am close to shouting at her next time IT CAN'T ALL HAVE COME OFF MY FACE!!! Then she goes on about her need to lose 8lbs... maybe I should comment "if that's going to come off your face, how much are you aiming for off your body?" but I don't think she'd get the irony :-((((( Thanks for listening....

Couldn't agree more - it's a baby not weight gain. Grrrrrr! Ha ha
-
Thanks, was beginning to think I was being overly sensitive As a 50 something don't want my face to collapse and I am never sure if that's what she's hinting at... However, as can sometimes be the case, if I behaved like this to her, she would get really upset. Oh well, seeing her tomorrow to get a face update, lol.

Phase 3 (Pureed stage) grocery list help!
Indigo1991 replied to christymrod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Casseroled chicken and veg in gravy in oven to keep it moist - then blended. Cooked smoked fish in milk - then blended Tuna with a squirt of low fat mayo - then blended Some people can cook very lean meat then blend with gravy to get a purée but my sleeve was less keen on this.... Can you see the pattern :-)))) ? Use milk, gravy etc to purée your Protein. You are aiming for baby food/yogurt consistency but try to make sure you have some flavour or you will be bored to death.... You can also purée fruit if you want a little something sweet. Even when eating puree, still chew, chew, chew! Good luck! -
sleeved May 1st! It's been five weeks..slow loser :-(
Indigo1991 replied to oldskoolsooz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you are doing well! I am six weeks out later this week and the same height as you, started at 207 with 2 official comorbidities (and high blood pressure/cholestrol coming over the horizon). I have lost 25lbs, with around 40 to go. It's not as much as others sleeved the same day as me, but I am not thinking of this as slow weight loss because I am now one comorbidity down and a second much reduced, with BP down and normal cholesterol. :-) I am also losing inches and am down 3-4 sizes in clothes. I am trying to keep it all in perspective - this isn't a quick solution, I signed up for the long haul and know I have to be patient... I am pleased you are feeling better and that things are improving. Hope the doc / nutrionist can help with the hunger! x
