  1. Are NSAIDS allowed after surgery. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op. I had a torn meniscus injury in my left knee prior to surgery and the anti-inflamatory NSAIDS helped with the pain and swelling before surgery. I had to stop taking them 3 weeks pre-op. Now, even with 34 pounds gone, I'm noticing increased swelling, pain and limping again. Have other people taken Non Steroid Anti Inflamatories post surgery?

loosening a alot of hair. ..

I slacked on my Protein intake for about a month and a half and started losing hair like crazy! I got back on making Protein shakes for Breakfast every morning and the hair loss slowed drastically. I make a chocolate Peanut Butter shake every morning with skim milk. Choc Protein powder from body fortress =30g protein per scoop. Then I add 2 tbsp PB2 ( a phenomenal powdered peanut with 85%less fat and sugar than regular PB) =5 G protein. And the organic skim milk 1c=9g. I add a couple of cubes of ice to keep it cold cause it takes me a long time to get it all down. So I'm getting 44g of protein before 11 am every day. Now I'm losing hair at about the same rate I was before surgery. I'm so relieved. My husband and a few close friends started noticing the hair loss and I started to really freak and get depressed. Oh... Before I forget.... I also add milled/ground flax seed with my Protein Shake in the blenders in the morning, which has great Omega 3, helps promote healthy hair growth and helps add shine back into your hair also. The flaxseed must be ground because otherwise the hard casing prevents it from being digested and the good stuff doesn't get absorbed. Side benefits since I've added flaxseed into the diet: my nails are MUCH stronger, I'm more regular with bowel activity (since surgery I have had regularity issues), and my cycles are more regular now. I'm 7 months out and have lost 99 lbs. only 1 pound to go to hit my short term goal of 100 before 2014 arrives. More to lose after that, but right now, I'm only concentrating on that 1 pound. Good luck and hang in there! Hope this info helps. Please consider upping your protein intake and adding flaxseed into your daily routine. I have found it to really help.
  3. I bought the Celebrate bari chewable vitamins for after surgery, and they made me nauseated. It didn't matter what time of day I took them, on an empty or with food in my stomach... I always got this nauseated feeling and increased saliva production. 3 times I vomited and I said enough was enough. I switched to One A Day Gummy vitamins. They aren't "bari" vitamins, but at least I'm getting something in and I feel better.
  4. I've put a call into my surgeons office complete with medication name, dosage and frequency. I haven't heard back yet. fingers crossed.
  5. Any suggestions for the very best apps I can use to find nutritional info on foods while I'm on the go?

    Day 10 post op...

Sorry to hear it. I hope things will get better for you. I was sleeved on the 8th and before surgery I thought I could return to work a week later. I have had lots of dizziness, weakness etc and wasn't able to return. I will go back to work too Monday. It has been a rough 9 and 10 days for us. Lets just keep saying to ourselves water, water, water, protein, protein, protein. I saw my MD today and he upgraded me to soft diet. He told me this is the roughest part and about week 4 the light will just turn on for my body and it will flip the switch and it will get much easier. Hang in there.
  7. I was sleeved May 8th, hospital course was normal with only an overnight stay. I am now 5 days out and feeling VERY weak and dizzy when I get up. I've been getting fluids in and started full liquids with Protein powder yesterday. My urine is NOT concentrated, but yesterday I started having watery diarrhea and it still hasn't stopped. (But the dizziness started well before the diarrhea.) I'm due to return to work Wednesday but am concerned about being so dizzy with the amount of walking my job requires. Thoughts, suggestions? Is this normal????
  8. Thank you all. Just to answer a few questions posted. I stopped taking pain meds Saturday because I felt it could be contributing to my dizziness. In addition, my pain level wasn't really that high any more, so I felt it was the right time to let that go. I have never been diagnosed with hypertension, so I'm not on anything to control my BP, but I can see how that would be a significant issue for those with HTN post surgically. Orthostatic HTN is possible for anyone, really, so I will test my BP as I stand. I work in The Texas Medical Center, so I can easily investigate that. Thank you for all your advice. I'm calling the MD office this afternoon to let them know. Today my mission will be Protein and fluids. At this point I don't think I will be able to return to work Wednesday, but I wont make that decision for sure until tomorrow. The demands of my job require me to be able to walk between 2-5 miles on any given day in the Medical Center, walking in the Houston heat from hospital to hospital all day long. Thank you all! Fingers crossed!
