    Sleeve vs. Gastric Bypass

Hi- I was planning on having the sleeve all along until I met w/ my surgeon. My surgeon said that b/c my GERD (acid reflux) is so severe, I would have to undergo further testing before he would feel comfortable doing the sleeve. The problem is that one of those tests requires me to be off my acid reflux meds for 10 days (during which time they measure my acid production). As i told the surgeon, I truly feel i cannot do this. In light of this, the surgeon suggested i have a Roux-en-Y, which would not only serve as weight loss surgery, but would cure my GERD (some have said this is true & yet others have said the bypass can cause / worsen GERD to add to my confusion). Wondering if anyone else has been presented w/ this problem, and further, if anyone has chosen bypass over the sleeve specifically b/c of their GERD severity. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  2. Hi, wondering if anyone has had the sleeve surgery & a Nissan Fundoplication (for hiatal hernia) at the same time? I suspect I have a hiatal hernia & I'm close to my surgery date. I'm just worried that my surgeon is going to make me have the Nissan first and separately and THEN do the sleeve....ugh......Thanks in advance for any info..

    hair loss

Regarding losing hair....someone told me to use Rogain. The person told me that it won't grow new hair but will slow down or possibly stop the loss of the hair you already have. Has anyone tried it? Thanks.
  4. Hi - I have something that I'm not clear about. They say you must have a min. BMI of 35 to have the VSG. However between the prescribed weight loss (8-10 lbs.) & the weight I will lose on the re-surg liquid diet, I will be well under a BMI of 35. Will this cause any problems or does it just matter that I was a BMI of 37 when I started the whole process? Thanks for any feedback !!
  5. Hi, i have not had my sleeve surgery yet, but from what the nutritionist told me, getting enough after surgery is a big deal. I did some research and found some protein pills (sold in vitamin section) that contain varying amounts of pure protein. I'm wondering if anyone has used these post-surg to supplement their diet?
  6. Hi, I am a stay at home mom to 3 y.o. twin boys (Very active). Are there any moms of young children out there who have had the sleeve & are stay at home moms who could advise me as to when I will be "ready to go" post surgery in terms of taking care of the twins, the house, etc. Thanks in advance for any advice !

below BMI of 35 @ time of surgery

thanks so much for your reply. While I'm writing I thought I might ask another question....when i have the surgery my husband is taking 3 days off, hopefull leading into a weekend, so I'll have 5 days to rest. After that however, I am on my own in caring for our 3 y.o. twins. I am being unrealistic in thinking i can do that? My mom was scheduled to come but she was in an accident & broke her pelvis, so that's out. any thoughts? Thanks in advance !!
