    First Options Class

Hi! It's so nice to hear from fellow Kaiser patients! They did tell us the same thing re exercise in my class. I took my class at the end of last year at Baldwin Park Kaiser. I finished the class 12/3/12. They called me for my surgery consult within a week. I wasn't ready. I was still deciding if it was right for me. I set my surgeon appt for 1/18/13. I rec'd 2-3 calls from the surgery scheduler before I finally decided it was the best decision for me. I had my surgery last week (6/4) at Kaiser West L.A. My surgeon was Dr Casillas. Wonderful and kind, as were all the staff. Best of luck to all of you embarking on this journey!

Awesome job! Lol. I think I'd have done the same thing. Have someone else check. Or readjust my glasses! Lol.

Not sure if I did the quotes right?!?! But, Wow! Your face looks so much thinner in just 6 days! Great job!
  4. Wow! I'd be confused, too! I'm with Ms. Antiband. Tell them you're confused. It seems like they should be on the same page. Good luck!

    So sleepy!

The pre-surgery info I got said to expect this. So I wasn't too surprised when I started to feel tired from barely doing anything. I just listen to my body. If it says sleep (and it does a lot), I sleep. Even if only for half an hour. Your body has been though a lot. Listen to it.

    Pain medication

Oh, I used mine. I got liquid Tylenol with Oxycodone. Tasted awful so I mixed it with my crystal light just to get it down. It took me a half hour to get the Tbls. down, so I would start early and be done by the time it was time to take it again. It really helped at night. My mom (also an RN-Retired) kept telling me before I even went in for surgery not to be a hero. Take it if you need it. The night of my surgery, I ended up with a migraine about 8pm. They couldn't give me anything for it (nothing by mouth). I even asked for an injection of Imitrex but the RN explained to me why they couldn't. Don't remember the reason (was in a drugged fog). So I kept pushing my pain med button for more of that, hoping it would help. 8am the next morning, still with migraine, one of the RN's tells me that the pain meds can cause migraines. That might have been useful info the night before. Lol! Once I tolerated the sips of H20, I was able to take my beloved Imitrex. It did the trick. So, no, I'm no hero. I laugh just picturing what I must have looked/sounded like to the very sweet RN that night. I'm walking the halls, migraine, ready to puke, dry heaving, begging for drugs! Just shoot me up, man!!

I'm on day 5 and doing well. I'm so glad I'm off that Isopure. Ugh! It tasted ok, but the heartburn was insane! I'm back to my Protein shakes. I use Pure Protein. The 1st time I had some veggie broth (I'm a vegetarian) I wanted to cry, it tasted so good. I made some sugar free chocolate pudding w/ almond milk. Didn't set up the best, but it's GOOD! I'm also able to tolerate the Butternut Squash Soup from Trader Joe's. I've been introducing one new thing at a time to see what I don't tolerate. So far, so good. I feel like my full time job is making sure I get all my fluids in. Sip, sip, sip, sip. Yesterday was my best day so far. I got all the protein (60g) and 54oz of fluids (supposed to do 64oz). Every day seems a little better. Well, I better get another walk in. Take care and blessings to all who have surgery tomorrow! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

    June 2013 Sleevers GROUP

Hi all! Was sleeved Tues 06/04. Doing Well. Hospital staff and surgeon were wonderful. In some discomfort from incisions. My main problem is the heartburn. I never had it in my life, but boy am I making up for lost time! My bariatric RN called to check on me today and she said that the Isopure causes the heartburn. I only have one more day on that, then my Protein shakes. So I can tough it out! It is hard to get down all that liquid! Blessings to all my sleeve siblings!

Well, the time has come. I'm leaving for the hospital in a bit. Nervous and excited. I don't have a smart phone, so can't keep in touch while in hospital. Will keep you posted when I get home tomorrow. Best wishes to all for a problem free surgery and a speedy recovery!
  11. My surgeon said that anything smaller than an M&M would be fine. But I don't know of any Vitamins that small! I got a chewable multi Vitamin at Trader Joes (the one with extra minerals) and a sublingual B12 but the Calcium I couldn't find any other form so I will just have to crush them and add to liquid/food. I never asked, but I just assumed it was because our stomachs will be so much smaller. That's why we have to start slowly with food. Clear liquids, then full liquids, then soft foods, etc. I would just verify with your surgeon to be sure. I'm pre-op, too with surgery scheduled for June 4th! Best of luck to you!

    Before Pics: June 2013

Hey fellow sleeve siblings! Wow. Pics. I usually try to avoid them at all cost. But I think I should take a before pic just to see my progress. Also take measurements for those slow losing periods. My sister is coming to town to take me to the hospital for surgery Tues 06/04. I can have her take one on my phone. I just have to figure out how to get it off my phone to other places (here, photo for fridge, etc.) Tech savvy I am NOT! I actually went out today and got 15+ inches cut off my hair (donated to locks of love). I feel like I lost 5 lbs. in hair alone! Best of luck to all "Junies". June 4th is almost here! Nervous and excited!

    June 2013 Sleevers GROUP

Hi fellow June Sleevers! I had my pre-op appts on Mon., May 20th. All went well. I'm all set for June 4th! I was very surprised to learn I did not have to do a liquid pre-op diet. My surgeon never mentioned it and I keep hearing about it on this board, so I asked him about it. He said, no. Just keep doing what I'm doing. Don't go on any binges, etc. I was very excited about that. The only "problem" I had was when when I did my labs. I got my blood drawn and I was in the hall about ready to get on the elevator when I felt something wet on my arm. I looked down and my arm was gushing blood. There was a bathroom right there so I stepped in and washed my arm off and put pressure on it. It reminded me of those old SNL skits where Dan Ackroyd plays Julia Child and keeps cutting himself and blood squirts everywhere! Anyway, I was able to stop the bleeding and all is well. I was just worried because I had a few more stops and didn't want to gross anyone out if it started up again! I think it finally hit me when I had to sign my life away in pre-admitting. Wow, I'm really having surgery! Best of luck to us all and may our road to recovery be a speedy one!

    Any Catholics in the crowd?

HI All! I'm new to this site and just found these support groups. How awesome. I'm scheduled for surgery on 06/04/13 at Kaiser West Los Angeles by Dr. Casillas. I have my pre-op appt 05/20. I've gained some weight, so I'm trying to lose what I gained and then some before my pre-op appt. I'm a sacristan at my church and I am scheduled for duty 5 days after my surgery. I don't think it should be a problem, but time will tell. If I feel I need a replacement, I can let them know by Friday. May God bless each of our journies.

Hi all! I'm scheduled for 06/04/13 at Kaiser West L.A. with Dr. Casillas. My pre-op visit is scheduled for 05/20/13. I've actually gained some weight since my last visit with him, so I have 3 weeks to lose what I gained and hopefully more to avoid the "lecture". lol. Best of luck to all!
  18. Hello all! My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday 06/04/13 at Kaiser West L.A. with Dr Casillas. I have my pre-op appt 05/20/13. the final countdown...

Good luck! I understand about your list not getting done. I had a long list of things to get done this weekend and maybe 20% got done. I do have tomorrow!! I can only imagine the list prior to surgery (mine is scheduled for 06/04/13). Best of luck and keep us posted!

    Hello! I'm new.

Hi Julia! I'm new here, too. I'm in the Los Angeles area and have a surgery date scheduled for 06/04/13. There's a lot of great information on this site. I had been doing Weight Watchers for awhile and lost 70lbs. I had gone to see my primary care Dr. for a routine check-up. 2 weeks later I went back for a follow-up. I was very excited because I had lost 10lbs in those 2 weeks. I had visions of my Dr. being very excited and proud. Well, not only did she not mention the 10lb weight loss, but she said that I should have WLS. I'm with Kaiser and we have the options classes. I told her I would really like to continue trying on my own, but I would do the classes in the meantime. After a few months, I realized I was stuck at that weight loss. Even gained a few back. After much prayer and soul searching, I decided to go through with the surgery. I believe it's the best decision for me. Best of luck to you on your journey and welcome to this wonderful, supportive site.
