It sounds like it's probably just heartburn. I know I dealt with that right after surgery. I came home with an rx for prilosec and am supposed to take it for 6 months (i'm 4.5 months out). I also found out the Isopure I was using in the clear liquid phase causes heartburn according to my RN, it did ease up once I was off that. Best of luck to you!

I think you just need to pay attention to how you feel. 2 cups sounds like a lot to me, though. I had surgery June 4th, so, I'm almost 2 months out. I am eating 1/2 cup-1 cup at most. One of my favorites is 1/2 c. ricotta cheese with about 2 tbls pasta sauce (got recipe on this site!) heat in microwave a few seconds. Then I sprinkle a little parm. cheese on top. It's so good and great on protein (1/2 c. ricotta is 14g.) Tastes like your eating a lasagna without the pasta! Just listen to your body. You will definately know if you are eating too much. I've taken that one or two extra bites a few times and it is very uncomfortable. I'm finally getting the hang of portions. I am using small baby plates and I still can't fill it up because it's WAY too much! I had once made a salad, very healthy, etc. but I put it on this baby plate and it was maybe 5-6 meals for me. Good luck on your journey!

I see my Dr on Wed and I will be asking her about increasing the protein. I am tall, too, and no one has ever mentioned it before. Thanks for the info!

What a difference a year makes
prayergirl replied to JerseyGirl68's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Beautiful post! Congratulations on your success! -
If I may ask, how are you getting in 1000 cal. ? What foods are you eating? The max I seem to be getting in is 475-500. I'm just curious because I'm nowhere near that. I see my Dr. Wednesday, so I'll ask her, too.

My NSV today at the doctor's office
prayergirl replied to DonRodolfo's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations! What a great feeling! I had a similiar experience when I was in an office and noticed that I fit in the chairs now. I used to be bursting at the seams! I actually thought they got BIGGER chairs, but then I realized they were the same OLD chairs and I just started laughing. I think a few people thought I was NUTS! -

Problems drinking water...
prayergirl replied to itsabouttime2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for posting this. It makes it easier to understand, now. I, too, am having trouble with plain water. I'm 4 weeks out. I have just been adding Crystal Light, or drinking Crystal Light iced tea or pink lemonade to get my fluids in. -
I had mine 1 week before surgery and then again 4 days after! I think it's pretty normal to be abnormal!

If a bad reaction to food is going to happen....
prayergirl replied to DallasSleeve's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My only "non-normal" reaction to any food thus far has been to refried beans. I didn't eat much, but I could tell fairly quickly it just wasn't settling right. It wasn't horrible. My tummy was just a one woman orchestra! And I was VERY gassy! So I decided to not try that again for awhile. Everything else has been fine. I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow. Good luck! -
Sleeved June 18th!
prayergirl replied to Brian Randolph's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved June 4th. This past week was my first experience post-surgery eating out. I wasn't looking forward to it! I looked up the menu online, it was a mexican place, and saw they had a side of veggies. I had tried refried Beans previously and they didn't settle well. Not bad, just uncomfortable and GASSY!! So I planned ahead to get the veggies. I ended up having a great time. I had a Protein shake about 2 hours before at home. I didn't even miss the chips/salsa. Everyone was munching on those and I was fine. Hard to believe! I ate maybe 1/4 of the tiny side plate of veggies and I was full. I took the rest home and had 3-4 more meals off of that tiny side order! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that possible. I can already tell, my grocery bill will be going down, down, down!! Congratulations on your surgery and best of luck to you! -
Sleepless nights...
prayergirl replied to shelly22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first night home was miserable. I got less than an hour of sleep. I would start on my back and then automatically go to my side, which was not comfortable. The next night, I rolled up a pillow, put it by my side and then sort of rolled onto it (kinda like hugging a body pillow). I was half side, half stomach. I almost cried, it was such a relief to be comfortable and be able to get some sleep. From then on I was fine. Best of luck to you! -
May God give you the peace and courage you need. My prayers are with you. I know you'll do great. God bless!

is anyone going to the West Los Angeles Kaiser for their surgery?
prayergirl replied to Someonefab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery at Kaiser West L.A. on June 4th with Dr. Casillas. Great staff! Everyone was extremely nice and caring. I took my Options classes at Kaiser Baldwin Park. I did not lose 10% during the classes, but I had previously just lost 60lbs +/- on Weight Watchers. I lost 10 lbs or so during the classes. I had 1 week where I gained, but I never heard anything negative about it from them. If you complete all your food logs and activity trackers and make sure you don't miss a class, you will sail through smoothly! Best of luck to you! -
Swimming after surgery?
prayergirl replied to LittleDooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to swim after my first post-op appt. He said my incisions were healing nicely. I didn't have stitches, though. He used glue on me. Good luck! -
I'm so happy for all you recent sleevers! Glad you're all doing well. I remember I couldn't wait to get home, too. I had to drink 5 1oz. cups of Water within 2 1/2 hours (I had to take 1/2 hour for each oz)! They wanted to verify I had no issues before they let me go home. I do understand that, but I remember I wanted to cry at the time. 2 1/2 hours!!!??!! I wish you all a speedy and trouble free recovery! To all getting sleeved today. Blessings to you as you embark on your journey!

How much time to take off from work for surgery?
prayergirl replied to pinkowl00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 weeks off. I start back to work on Monday. I think I would have been fine at 2 weeks, but I'm glad I took that extra week. I still don't have all my energy back. It gets better every day, though. I have a pretty active job, so maybe with a desk job 2 weeks may be fine. I've read on here where people went back after 4 days! God bless them, but I couldn't have done that! I would err on the side of caution and ask for more time off. If you don't need it, you don't have to take it. Good luck! -
I had my first post-op visit with my surgeon last Thurs. That was one of my questions. He said I could start taking my regular vitamins now. He did say that I can only swallow something the size of a plain m&m or smaller. So I have been cutting most of them in half and they need to be spaced a few minutes apart. Needless to say, it takes me 1/2 an hour to take all the pills! I would check with your surgeon because they are all different. Good luck to you!
-
I stocked up so I wouldn't have to deal with it right after surgery. chapstick gas-x strips Protein powder Isopure veggie/chicken broth (low sodium) sugar free popsicles sugar free pudding crystal light butternut squash Soup applesauce various Soups (I pureed them on full liquid phase) a few baby foods almond/soy milk I'm sure I missed some things, but this pretty much got me through the first few weeks. Good luck on your journey!

Getting air out after bring freshly sleeved?
prayergirl replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used Gas-X strips that dissolve in your mouth. I think they also have chewables. Sorry you're in so much pain. Hope it gets better soon. -
Each Dr. if different, so I would check with yours. That being said, I will be 3 weeks on Tues. and I am on the soft food stage. My surgeon used glue to seal the incisions and I was able to swim after my first post-op appt (day 9). Best of luck to you!

What you're feeling is perfectly normal. Prayers are definately coming your way!

Where does everyone buy their protein shakes?
prayergirl replied to marfar7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just use Pure Protein and get it at the grocery store (Ralphs) for $18/tub. I saw it at Costco and Sam's club for $24/tub. I use the Vanilla Cream and Chocolate. I like both of them, although, I will say that I notice they taste "different" post-surgery. Not bad, just different. I still like them, but they aren't quite as good as they once were. Best of luck to you!
