  1. Great article! I am 7 weeks out. I am excercising 5 days per week and eating correctly and "doing" all the right stuff however still find myself surfing the refridge for something to eat. I am thinking about food a lot, however am not physcially hungry. During our support group a program call "Mindful eating" was presented and I realized the brain also has adopt this new life style, so over the next 9 week I am starting the retraining program.

    Foods!

Yes refried beans & some shredded cheese. OMG it was like my number one food. The hard part was remembering only 1/4 cup. I stop using the measuring cup and was starting to be effected by it, then one night remeasured and realized I was way off!
  3. So to clarify since my journey began I have lost from 320 to 240 lbs. At the 320 range I had several health issues one of which was sleep apena. I lost like 30 pound and did another sleep test and had my machine adjusted. (still woke at night to urinate, but much better with CPAP.) Since all the fun with presurgery and post surgery I have drop another 40 lbs. And since coming home from the hospital would fall alseep upon hitting the pillow (basically feel alseep before I could put the mask on). However I sleep deeply not waking up or stirring. In the morning, yhep the urge to urinate was there. So at this point until I reschedule for another sleep study I am not using the machine and am not have any of the sleep apena symptoms. I am contact with my doctor who agrees and is waiting to see me get the test. lossing weight and excercise is suppose to best cure for sleep apena, or atleast in my case.

    exercise?

2 weeks post surgery I joined the gym and started elliptical (lol 1 - 2 min for a week and continued to increase time). I also biked for 30 minutes. I did machines low weights (no stomach excercises). (Doctor wasn't happy about that, just in case). I just got cleared for all excercise (6 wks post surgery). I am already up to 15 min on elliptical at a moderate setting and increased the setting on the bike. Starting to add more weight to my program. Because of the surgery I change my routine so I drop my son off at school and go to the gym workout then to work. so far so good!
  5. Ever since surgery (4/1/13) I haven't need my machine. I fall alseep and don't move till the next morning, no more waking up (to urinate) or snoring (confirmed by wife). I plan on seeing the doctor in a couple of months just ensure I don't need it. But gosh it feel great to sleep again! Great and timely question!
  6. I got my sleeve April 1st 2013 and have a cup of coffee in the morning with low fat Half and Half and sweet and low without any problems. Ps yes I cleared from my doctor and nutrianist. I use to have 2 big cups, but am very happy now with about a half a cup, as I am full! Love my morning coffee!

    Who Are You?

So I am 49 year old dad who is married to wonderful wife for over 28. (through thick and thin you might say LOL) We have a 16 year old son who has a neuromuscular desease. Since I was a kid I have been up and down on my weight and for the last few year have creept up to 320 lbs. Call it stress over the job, my son's illness whatever I started having health issues. Type II diabetes, sleep apenea, gout, blood pressure issue etc. About 8 years ago I had both hips replace and got back into "better" shape, but that didn't last long. So for all these reasons I maded the call and set-up an appointment. Figured the worst would be that I won't qualify! So much for that theory. Research all the options and went for the sleeve. Now I don't just jump into this stuff, I started the post surgery diet before seeing the doctor, just to see if was even possible. Of coarse with a large stomach it was challenging but not impossible, however this was going to be a life altering choice. The support I got from family, friends, work, and doctors was amazing. So I had the surgery April 1st, 2013. Wow the 2 weeks of liquids presurgery have been the hardest part, but since the surgery I have been doing great. Oh yes I haven't been perfect, eatting too fast, eating too much etc and paid the price and learned! But overall I am extremely pleased, although running of cloths that fit quickly. I have my 20year old shirts in the back of the closet that now fit again! The entire family found a gym close by and I rearranged my schedule so that I drop my son off and go to the gym then to work. But I also take my son (as he needs assistant) so we work out together which is the best medicine for his illness. Now I am working on the pyschological part and trying to get off the refridgerator's speed dial list, as it's still calling me. Taking it one day at time and enjoying life! Thanks for letting me share my story and look forward to chatting with everybody! norm
