I haven't managed to find any other gold coasters on the forum I also was having doubts last week however than went and spoke about it yet again to my GP and he can't speak highly enough about it.. I really haven't been able to find anything really negative about the sleeve at all...
I'm so happy that you are going to go and see Dr Nolan, he truly is a wonderful surgeon and he explains everything very clearly and very well.
Be warned though be is very straight to to the point and matter of fact, some people may perceive this as arrogant but he by no means is, when my hubby and I visited him for the first time, I must admit I was a little frightened of him (you'll see what I mean ). I had absolutely no problems with him taking my band out, the surgery went great no complications what so ever.. I am extremely happy that i am being looked after by dr Nolan, i'm sure that you will be also My sleeve surgery is 52 more days away (who's counting).

Hi all. First appt with Dr Nolan on the Gold Coast this Thursday. 90% of the time really keen to get started and some days still quite apprehensive. Looking forward to hearing all your good times and bad.

I have an appointment with Dr Nolan this Thursday. Turns out both my GPs wife and son have been sleeved and both are really happy.
Have you found any other GCers to chat to? Interested in having a coffee and a chat? My wife is great and really supportive but would be nice to talk to someone having the same concerns.

You will lose some muscle after surgery but you can build it back and more. I bet you'll be dunking in no time! My husband (fiddleman on VST) can testify that strength training with a personal trainer does pay big dividends after sleeve surgery. He's currently working with a trainer doing crossfit and developing some very nice muscles! . He runs 5-10k's on his off days and also does yoga. Amazing!

The way certain things taste definitely changed for me. It has been a great thing for me though. I used to really hate a lot of vegetables and love the artificial sugary stuff. now I crave vegetables a lot and anything that has a lot of chemicals or artificial flavors tastes terrible. It is pretty great to not like the things that could get me into trouble.

Now you guys, I've been already told by a certain little girl here (via Pm) that I'm too flirty and 6 people agree with her and don't like me...

Hi Brendan, I understand what you say about the permanent nature of the sleeve. That also played with my head before making the decision to go ahead with it.
When I had my lap band I spoke to quite a few people who had the sleeve and lapband. I actually wanted the sleeve to begin with however was talked out of it as my bmi at that stage was not high enough. When my lap band was taken out I was advised by the surgeon that it had been placed in there incorrectly, I had it in there for a year which has caused some issues. So many surgeons are no longer doing lap band surgery because of complications.I also felt oh I should be able to do it myself, i mean seriously, its only losing weight, not brain surgery....but after years of yo yo dieting, know this to be not true... I can't do it myself... I need the tool to help me do it... I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and I'm sick and tired of fighting with my head on a daily basis and I'm sick of tired of always having to think about what diet plan I'm going to try next..... I have done so much research and spoken to so many people and know that I am making the right decision for me
I read about a lady who has a sleeve and she said that the sleeve is just a little tool to remind you to eat less, it's not a diet that you can go off... I can eat whatever I want , I never have to worry about diets, a huge weight has been lifted of my shoulders and when i read that i felt wow that's how I want to feel.
I'd probably suggest that you ring where you went to see the surgeon and ask of you can speak to some of there patients, as to support groups I don't know of any on the GC, yeah speaking to a guy would be really good as you guys are a lot more logical then us emotional women ha ha.. Anyway I really wish you the very very best of luck and whatever decision you make will be the right one for you... Just follow your heart. I'm also on the GC and saw the dietician and psychologist today after deciding to investigate yesterday.
Reading this and other forums I've changed my mind about a dozen times already so I'm not completely there yet.
Who is doing your surgery?
