  1. Congratulations Lissa! I just got back from my dietician appointment with a heavy bag full of Kickstart shakes and Soups. Heavy until I realised it was two weeks worth of food! Getting closer every day.

    Suits after WLS

Fellas, I'm 6 weeks pre-op still and had a terrible thought: I bought a really nice suit when I visited NYC earlier this year (before deciding to be sleeved - I'm in Australia), and I'm fearing I may not get much use out of it now! The jacket is a 50, and the pants 46. Question: anyone had any experience with a tailor taking a suit in A LOT? Is it doable? Cheers, Brendan
  4. Would you guys in Brissie be against the couple of us down on the GC joining your little group? Would be great to meet you all, both pre and post op.
  5. Need your help guys. The rational side of me knows that I need this to improve my life, my health, the example I set for my daughter and her unborn brother/sister, my marriage... The emotional side is messing with me. It's all starting to get real. I have an endoscopy Thursday - no sweat, but it's one step closer to paying my deposit and saying "yes, I am going to be sleeved". I keep thinking that the rest of my life is such a long time. I think about the happy times with family spent at Sizzler lol. I worry that I'm going to have to make such severe changes to my eating that the travel I do for my business, and even the lifestyle I lead while I'm at home is going to be severely compromised. Getting this off my chest helps I guess, but I just need to hear (especially from other guys) that I'm not going to be constantly run down, that I'm going to be able to find something suitable to eat while I'm out and about (in time obviously). I am realistic about this; I know change is necessary, but I'm just struggling to get away from the negative right now. What if I start to feel this way when I AM sleeved? It's too late then.

    July 2013 sleevers

Pencilled in for July 5 today. Can't wait to get things rolling.
  7. You're killing this Misty! Just finished with Dr Nolan. Ordered a blood test and gastroscopy (being thorough). Tentatively booked for July 5. Feeling a little apprehensive again but really can't wait to get this underway. Decision is made now.
  8. Congratulations Misty. And Dean - you're an inspiration to me. Seems our starting weights a d goals are similar. Off to my first appt with Dr Nolan at Southport today. Wish me luck!

    Sports after surgery

Hi all How long have your surgeons indications been for beginning semi contact sports again after surgery? I love playing basketball and don't want to let my team down being out for 8-10 weeks. It may be easier to schedule surgery for the Christmas off season. I also play indoor cricket (for those in the US, imagine having to pitch a baseball and bat repeatedly for 9 innings inside an hour), and wouldn't like to do any damage from that? Any insights? B

    Sports after surgery

Thanks mate. I assume if MMA is OK, basketball will be! Cheers.
  11. Hi all. First appt with Dr Nolan on the Gold Coast this Thursday. 90% of the time really keen to get started and some days still quite apprehensive. Looking forward to hearing all your good times and bad.
  12. Hi again Lily, I have an appointment with Dr Nolan this Thursday. Turns out both my GPs wife and son have been sleeved and both are really happy. Have you found any other GCers to chat to? Interested in having a coffee and a chat? My wife is great and really supportive but would be nice to talk to someone having the same concerns. Brendan
  13. I know this pain too! We won't have to worry soon
  14. I'm looking forward to just being more of an athlete on the basketball court. At 30 years of age and 130kg (286lb) I can almost touch the rim. If my trainer and I can keep the strength in these legs I may just achieve the dream of dunking.

    Tastes change?

I am still considering VSG - 90% decided. I drink protein shakes regularly now, as I go to the gym frequently and play basketball. It has always been overeating that kept me fat. Did everyone's taste change so readily after surgery, or is this only something for a small percentage? I can't imagine all of a sudden not enjoying the flavour of the shakes I drink now.

    July 2013 sleevers

Lily - I went to bed last night (more like 2am) absolutely having talked myself out of it. Going to try something else that I've tried before again but this time "not give up". I know this isn't going to work. Have you been to any support groups on the Coast or similar? I need to talk to someone that's had this done - probably a bloke would be most helpful. What happened with your band? The permanent nature of the sleeve is one of the major things screwing with my head ATM. Brendan.

    July 2013 sleevers

Hi Lily, I'm also on the GC and saw the dietician and psychologist today after deciding to investigate yesterday. Reading this and other forums I've changed my mind about a dozen times already so I'm not completely there yet. Who is doing your surgery? Brendan
