10 days Post-Op & Feeling Down
patiscuba replied to the-Russ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow..anyone who would treat you that way for taking control of your future health and happiness is no one to spend a second missing... I also have the same issues with food, there seems to be no rime or reason to how much I can eat one time and then the next no go. One day 4 shrimp is good, next time I am yacking two up. For me it has been 6 months, and I am still learning, but it does get better for sure. Most of the time the issue for me comes down to eating to quickly. Seems weird with only 3 bites, but still too quick, and I always pay for that if I do. It is normal t miss what was once your way of life and I am sure everyone on here will tell you it gets better, and It does.. Dont let anyone make you feel bad for choosing health over fitting in. It is not an easy way out, there is nothing easy about this, but it is a great option and it works, sometimes faster, sometimes not, sometimes it seems I am stuck at the same place for a month or more, but in the end, you feel better each day.. You will look back in a few months and be so happy with your success, your health and your life. Hang in there... -
When people ask "How did you lose weight?"
patiscuba replied to MySleeveJourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tell anyone who asks me the truth. Honestly, I am proud of what I have done, It was a very pro active step for my health and my life. It has improved me in ways I never saw connected to even weight, as I was never very unhappy with my weight, though looking back now, I do realize what it has done to my health. I want people to know abut this option, because It works and there are so many people who suffer with the hoplessness of up and down dieting, and this tool, could give them the hope they have searched for and may not have even realized it. Never be ashamed, or think it was an easy way out, but rather a great way to gain control of your life, and though it is not easy, it is successful, and worth every step of the journey -
I am 6 months out. For me it was the worst 2 months ago,it was alot of hair, but I just kept it in a pony tale, so I didnt have t brush it often, and didnt use heat products, washed every 3 days, and kept ends trimmed with a few layers added. I do not look bald though it is thinner, my profile pis was taken last month. I dont see new growth, but it has definatly slowed down alot..

REGRETTING.....
patiscuba replied to NeuroSurgNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you I threw up for 3 days straight starting when I woke up from surgery. It was a few months till I could drink water at all without throwing it up, and food very often just a bite of it would feel stuck, and I would throw it up. It got better. Still dont get water down well, but way way better. I think we eat too fast alot of times, but if you don think that is the case, perhaps they need to look to see if there is a blockage, or something as a result of swelling, or scarring. There is a solution, and you must fight to make them find it, because a few months down the road, you are gonna be happy you have this, when your health and body are so much better improved. My only regret now, is waiting so long to do it, and I even have had my rotator cuff torn as a result of positioning from surgery.. Still glad for the sleeve. the cuff tear..not so much -
What is your "(non)guilty pleasure" food?

patiscuba replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand your frustration. I was doing well then gained 3 pounds from steroids I was put on for a rotator cuff torn during my surgery though they deny it.. now same weight for a month.. I just have to keep telling myself I am way better off then before... adn wait it out or if nothing else goes, I am still way better off.. -
Does eating out become awkward after VSG?
patiscuba replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont find it awkward, in fact I am proud of how I can eat better choices now, and it is a great way to teach my kids about better health choices...though sadly they dont always share my enthusiasm lol -
YES YES YES....I rarely order my own mean though. I steal a bite or two from my son, or at best order an kids choice or snack size, and most of that comes home... love it saves tons of money.

so I am 5 months post op. When I had my surgery I had a complication that was never considered. While I was positioned for surgery, the techs must have pulled my arm to hard, and torn my rotator cuff It has gotten progressively worse for 5 months now due to therapy to make it better. But in spite of now having a arm decoration, lol, I have lost over 65 pounds. My concern is, I have =now been at this weight for a month. It is very frustrating, and I guess I am wondering if this is normal or am I as far as I will go.. It is very difficult to do much exersize, but that has been the case since day one with this injury, so all things statis quo, I dont understand why now it has come to a stop..

Depression setting in.
patiscuba replied to nurseinSD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you need meds, then do it, but you are also very early on this process, and hormones are seriously out of bal. right now. If you just try to understand that, and give it a few days or weeks, you will feel wonderful again. It does take a bit of time, you are on restricted intake, likley not even solids, everything is different, your body is tired and healing from a huge shock. It truly will get way better, and in a short period of time. Antidepressents, work, but do come with issues. hey are extreamly difficult to get off of alot of them. Do the research for yourself, and make a totally informed descision. I may get bashed for this, and sometimes they are the best answer, but i went through withdraw from them, and never again... What i went through while on them, and getting off was way worse then a few weeks of adjustment from my surgery. I tryed to find one thing to look forward to each day, a movie, a trip to the store, a favorite drink, anything, just small goals each day, and in less than a week, i was feeling much better, tired, but better, and, as my weight began to fall, even better. Now, so many of my health issues are compleatly resolved, and I am by no means skinny, but I feel so much better. You will as well. Honestly, one minute at a time. -
no prblem here with salad at 4 months but can only eat a few bites...of anything
-
I know only you guys will understand this, but I am now OVERWEIGHT!!!! yeah... no longer obese, or morbidly obese,, just overweight....I never thought I would be happy about that lol
-
wow, these stories are horrific, I didnt know it could even go that wrong, and to say you have no regrets...you are truly a remarkable person, much stronger than I am...my heart and prayers go out to both of you, I cant imagine, but you have all my best wishes for a great, and fast recovery and a wonderful new life. Dont take this wrong, but I am very thankful I did not read this prior to my surgery, I am not sure I would have had the courage to go through with it, I am a big baby. Nurses make the worst patients

How do you know when your full
patiscuba replied to angry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes you dont feel it yet, but when you add more solid protein, it will become really clear. the pain is bad if you go too far, and it can change from one meal to another so just take it slow, and no liquids after you eat, even a simple swallow of water will push it over and out lol -
Overweight - no longer obese!
patiscuba replied to Indigo1991's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeah That is such a wonderful feeling -
How to deal with family that disagree with surgery?
patiscuba replied to Doxiemom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This may sound snippy, but, it really boils down to it is your life, your health, and you have to do what is best for both of that. Dont let anyone rob you of precious time. I wish I had done it years ago, and I have had some issues. -
just checking in today. Wanted to share that my surgery was may 3, 2013. and I am half way to my goal and just went to wonderland...Yeah..great day Now if only I could cut off all this skin lol

I wish I could tell you that does not happen, but it was also my biggest fear. Sure enough, woke up sick and vomited non stop for 3 days, none of the regular meds worked for me. Had the patch, had the zofran, had phentergine, nothing. Finally, I was given compazine, and praise God , it worked. I was sent home with it as well, but I can tell you in 3 days it was gone. I later learned it is sometimes a complication of this surgery and usually lasts no longer that 3 days. I was so scared I would pop my sutures or form a leak, but none of that happened, and It did not in any way add to the pain, in fact I had almost no pain, which was also a blessing, as I cant take pain meds either for the same reason. I can also tell you, I would do it all again, and most would tell you the same thing, so dont worry..they will do all they can, and by the time I came home, I needed no more meds and each day has been better. There is nothing that compares to how good you feel once the weight is off, even just a bit of it. Best to you, you will be fine so dont wasit any more precious time with worry, it wont change anything

What was your longest stall and how far out were you
patiscuba replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thats interesting the calorie thing, because my doc wants me to starvation mode. He said only 300 to 500 cal a day... and even with that I may lose well one week, then sit at the same for 3. I have no idea why with so little intake I should have melted away already LOL -

I was sleeved may 3rd. Doc cleared me two weeks ago for all foods. Was told no protien shakes and to chew chew chew, but having trouble getting enough protien without shakes since I can only eat like 3 bites...

i am seriously having the same issue/ and to complicate it I hate all the drinks with chemical sweetners, and water makes me nauseous. I wish I had an answer, because I have litteraly tried nearly every drink in my grocery store, and since surgery, I just can barley get anything down. sometimes apple juice is ok with a bit of water in it, but besides my protien drinks drinking is a huge issue for me
