  1. I've been on this board for awhile and I actually had surgery set for July but something's came up last minute and I couldn't have my surgery. I'm in need of some guidance when it comes to the liquid diet. In order for my insurance to cover it I had to lose 10% of my weight which is 23 lbs. I've lost about 12 lbs and its been difficult. I'm hoping to schedule my surgery again for the first part of Oct and I'm required to do a 2 week liquid diet. I've done the liquid diet to jump start weight but I have not made it passed 3 days. I would like to know what how you made?? Thanks so much!
  2. I'm so excited about surgery but so nervous too! I guess they make you jump through hoops for a reason but now it's finally here. Can't wait!! Any one else have surgery set for next Tuesday??

    Surgery 23rd!

Good luck everyone!! It's going to comes so quickly and im so nervous but my excitement out weights it all. I'm 5'0 219 and hoping to lose 100 too!!
  4. I had to lose 23 lbs before my insurance would even approve me and it was hard work.,, but you can do it!!! I did the liver diet to help out and it was basically 2 shakes and a low carb lean dinner. The times I was starving I ate sugar free jello and low sodium broth or soups and jug jug room temperature water. You might feel a little sick but you won't be hungry. Good luck!!! You will get there. just tell yourself that once you have surgery it's less you have to lose to goal weight!! Take care

    Surgery 23rd!

Congrats!! I wish you the same maybe we can keep each other posted as to how we are doing!! I'm just ready for it to be done with so I can move past it an in to losing and becoming healthy! What's your stats??
  6. I also suffer with acid reflux and only reason my surgeon would not preform the sleeve surgery is if you have Barrett's disease. They should do an upper GI to make sure you don't have it. They found that I do have a henital hernia that he will repair durning my surgery and said most cases once that's fixed you shouldn't have problems with acid. Good luck in your journey!!
  7. I posted yesterday about my 2 appointments! My consultation and my EDG. My consultation went great!!! I really do like my surgeon and was very caring. My EDG had a few bumps. I guess the meds they give you to put you a sleep only made me drift off and never hit the full unconscious point. Needless to stay I could feel the tube going down my throat and gagging and fighting them because I could feel everything. it was horrible!! They finally had use stronger meds to knock me out. Even though that was very scary and my throat is very much on fire today I do not blame my doctor as know one knew that I would handle the sedation that way. They mentioned that my anxiety level could of possibly caused me to never fully fall asleep. More good news!! Last summer I was having issues and had to have EDG done and the doctor said I had Berrets disease. Thankfully after lots of prayers and natural meds I know longer have it and he said it looks great!!
  8. I have my consultation and EDG today! Really excited but I have to admit it scares the day lights out of me to be put to sleep. I've been under a couple times and I still always have the same fear of not waking up. I'm terrified he will find something and I won't be able to have surgery. Prayers please!! Tomorrow I have my education class and pre-assessment at the hospital! Hopefully I will have a set date for surgery. keeping my fingers crossed for the second week in July! Have a great day!!
  9. I too have BCBS of TN! What my doctor told me is that BCBS is one of the easier insurance companies to get approval if not the easiest. My only concern with mine is they require a %10 weight loss before i can go head with surgery.

    This might sound stupid

I have to lose 10% as well. That's my insurance company requesting that. Plus 3 week pre-op liquid diet. I was considering doing the liquid diet for a week and see how I do with weight loss. Just eat a lean dinner. It's frustrating!'

    Victory is Mine!

Way to go!! How awesome it is to kick bad habits! That truly is a victory!! I gave up sodas in January and that was huge for me as I was having 2 large sonic cokes a day sometimes 3 not to mention the money I'm saving. I've really been trying to eat 80/90 % more cleaner foods and its been helpful. Only thing I'm struggling with now is my 1 cup of coffee a day with my creamer ugh!! Ill get there! Good luck and good job!! We got this
  12. I have a high BMI but a lot of your BMI is calculated based on your height. I'm 5 foot even and I'm 229 and big boned that puts me at a 45 BMI. I really hate how they haven't changed it to match how someone is built. It says that my healthy weight is 115 and I'm fearful that I would look very sick considering I'm big boned and have quite a bit of muscle. In regards to your question I to am curious if ill be a slow loser. I pray I'm not!!

    Pre-Op Diet Update

Wow!! 18 lbs?? Way to go! If you don't mind me asking what does your pre-op diet consist of?
  14. ccbarrick

    Weight lifting?

I'm still pre-op but I was wondering if there will be any type of restrictions with weight lifts? I know most say 6 weeks so your body has time to heal but I was curious if you lift heavy weights after the 6 week mark and on (body building) could you tear open your incision? My ultimate goal is to do women's weight lifting competition but I don't ever want to do anything that could cause injury! Thanks in advance!

    Weight lifting?

Thanks for responding! I can't wait to get back to the gym and start training!
  16. I have not had the surgery yet but boy am I excited and nervous all at the same time!! I'm hoping to have my surgery in early July ( fingers crossed)! Maybe this can give your mind a little ease- I've been researching WLS for a year now and I finally took the big leap and called my insurance company and attended my first seminar and what an eye opener. My surgeon told us from the time we left that day to the day I have my first consultation to make a list of pros and cons and to write a short paper describing my quality of life that I currently have now. I honestly have to say that I do have some things list on the cons side but there are so many pros I have!! As for my quality of life- i have an amazing and supportive husband and 3 beautiful kids that I love but im not active with them im a side line mom and i hate that. For once I can pictures myself as a healthy, active and maybe even a sexy person! As for people not being supportive I understand! It sucks but ultimately you have to do what makes you happy and a better wife and mom. There will always be unsupportive people but for everyone that's not supportive there are a handful that will be!! Good luck and hopefully you will find peace about whatever choice you make.
  17. Once I made up my mind about having WLS I told my husband I was not telling a soul and if they asked I would simply say I had a hernia repaired. Once I went to my seminar we spoke very openly to our children about me wanting to be healthy so I can have a long life and be there for them. Well my sweet son of mine spilled the Beans to the one person I did not want to know ( sister n law). He didn't mean to I think he was truly excited for me plus he's only 8 haha! Once he told her I decided you know if I'm going to be successful I can't be ashamed and scared what people think. As long as my husband is supportive that's all that matters. There will always be someone that won't agree and sees it as an easy way out. Then I think what if I can be that one person that can help someone take that first step and become healthy!! Even though I may not lose all my weight by myself and I will having WLS my goal is to be healthy and active and I want to be an inspiration to someone!! I won't have it printed in the news paper but I will be up front if they ask me...I figure if they care for me they will support me!
  18. I was thinking last night about my clothes that I have now and was curious how I will be able to keep up with clothes to fit me once I have the surgery! Question for all how to keep up with the different clothes sizes? Do you shop all the time to keep up with your weight loss?
  19. Hello everyone! I'm hoping to have surgery in July too! I'm only required to lose 10% of my weight. I'm a little nervous about this but I don't think I should have a problem. Based on my weight I should ink have to lose 23lbs. I have to meet with my NUT, phycologist June 6th and I'm also meeting with my surgeon in that day too. Then ill have 1 more meeting to have my scope test done! She said if I do my part by losing my 10% that she doesn't see why I can't have my surgery the first part of July! I'm so excited but scared too. I'm a huge worry wart and I start freaking out about the surgery. I know the percentage is small but Im so fearful that ill have a leak or horrible acid reflux and lose all my hair haha. More than anything my excitement out weight my fear. I look forward to talking with you!! Ill put my stats below. SW: 229 10% loss: 206 ( have yet to do this) Goal weight: 125

    unexpected doubt - NSV

Congrats!! It's a huge accomplishment to be able to lose so much weight on your own. I have to lose 10% of my weight before my surgeon will even submit paper work to my insurance. I'm freaking out a little bit plus I'm impatient! I know that if you set your mind ( our minds are a powerful thing) and your 100% dedicated you can do it on your own. Me personal I've struggled for the last 8 years the most I've ever lost on my own in about 20 lbs. If I were you I would talk to your surgeon and nutritionist and see what they think!! If you don't mind could you share how you lost your weight? Maybe it can help me get to my goal so I can start my WLS journey!!

    New Here!

Hello! I'm so glad I found this form! I been reading for a couple week. I've talked about having weight loss surgery for the past 2 years and the last couple months I guess you would say I've hit rock bottom. I attended my first seminar class and it only pumped me up even more. I'm still waiting for the doctors office to call me back with a consultation with the surgeon. Luckily they have been wonderful with trying to fit all my appointments in on one day since I'm traveling 4 hours. Before the seminar I was dead set on having the lap band because I was terrified to have most of my stomach removed. I had this thought that what happened if I get sick and something bad happened a to the remaining part of my stomach. After the seminar I felt lead to do more research on the sleeve. Even though my mind isn't 100 % made up I still feel lead to have the sleeve! A few questions I wasn't able to find is with my insurance BCBS TN they require you to lose 10% of your weight before they do surgery. I'm very nervous because I feel like that will be the only thing holding me back. I haven't met with the nutritionist yet so hopefully she will be able to help me. Any advice so I can start?? Thanks in advance! I'm sure I will have more questions!

Thank you for the advice! I know I can do it. I'm just so ready for the surgery!! I've been day dreaming about myself and how I will lose weight and how I will be so much more healthier for my 3 children and my husband will have his wife back! I guess I'm a little impatient.
