  1. No more knee excuses...time to get back on track!

Good for you! I say the same thing about my neck and am making progress everyday!

  2. I am still rehabbing my knee after 2 surgeries but headed out on a 3 to 4 day backpack trip in August. Can't wait.
  3. Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing great! Me, ehhhh. After two knee surgeries I am ready to get back on track and restart the success! After my knee surgeries I was not able to do the walking and bike riding that I love so much and was my main exercise after my sleeve. Unfortunately I regained about 20 pounds. It is hard to admit that but it is the truth and my first step to reclaim myself. I still ate right, for the most part and did not overeat. I just did not exercise. No excuses, just didn't do what I could have. I used my knee as an excuse I guess. I am happy to say I have restarted my walking...pushing myself at times. I have started hiking again which those of you who remember me know is one of my favorite activities. I hiked 5 miles last tuesday up in Arkansas. I am working hard to hopefully go on a 4 day hiking trip with some friends in Sept. for about 40 miles. I still can't do the bike yet, but that will come as I rebuild the strength. Well, here we go!!

    I'M BACK!

Thanks Jaime. I didn't have replacements...yet. Those will be in the future. I had some arthtitis removed from behind the knee cap and had two different tears in the meniscus fixed. Then during recovery from that I somehow damaged my LCL and had a minor repair done there. Still have no idea how I did that. All is good and glad to be getting back on the right track.

    Feeling down...but not in weight

Thanks everyone. I do still get a minimum of 64oz of Water a day...usually 96oz. I only drink water, no tea, no coffee, no soft drinks. I rarely even drink a beer any more due to the calories. This have gotten better since my post. I am still in a stall but I am defiantely back to eating correctly again and back to tracking everything on MyFitnessPal. That is a huge help. No I am eating my calories alotted but then my exercise and walking adds more calories available which I end up with unused calories at the end of the day.
  6. I am 16 months out of surgery and down 100 pounds. That is great...I am happy about that. BUT I haven't lost any weight in over 6 months and between the holidays and recent knee surgery, I have actually put a few pounds on. I got on the scale today for the first time in a month and was very upset with myself at what I saw. I honestly am not sure where I am going with this post, guess I just needed to vent and maybe seeing it writing would help remotivate me even more. I know seeing the scale did. Thanks for letting me vent a moment.

    Horrible eating over Christmas

Same here, the holidays and just life in general has been tough the last few months. I have also had some set backs but 1/1/15 is the start of a new book with 365 blank pages! I plan on filling all those pages with nothing but great adventures, healthy eating and continuing this wonderful journey we have all started. Just stay strong and everything will fall back in place.
  8. Happy New Year everyone! Stay safe if heading out!

    Gaining after a year

I have been struggling with this as well. I have planned a reset for January 1st. I am going back to Protein shakes for a week or 2 then going back to the basics. The holidays killed me. Too many conveinent foods. I blame myself though. This is a tough time for alot of people. We just have to stay strong.

    Feeling down...but not in weight

Thanks everyone. Yes, I also plan on restarting the Protein shakes to hopefully kickstart things. I have finally been able to resume my pre knee surgery walking/bike riding workouts so that should help, I just have to work back into them slowly. I still need/want to loose about 50 to 75 more pounds to hit my pre-surgery goal. I know I can do it, I just need to refocus. I think one problem is I have been fighting some old demons as far as food and eating habits. I know they are wrong but hard to control sometimes. Food was always my drug per say. I was depressed, I ate, I was angry, I ate, I was bored, I ate...etc. Luckily no depression or anger but I guess I have ADD and get bored easy so I try and stay busy. But sometimes it only takes 5 minutes and for some reason I want to nibble on something. I bought a big pack of sugarfree gum last night. My theory is everytime I want to nibble, chew a piece of gum for awhile. Hopefully it works. Thanks for y'alls help, it means alot. By the way Helen, what is the 5:2 diet? I might need to look into that also. Always looking for ways to vary things daily.
  11. Finally clearance to resume more walking after knee surgery. Now waiting on my custom unloader knee brace and then the sky will be the limit! Bring it on!!

    Fitbit

I have considered the scale as well. Just haven't broke down and bought it. Hmmm...something to add to the Christmas list for Santa.

    Fitbit

I have been using mine for about a year and a half and LOVE it! I love the challanges you can do with your friends. The more friends the more motivation!
  18. A couple slices of thin sliced deli smoked turkey and a couple small slices of Mozerella cheese. That is my main goto snack. I bought a food scale and that equals to about 2.5 oz a snack. I try to avoid the Protein bars due to all the carbs. I go for the natural protein, mostly meat and Beans. I am at a plateu right now and not much exercise due to knee surgery 2 weeks ago so I am defiantely trying to eat right, but dang it is hard! Especially this time of year.

    Knee self rehab ideas

I had surgery last week on my knee finally. 2 tears in the meniscus and scraped some arthritis out from behind my knee cap. Not a bad recovery so far. My Dr. didn't prescribe any rehab physical therapy for this but I am wanting to do some myself other than just walking. Any suggestions on some good exercises to rehab the knee and get me back out on the hiking trail soon? Anyone else have experience with this surgery? Thanks in advance.

    Knee injuries?

So, has anyone else had to deal with knee injuries after weight loss? I have been hiking, walking and riding my exercise bike a lot! I started feeling some discomfort and pain. I went and saw the Dr, had an MRI and today found out that I have a tear in my medial AND lateral meniscus. Great, surgery again. BUT, this won't stop me. He gave me a brace and I can still do my walks, just nothing extreme and no bike for awhile. Has anyone else ever had this?

    Knee injuries?

Thanks...so far so good. Just ready to hit the trails again.

    Knee injuries?

Every thing is doing better now. I had knee surgery last week. They fixed 2 tears in the meniscus, a slight tear in ACL and scraped out some arthritis from behind the kneecap. Know the self rehab begins so I can get back on the hiking trail! It was mostly just wear an tear. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Hey there tfarr. I think the problem you might have there is the arm you are wearing it on. Do you wear it on your dominate arm or nondominate? I wear mine on my nomdominate side and it stays pretty accurate. Also, make sure the setting is set for the correct arm.
  25. Well, Aug 19th was my one year surgeversary. My body has been taking me on new adventures. A few weeks ago I went to Colorado with some friends. This was my first real test since surgery last year. Coming from Louisiana and an altitude of roughly 200 feet above sea level, I made it to about 12,300 feet above sea level before the altitude just got to be to much for me. Physically though, I felt awesome! Knees felt great, heart felt good, everything was great! Only problem was my lungs at that altitude. Last year, I would not have made it half as far as I did. Dang lungs just couldn't handle it...lol Thats ok, gonna try again next year and hopefully have more time before the hike to acclimate to the altitude. I was upset to stop before making it to the top of Mt Elbert but once I realized how far I had gone compared to where I was last year, I was extremely pleased with myself and felt great about what I had accomplished. I am headed to Arkansas next month with my wife to do some hiking in the Ouachita Mtns. Can't wait!! Here are some pics from Mt. Elbert in Colorado. I WILL make it to the top next time!.
