Great topic and a great way to get workout ideas. For me, I am 2 weeks post op today. I have started a walking program to build up my strength. For now, I walk on the tread mill in 10 minute intervals about 3 to 4 times a day. At work, my boss and I measured out the warehouse and 9 laps around the outside lanes of the warehouse equals just over 1 mile. Well, the first time I tried it I thought 9 laps was no big deal..lol I did it, but was worn out the rest of the day. So, The rest of the week I walked 4 laps everyday. This week I am going to add a lap and walk 5 laps. Next week 6 laps and so on. Oct 1st, I plan on starting the Couch 2 5K program. I am also looking for a bike to begin riding. I used to love riding and I am very much interested in getting back into it. I will just be glad to get my strength and stamina back up to normal, but I am not letting it slow me down.

OUCH!! Glad you are ok. I had a nasty spill one time while test riding a bike I was thinking about buying. The chain broke when I shifted gears and wound up in the rear wheel. They were shocked at the store when I walked back up with the bike and was bloody. Needless to say, they did't care about the bike...just me. I guess if I was thinking right I could have gotten a deeeep discount on that bike...lol

Oh no...I would do it like I have been doing my walking. Started slow and adding a little more distance at a time. Biking would be the same. As for post surgery soreness, I feel great! I still get a little tired easy, but I am not letting it slow me down. Just taking it easy. I have also given myself a date of Oct 1st to start the Couch to 5K program. I just need to start looking for a decent bike, I don't want a cheapo from Wally world or anything. I want one that will last.

I am 2 weeks post op, but will do what I can. I am rebuilding my strength up daily. Does walking on a treadmill count? Is there an app that would also track steps and or miles walked on a treadmill or recumbent bike?

I love this thread. Great job on starting your biking experience. I am looking to get back into biking again. Many many years ago I did some mountain biking and had a Gary Fisher mountain bike. I loved that thing...til it was stolen and I lost my motivation. But it is back and I am ready. I do have a question though. I a 2 weeks post op right now, how long should I wait before starting a bike exercise program? I live in Louisiana so there are no mountains, just flat with the occasional hill. I am already walking a couple miles a day but I prefer biking to walking. Thanks everyone and everyone is looking great!

Minimum 60 grams, but 75 to 85 is better. There are alot of ways to help get it while on the road. Protein bars and shakes as well as things like turkey and tuna...lots of protein in those. Good luck on your surgery!

I am at day 11 and really not hungry either. I still get down 4 8oz shakes a day plus almost 64oz of water a day and occasional Jello. I start pureed on wed 9/4. I just try and have something every 2 hours. Just make sure you are getting your liquids and protein, that is very important right now.

Great job and very inspiring! I am almost 2 weeks post op and can't wait for the opportunities that a healthier lifestyle will bring me and my wife. I have started a pretty good walking routine both at home on the treadmill as well as at work in our warehouse. I have set a date of Oct. 1st for myself to start the Couch 2 5K program. I figure that will give me plenty of time to heal up from my surgery. Thanks again for sharing your story and I wish you continued success in the future. -
Looking great! Keep it going!

Bariatric Advantage for pre-op?
lsu2868 replied to greenivy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been using them during my pre op and now post op diets. They are not bad, but not the best tasing sometimes. I sometimes use a drop of almond extract in the chocolate or banana extract in either vanilla or chocolate to change them up a little. 1 scoop of vanilla, 1 scoop of chocolate, 1 sweet and low. 4 ice cubes and 1 drop of coffee extract is pretty good too. -
Do you guys track everything?
lsu2868 replied to vsginkc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also use MyFitnessPal and love it. I used it on a regular basis for awhile during my pre op diet and I am just now getting back in to it after my surgery but it is extremely easy to use. It helps you see what you are doing, where you may be lacking, what you might be eating to much of and so forth. It is really handy and you can track your exercise with it as well. I highly recommend it. -
When were you able to lie on your side again?
lsu2868 replied to becslivinlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to lay on my right side night 1 but not me left until around night 9. I am a left side sleeper so once I was able to get on that side, I slept like a big ole baby!! -

I am 6'3" and was 381 at my heaviest. I was 359 when I started the VSG process back in Feb. I was 354 when I started my 2 week preop shake diet. I was 335 on the day of my surgery and now, 8 days post op I am 322. It is amazing how much better I feel already. My goal is around 220 so about 100 to go.

I have been looking at the Flex as well. I will be going with that one for sure.

Had my surgery on the 19th. 1 week post op and feeling great!! 11 pounds down this week, almost 30 pounds total since I started the pre op diet. Only had pain for the first 12 hours and has been no problem since. I haven't had any pain meds since the night of my surgery. I have my follow up this wed the 28th. I hope to start adding some pureed and soft foods shortly. Hope everyone is progressing as well as I feel!!
