A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Ok i am joining the high BMI ers. I think mine was 61 when i started. insurance even denied me because they said my BMI was to high for weight loss surgery! Weird. I appealed and they approved me right away. I just got banded and am starting my long trip with all you people! -
New2tch, i am 8 days out right now and i would be fine to go back to work. After 5 or 6 days you are going to feel almost normal again.

Way to go JudiM! I am seven days out now and i really feel good. No more shortness of breath. I walked to the lighthouse on the lake this morning which is about 3 mile round trip no problem today. Good luck all you August 13th ers today! Yes definately drink warm liquids when your tight! It really helps you feel better!
-
Pigs--Yes it feels tight at the top of my chest, right between the boobies. ckbw--Im soo sorry to hear that happened to you! Sounds like the doctors did the right thing and aborted. Im sure they will do some tests and see what caused it. I know they have ways of getting around the high blood pressure so dont give up just yet. But truly i am really sorry! I would be upset if that happenend to me. Have you ever had surgery before? Maybe its something to do with the anthesia. Keep us posted. Btw-- 6 days from banding today and i almost feel normal! Probably in two days or so i wont feel a thing!

ejbserafin - Good to hear your doing well. Its Sunday , day 6 for me now. It is so much easier today, just keeps getting better. I only feel very slight pain now. Not much at all. I am surposed to be on liquids and i ate a sugar free Jello pretty quickly last night, big mistake, boy did it get stuck in there. Not super painful but i definately felt the full feeling. It was only a 6oz jello too! Its easy to forget i have a band now and when i drink or eat too fast like that i can feel it. I can only imagine what solids must be like getting stuck. I finally managed to sleep laying in bed last night! Yah! That was so nice and i feel great this morning.

Just thinking.....my surgery scares are going to look kinda weird when i go back swimming next week. I hope nobody will think too much about it at the pool. I guess if they have a problem with it then its their problem.

Wow! Saturday now ( banded on Monday) and what a turn around!!! Felt alot better today. Still a little achey but i think Friday was probably my worst day and today is worlds apart. Last night went with some friends for dinner and i just got Soup. It was a little thicker than i had hoped but it went down just fine. For lunch today i had a bowl of soup with some very soft noodles in it and that went down fine too. Bad thing is i can slowly feel my appitite starting to return. I am still meant to be on liquids for another week. I think i will make it ok but those old cravings are starting to return a little. I really like the Dannon Light & fit smoothies too. Just one fills me up pretty good and there only 60 calories. 10g carb and 5g Protein. Actually moved around and cleaned up my bedroom this morning a little. Also went out for a 20min ride on my motocycle after i had done my walking exercise. Itchy incessions yesterday but not to bad today. If you had to push it i would say to anyone at least 1 week before returning to a desk job but i think i am going to take 2 weeks before going back. After soup my wife asked 'do you feel full?' I told her i dont really know. I think its going to be a different kind of full feeling. Just go slow everyone.

6kg would be almost 13 lbs! way to go. -
Lady SUz, try the EAS shakes as well. For protien they have 17g in them and they dont taste too bad. There not really thick either. You can get them most places.
-
Keep it up Terri, just keep going at it! Your doing great! I am 5 days out from banding now and i cant wait to get back to swimming. I have been walking about a mile a day since surgery but i much prefer swimming.

I agree with Ladysuz. The week pre op liquid diet i went through was worse for me than the post op week so far! -
Well its Friday now and i was banded Monday. I am only allowed liquids for 2 weeks after banding then mushies 2 weeks after that. Waking up this morning and i could tell everything was very tight. I have read in general things are tighter in the morning. Got some advice to take warm liquids when its really tight and that really helped out this morning! Had chicken broth and i could feel the warm liquid loosen everything up a little. I walked about a mile last night (not alone!) and that felt good also. My scares look pretty good, no bruising around them. Itchy but any cut would be itchy at this stage. The little strip band aids are falling off now. Maybe its because they shaved my whole belly that it itches too. Going to try and get out for a couple more walks today.

I love swimming too! Being soo overweight i feel terrible in a gym. I started swiming at the y before work. Have to get there at 5am but it is so worth it. I dont sweat and its easy on my joints. I reward myself with 20mins in the hot tub after. By the time i leave for work at 6.40am i feel great! I was just bandand this week and im desperte to get back to it. Hopefully after my week check up he will let me get back to it! Lets keep it up swimmers! Funny thing is i am 32 and everyone else in there at 5am is easily over 60! But they all love me. It is a little embrassing getting in and out the pool being so big, but hey, at least im doing it.

Well its been since Monday for me (Thursday now). I went for a walk outside as i am getting a little tired of being inside. The walk was fine. My pain level is low but i get tired really quick (might be the codine). It does take a while to drink even 5 onces. The doc gave me the largest band and he said even that one was a little tight on me so he was a little concerned on day 4 or 5 my stomach might swell a little to where i wont be able to take Water down. If that happens i will have to go back on an iV. Everything has been going down good so far though. The advantage is i wont need many fills he said to feel in my green zone. I sleep in a recliner for now which really is ok with me, just taking it easy watching movies and playing xbox alot.

Clorox and Judy, Dont Fret. I know exactly where you are coming from! Last week on my liquid diet was the worst part of the whole thing! Sunday i was freaking a little and Monday when i left the house for the hospital was was nearly in tears. I know it was partly hunger because i use food to cope with anything. I got on the or and i was out like i light. I woke up in recovery it really was not half as bad as i thought. !!! I got home a while ago and its sore on the incisssions but its really not bad at all! You really are worrying for nothing. It was easy for me and im a cry baby. I could rest comftable and definately was not in constant pain. I took lots of little walks and i have no gas pain as of yet. I think the best thing was not being hungry since monday morning! Hang in there! I was truly surprised how easy it was. -
Well i had the surgery yesterday and i got back home this afteroon. Not half as bad as i thought. They got me onto the operating room and put a gas mask on my me. i took 5 breathes and though 'whats this meant to do' next thing i know i was waking up in recovery! I was a little quessy at first but after that i was fine. No gas pains yet. made sure i walked alot in the hospital but i rested well. Im sore around my incissions but not too uncomftabe. Even the upper Gi test was not hard to do. I know its different for everyone but when went about as easily as it could.

Law--- there pre made, you can buy them at Walmart or any grocery store. They are about the best tasting protein shakes out there. The choclate ones anyway. They have high protein which is the big deal with them. -

August 6th It so interesting reading the way different Doc handle it. I have to be in the Hospital overnight. 23 hrs. My surgery is 8am so i have to book in 6am! means i will have to leave the house at 5am up at say 4.15am! Yikes. When ever i travel for work and have to cach a early flight getting up at 3 am or 4am always makes me feel sick and quessy. Hope not this time. -

August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets
whosyadaddy replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on my Pre op diet. August 6th is my date. 7 Days of liquid only. I can do Slim fast, Atkins shakes Medifast, EAS, just a s long as not Ensure. Plenty of water, sugur free Jello. Then just clear liquids the day before. I am doing about 3 EAS shakes and 2 Slimfast as Slimfast is cheap but doesnt have much Protein.
