PandaGirl Look at my weight! I got the band! my surgeon didnt try and talk me out of it. He said i was going to be a challeange but i got it. My wife and i too though maybe i should get the bypass but im so glad i didnt!. You will do fine with the band! Dont let em scare you. Yes you can cheat it by eating lots of ice cream and milkshakes but it wont let you over eat solid foods. I had the bigger band and my surgeon said it was snug but it was ok. O and my surgion doc told me to pretty much take what a nutrionist says with a pinch of salt as they dont understand the band too well. I am soooo glad i picked the band! -

Hey about that Emergency exit aisle on the plane with the extender. That really sucks. Makes me kind of mad though. Stewdess 'people might trip on it in an emergency' Me 'I think i can manage to make sure its in my seat out of the way' Thats really a stupid rule. I always wondered why big people couldnt seat in the emergeny aisle. -

Well i got to the YMCA. I think they have more fat people there than other 'Gyms'. I know you dont want to hear it but i do go swim every morning. Running, walking or bikeing is just too hard on my joints at my weight. I can swim for an hour now and at my weight i burn 1400 calories for that! I get there at 5am so there really is only elderly people in the pool so its not too embrassing. I do feel bad about how i look but i got to a point where i was like 'you know what, i HAVE to exercise so screw it' I am going to start lifting weights again soon though, probably swim 3 to 4 times a week and lift 2 or 3 times. I was banded just over two weeks ago and i think i should wait a few weeks before lifting weights. Yes it sucks to be overweight in a gym but most people understand thats why your there. -

THE best airline to fly for big seats in coach is most definately Mid West Airlines. It has to be there signiture service though the other ones are standard. You could always buy you own extender if you really are that worried. Under 300 tough you should be fine. I got down to 369 last year and i wasnt using extenders anymore (one of yo yo diets) -
O gosh the Y is closed today (closed Sundays in the Summer here). Its raining so i cant walk and i need to exercise. Who would of thought i actually wanted to exercise nowadays. No big deal. I will be there at 5am tomorrow. Ahhhh back to work tomorrow.

I too suffer the airplane humilation. I have to fly about 13 times a year for work on average and most of them have connections. Most dont even offer buisness class and my company would look down on me flying expensive class anyway. Flying so much i have alot of little tricks that can work for me but sometimes you are just stuck making someone that you sit next too feel uncomfortable. I even have my own extender so i dont have to ask all the time. -
Beware And Be Aware-those Who Take Bp Meds!!!
whosyadaddy replied to kacee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too am on BP meds. I was about 160 over 90 i think before bp meds. After my surgery i was 114/80 i think. I didnt take my BP meds for 2 weeks. Im on Lipsoil and Hydro something (water pill). I got a big headache yesterday and thought -- hmm better get back on em. So i took them this morning. When i went to swim this morning my finger tips got really numb and cold and my toes too. Is this a sign of low bp? I need to get some way to test myself. Dont trust Walmarts tester and my arm is so big it wont fit anyway. What do you use to test yourself? Can you give me a link? -
Saturday-- Well i hit the YMCA this morning. Got up at 6am as they open at 7am and Saturadays can be busy for me at home, (aaaahhhhh yard work). Rode my motorcycle down there. As it was not a work day i lie to spend a little longer there on Sats so i set a new record for myself today--- 50 laps! wooo hoo. No way i can keep that up as it took me about 1hr 20mins but it did feel good. Its so funny swimming there in the morning, noboby else there is under 60 i think. Its a little weird when im doing my best and this 65 yr old lady with a flowery swim cap overtakes me.:rolleyes

Smilin- Wow, thats alot of surgerys for you. i think you are going to find this one no where near as bad. I had surgery at 8am, was up to my room by 10.30am and i took my first little walk about 12.30. I had be warned about gas pain and i was told taking walks would help. I only had a little shoulder pain and it was minor. I tried to a walk every 2 hrs or so to help. Of course my first walk was only just about outside my room and back. Then they got longer. I did loose my breathe easily so i took it slow. I suffer from back pain alot too, i had a scan last year but they couldnt see any disc trouble. I am sure its my weight, sorry to hear about your problems though. I started swiming 6 months before surgery so i could build my strength up. I am hopeing next summer to be thin enough to go bicycling with my wife. She had lapband in June of this year. She was thinner than me and she is about 245 now. She can ride 13 miles on some days. Shes has lost about 45 pounds total. Hang in there today my pre op diet friends! Weekends can be very tough. Your going to start thinking 'what am i doing to myself, am i ever going to be able to eat again?' -
Hey i used to live in Delaware Ok on to the Soda. Let me tell you, i was a diet soda addict! I used to drink up to 10 diet sodas a day. Back 6 months ago i decedied to go for lapband and i gave up soda right away so i knew it would be one less thing i would have to deal with when the time came. It was not easy! It seems USA is geared towards eveyone drinking soda all the time. Just look around in a resturant! It was hard for me for about a month or two. When i got close to surgery (about 6 months later) i limited myself to diet clear sodas as i knew soon i would not be able to drink them again. The fact that i knew i could kick them was a good help for me. After the surgery i really have no desire to even drink them anymore. As for beer- lucky for me i was never a big beer drinker, maybe 12 beers a month in the summer months and less in the winter. If a doc told me i could never drink achol again it wouldnt really even be an issue for me so i cant help you there. Think about it, read the ingrediants on a can of soda. Its pretty much just a big chemical mixture. Now there is no way a chemical mixture drink can be good for you. I really think soda does more damage to your body than we realise.

Hi Swimmers! Today i finaly got to swim after my surgery! It will be two weeks on Monday from banding and today i did about 22 laps! Yay! It felt so good. Took me about 45 mins. I have been walking till now but im so heavy even walking gives me ankle pains, swimming is the awnser for me. O and i had my hair cut today and asked her about shampoo and she also recomended Paul Mitchell 'Shampoo 3' its made to take chlorine out. It was only about $8.50 for a pretty big bottle so when my stuff runs out i will give it a try. Lets GO swimmers!

Silimin Apple--- Thanks! Hang in there it will be so worth it!! I was thinkin today, even if my insurance didnt cover this (which they did thankfully) and i had to self pay, it would have been worth every single penny! I mean, people will buy a new car for 25,000 which will last maybe 15 years, but 20,000 for a surgery like this which may extend your life by as much as 20 years (for me) and all the things i will be able to do which i cant now is so worth it! -

Shelli, Yes i was scared and nervous. I had never spent any time in a hospital since i was born (and i cant remember that). Let me tell you though, i was actually a little mad at myself for being so scared afterwards because it was a piece of cake! I have had migranes way worse than the recovery pain! I never got pain level above about 3! I was really worried about being nausious so i made sure i told them and they gave me stuff and i hardly ever felt sick at all! I was never hungry after. The biggest problem for me was the really dry mouth (boy was my breathe bad!) so i just kept brushing my teeth alot. Staying over night was so relaxing for me. I dont know how those outpatient people could handle it. I had a room to myself and i could close the door so i had no noise at all at night! I am going to be 2 weeks out on Monday and i feel like this is the best thing i could have ever done!!!!!!! I have so much hope! I swam 22 laps this morning in the pool, takes me about 45 mins but it felt so good. I am 50/50 on sweet and salty. This morning i eat out at about 11.00 (brunch). I had scrambaled eggs and some hash brown ( a treat). Total about 2 cups and i was FULL! Full! o my gosh, it feels so good to eat so little and feel satisfied!!!!!!! I had soup for dinner and i feel fine!!!! Seriously, hang in there on your pre op diet, i feel your pain!!! It will be so worth it!!!!!! -

Shelli, I just read you are on your pre op diet. For me that was the worst part! Hang in there! Mine was a nightmare for me to do. After the surgery it gets sooooooo much easier. Even the recovery from surgery was easier for me than the stinky post op diet. It does get a little easier after day 3 on it but not that easy. I just wanted to hide in bed the whole time. -

I bought a scale today that goes to 380 max. Hopeing i will be able to use it soon! I did buy one once from SkyMall that said it goes to 450 but it didnt work so i sent it back. My only way to weigh is going to be the shipping scale at work for a while. I got the biggest band but my doc said it was still a little tight so maybe i wont need as many fills.
