Anyone booked with Dr. Cabrera or Valenzuela and staying at the Marriott?
dkandsm replied to MumtazG38's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
They will upgrade you to the Marriott or Lucerne, provided there is availability. It might be an additional charge, but it might be free of charge, too. Just tell your coordinator that you'd feel more comfortable elsewhere. That's what I did. -
has anyone used medicaltourismco with dr ismael cabrera garcia
dkandsm replied to derickalvinderick's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You can request to stay at the Marriott instead of the hotel they are currently using. It could be an additional cost, but they also might upgrade you free of charge. I cancelled my surgery back in May, but the the upgrade to Marriott (as I requested) was free. -

Gastric Sleeve In Guadalajara Mexico
dkandsm replied to Nelly1828's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Has your dad payed attention to the news? There is lots of violence in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, both. It's all over Mexico, although some areas are safer than others. Do a quick search on 'net and you will find lots of information supporting that. Actually, just this month, the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara issued an alert to U.S. citizens about a rise in violence and armed robberies in the area. Yes, Tijuana has it's share of violence, as well, but so many American's (and non-Mexican citizens) travel to that city yearly for its medical services. With its close proximity to the California border, it's easy to get back across to the States if safety becomes an issue. The same can't be said for Guadalajara or PV. I've heard the Yucatan Peninsula is the safest area in Mexico. Being that your dad is so concerned about your safety, maybe you should look into having surgery in Merida Yucatan Mexico. Good luck! -

Leaving Monday, Surgery Tuesday
dkandsm replied to Kristen125's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Lots of luck going your way! I'm leaving Tuesday and have my surgery on Wednesday. I am majorly stressing out. :/ -
I've recently had what I chalked up as being costochondritis. The bottom of my sternum was super sore and tender, especially upon palpation, as were a couple of ribs. I could feel the soreness in my chest cavity when I laid on my stomach or stood/sat with poor posture. The discomfort lasted for about three weeks and has now eased up on its own. While there are various causes, it is my understanding that it doesn't necessarily have to have an exact cause. It can take several weeks for the tenderness to subside. If the soreness keeps getting worse, without relief, it would be a good idea to seek medical attention. I hope it eases up quickly for you! ETA: You might want to take it easy with any strenuous activities until the soreness has subsided. Intense exercise could exacerbate the inflammation.

Hi there! My insurance has an exclusion on the policy, so it will not cover bariatric surgery. Going to Mexico was really my only option, as I did not have the large amount of cash money on hand to have it done here. When I initially discussed it with my husband, he was uneasy about the idea. As I have researched the web immensely, reading everything I can find about surgery in Mexico and telling him about my findings, he has slowly became more understanding. He has not been worried about my safety, per se, but moreso the procedure itself. So many people have gone to Mexico with great success, however, and many of the surgeons are highly experienced with great credentials. This has been reassuring to my husband. I have read that most surgeons will repair a hernia at the time of surgery for an extra $500 to $725. That is much cheaper than what we would pay here with our outrageous medical care costs. I can completely understand your wife being apprehensive. Procesing ones desire to have such a surgery is difficult to begin with, but the thought of them going to Mexico to have it done seems even scarier to most people. Maybe she could read the various forums, where people have posted about their own personal experiences, and that could help her feel more at ease about the idea of going to Mexico for surgery. Good luck with your decision and I hope your wife feels comfortable with whatever you decide. My surgery is scheduled for May 8th! --Debbie
