Sushi after surgery
Healthiernewme replied to Nesa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll have to wait until you get to regular foods (phase 4), after the mushies and soft foods. Mine is after 4 weeks, but every doctor/NUT has a different plan. I would specifically ask your surgeon, since it is an important food for you. Now, the rice attached to some of the sushi - I would wait quite a while before I ate that, but that's just me. Even when your doctor OKs a food still take it very slow (take one very small bite and wait) to see how your body will react to it. Oh, and you have to chew the heck out of it before swallowing. -
"It’s a scientific fact – something in motion tends to stay in motion. Momentum builds quickly and can lead to great results. Suddenly, you’re not only working for the goal, but also to keep your streak alive. Even more reason to reach your goals." It's time to get motivated peeps, let's do this! Put up that goal outfit or picture, and let's get this show on the road:) #needtotakethishealthinesstonextlevel

Since we can only put so much food in our pouch, why not choose the healthiest and tastiest options? Wow, there are some really delicious recipes out there that are both nutritious and low carb/fat, etc. I'm going to still have cookouts, I'll just cook the "heavy fillers" for the guest and make sure I put in a couple of "healthy gourmet dishes" for us body conscious peeps. No need to suffer in our journey.

That's it... you've got this:)

I was told that either the liquids or chewable were fine. I personally take the liquid vitamins (I can share the info for it, if interested -- just PM me), but then chewables for the B12, Calcium and Omega-3s with DHA.

Sleeved on May 20 and have questions
Healthiernewme replied to csutton22's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've had sugar-free hard candy, but should warn that it should only be consumed in limited quantities. The sugar alcohols in some sugar-free products are laxatives, and at the early stages you don't want dehydration issues (not to mention spending all your time on the throne). -
Some suggested soft foods might include: Scrambled eggs (soft, boiled, poached), Egg Salad, Tuna Fish moistened well with low-fat mayo, Chicken Salad, Salmon moistened with mayo (no celery or hard pieces of veggie), Cottage Cheese , Mild low-fat cheese, Mashed, canned or cooked fruit, Mashed, canned or well cooked veggies, Refried beans with a bit of low-fat cheese, Pressure cooked meats to tenderize, Soft fresh banana, Occasional mashed sweet potato, Yogurt, Occasional baked, mashed potatoes (yes, these are carbs, but your body does need some)

You will be eating soon enough, and enjoying your foods - albeit in smaller quantities. I'm in the mushy phase and just made the most delicious cauliflower "pizza" ... there are many recipes that are mushy, healthy and simply delicious. You will be more discriminating as to what you eat because you can only have a small amount. Just be patient and things will get better soon. At 3.5 weeks out, I feel awesome!!

Ha-ha-ha. I've been laughing so hard reading these. I have tears streaming down my face. And we actually bought into this crap out of desperation ... Another one is the candy diet... I think I did it in college - you would just eat hard candy all day.... seriously.

Slider foods
Healthiernewme replied to Alyjourneys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are any foods that don't provide any real nutritional value and/or that don't provide restriction. Ex: potato chips ... and I found out mashed potatoes/potato salad are sliders for me - I can eat more than I should. Like my surgeon said over and over again ... protein and produce, if you stick to these, you won't have a problem. It's just hard in the beginning phase since you just want to eat something that feels good - that and head hunger. -
Where the May sleevers i just got my date!
Healthiernewme replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potatoes are a slider. Yes, I found this out too. No more potatoes for me for a while. -
This is a decision only you can make. Make a list of pros and cons, and do your research.

3 weeks out eating about 1200 cal/day
Healthiernewme replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Theory of Fat Availability: •There is a set amount of fat that can be released from a fat cell. •The more fat you have, the more fat can be used as a fuel when dieting. •The less fat you have, the less fat can be used as a fuel when dieting. •Towards the end of a transformation, when body fat is extremely low you may not have enough fat to handle a large caloric deficit anymore. At the extreme low end, when your body fat cannot ‘keep up’ with the energy deficit you've imposed on your body, the energy MUST come from SOMEWHERE. This is when you are at risk of losing lean body mass during dieting (commonly referred to as ‘starvation mode’). This happens at extremely low levels of body fat, under 6% in men and 12% in women [Friedl K.E. J Appl Phsiol, 1994]. -Brad Pilon and John Barban (from The Reverse Taper Diet in The Adonis Index and Venus Index manuals) -

Getting "Backed up"
Healthiernewme replied to KayCTheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloe Vera. -
You might want to ask your surgeon. Mine said no compression garments for the first couple of weeks. Maybe so the wounds could heal and breathe? I didn't ask why.
-
Wow! 70 lbs.!! That's incredible.

I have a cough, what can I take?
Healthiernewme replied to jmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't take anything besides (maybe) a cough drop without talking to your doc first. -
How about forgoing the shakes for a while and drinking clear proteins like Isopure? Or putting plain unflavored protein powder in your yogurt? How long ago did you have your surgery?

Water?
Healthiernewme replied to Craving2BaHealthyMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a problem with water, just things that were too cold. I would always drink room temp water and was fine. Now, I'm able to drink cold water with no problems. -
Pain when drinking

Totally normal and will go away soon. Tell him to take smaller sips. -
swimming pool after the surgery? How soon?
Healthiernewme replied to ProudMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two weeks out and my incisions are completely closed. I will probably give it a couple more days just to make extra sure before I hit the pool. -
Ideas for what to tell people?
Healthiernewme replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find no need to say anything to anyone. I only took two days off from work and haven't lost that much weight yet. Plus, I don't want anyone monitoring my progress or what I eat. I did this for me.
