how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?
NewSetOfCurves replied to leeann71's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Sorry for your loss Laura. I lost my father-in-law (who has been a second father for me for 15 years) and my uncle this year. Loss is hard and stressful. I hope it gets better for you soon. -

Fear of dating after major weight loss
NewSetOfCurves replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Singles Forum
I have to agree with Laura on this one. When I first started dating my husband I was a size 4. Now I am a size 18 and a 100 pounds heavier. He still loves me and our relationship is better than it was when I was a young skinny girl. People first come together based on initial attraction. Some people are attracted to skinny, some are attracted to full, and others are attracted to big people. I personally am attracted to fuller guys that are muscular. I am not attracted to skinny. I don't think that I am a superficial person, that is just what I am attracted to--I can't help it. Everybody has their own taste. But once you surpass that initial meeting that first attracted you to each other and you discover what's underneath, what's on top doesn't matter anymore because we fall in love with the layers that are beneath the physical aspect of the person; we fall in love with emotional, intellectual and spiritual part of that person. Don't worry about what could have, would have, or might happen. When you do that you live in your fears and assumptions and you stop life from happening. Good luck to you. I hope that your relationship with your best friend works out. -
Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
NewSetOfCurves replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's my exact situation! Everyone tells me the same thing, but I respond with, "If I could have lost it, I would have done it within the past 10 years!!! I have 80 pounds to lose, and I get sleeved June 18th...can't wait! -

Yes, I splurged on mine too. I actually got mine for $2k--on sale! But it was worth every penny. It's quiet, many different options and programs, many different levels of resistance and incline, fits in a corner, out of the way, and I use it for my morning and evening workouts (45-50 minutes). I've lost a good amount of weight on it and I have begun to tone up my thighs. No regrets with my purchase. -

Me too! I love my elliptical. Treadmills hurt my knees with the pounding, but my elliptical is smooth with good resistance and incline. Burn baby burn! -

I start pre-op on the 3rd too! Yes! I'm an over achiever too! I started shakes in the AM. Monday I'll start shakes in the AM and PM. Then on the third I'll transition to full liquids. -

Sick of flavored protein shakes? Try this...
NewSetOfCurves posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13164543&cp=3593187.2108294 Out of all the unflavored protien powders, i thought this was the best: GNC's Pro Performancw100% whey Protein. It truly doesn't taste like anything, nor is it accompanied with any odor. It will thicken up what you mix it into, but just a little bit. I'll take that over the shakes, any day! -

You look great! I know plastics is definitely in my future. Someone mentioned a good doc in Monterrey. Where in Mexico did you go? And, if you don't mind, how much? -
Sleeved May 15 and Regretting it
NewSetOfCurves replied to RainbowBrite26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are NOT STUPID! You made a choice to lead a healthier lifestyle...to elongate your life! Don't let ANYONE make you feel that way! I'm not sleeved, but I am on this forum everyday, I go to support groups every week, and my doctor is very one-on-one with his patients. I've learned that these feelings of regret are very, VERY normal! It's such a HUGE adjustment to your lifestyle and the eating habits you've ALWAYS known. One day you will be able to eat those things you love, but only in moderation, never in the oversized portions that we serve ourselves, or that gets served to us at restaurants. This stage will pass. You will have moments of regret and a sense of loss. Allow yourself your human emotion, cry if you must for a little while, but then you need to put your big girl panties on and wipe them away. You will not do yourself any good dwelling on the should'a, could'a, would'as. Focus on your goals, focus on your post-op diet, and before you know it you will be able to eat the things you like. The additional plus is, you'll be a thinner, healthier you when you get there. Good luck to you!! -
I pretty much went through the exact same thing with my husband, and I responded to him exactly like you did. However, he is now on board without making comments or being negative. I'm even preparing him for when I go and get plastic surgery in a year or two. I get sleeved on June 18th, so hopefully all goes well. He too decided to lose weight and has dropped what I've lost in a 4 month period, in only one month! Ughhhh! Drives me nuts!

Men. They build muscle faster. They are naturally leaner. They are not as susceptible to our estrogen fueled emotional fits. They don't have periods and deal with constant monthly re-wiring of their hormones. They don't bare children or have to deal with the body and skin deformations that come with child bearing. And to top it off, they seem to drop weight 10x faster than us. Ya. It pisses me off too. It is what is. Sometimes we have to vent about it, but then we have to accept it, push harder, worker harder, and kick a$$ in the end!

My bad! Lol! Yes, it's tough, but I think you're doing a great job. Some people don't even have a pre-op diet and they come out fine. I'm not saying not to follow your doctor's instructions or to br carefree, I'm just saying that I agree with you...you're being a little to hard on yourself. Acknowledge the mistake, get back on and continue. If you fall off again, correct it again. You're going to be fine!

You don't suck. You're human and like many of us here, we are here because we have a problem with food. Liz is right, try your best, fight as much as you can, if you fall off the bandwagon, dust yourself off and get back on. You can do this!

I'm very bitter. All my pre-operative testing cleared, EXCEPT the upper endoscopy. Now I have to out of pocket ANOTHER $650. Ruined my day

how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?
NewSetOfCurves replied to leeann71's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I know you all are experienced with the sleeve and I'm not ( not until June 18th anyway--sorry, i'm excited because I got my date!), but I've been experimenting with unflavored Proteins and adding them into my Soups, homemade sugar free Popsicles, Jello, drinks, etc...wondering if this would be an option for those of you struggling to get your Protien in...to add it into the existing food and drinks you're consuming to obtain those extra grams? I'm also aware that too much Protien hinders absorption, or rather that your body will only absorb about 30 grams at a time, but...it's just an idea. I guess I'm brainstorming for my future consumption as well. Not sure what's going to work. If you have yet to try the unflavored proteins, I like GNC's unflavored whey. I cant really taste any difference at all, just a slight thickening to the texture; and I just ordered Muscle Feasts unflavored Premium Protein Blend (this one interested me because it contains 1/3 Pure micellar casein, 1/3 hydrolized whey and 1/3 whey isolate). Reviews on different sites and forums rave about this product. If your interested ill let you know how this one goes (shipped today, so I'll have it soon). -

Soon to be sleeved
NewSetOfCurves replied to mzblaze36's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This site is wonderful...it is informative and what is great is that the information comes from people whom have EXPERIENCED it all and whom are willing to share it all. So, welcome! I've been experimenting with different shakes that have been recommended on this site and I'm not liking any of them too much. I like muscle milk light (chocolate) the best (which is an RTD, or Ready to Drink). GNC has an unflavored whey Protien that you can add to any liquid or food item that blends well, and I love it because you don't taste ANYTHING. I just ordered Muscle Feasts unfflavored Premium Blend that seems really awesome with great reviews and 3 1/3 part mixture of casein, hydrolized whey, and whey isolate. Anyway, hope this helps! Good luck with your sleeve -

I know! I'm so excited that I have the endurance! And I think having an obligation to meet others expectations will force me to exercise even on those days when I don't feel like it. I remember having those days in the past when I taught aerobics as a job, but the obligation to be there forced me to workout, and the high kicked in during and definitely after the workout.
