June 2013 Sleevers GROUP
NewSetOfCurves replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey fellow June sleevers! Just updating here. I'm 12 days post op. Down 15 pounds since day of surgery, and 11 pounds away from onederland! I haven't been there in about 10 years and I'm looking forward to it. Best of luck to all my June peeps! #lovingmysleeve -

Gain Pounds, Lose Fat? Very Curious
NewSetOfCurves replied to JolieBug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there is too much focus on weight. You should aim for a certain size, because those who do a balanced exercise regimen of cardio and weight training will build muscle. And, as mentioned by several other posters, muscle is denser than fat and you will weigh more. BUT, your frame WILL be thinner despite the added weight. When I was thin and fit, I weighed 140 and fit into a size 2/4. I'm a little over 5'6" (not too tall). Most girls that were my height and whom wore the same size weighed a lot less, but they were not packing any muscle. -

I'm just going by my doctor's guidelines, which--by the way--are available online in printable PDF files. http://www.lonestarsurgical.com/nutrition/ -
Here is my doctors link to his nutrition page. There are pdf's that you can print that guide you through each post op phase and the recommended time for each phase. Hope it helps. http://www.lonestarsurgical.com/nutrition/#nutrition

EXERCISE 3 WEEKS POST OP
NewSetOfCurves replied to sherisleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with you all on the energy levels. Personally, I love to exercise (was an aerobic instructor/weight trainer during my college years), but my energy zaps so quickly now I can barely walk a mile without feeling faint. It's a full time job getting food and liquid in, and despite the all day constant effort, I can barely get 500 calories in (which, by the way, is a recent victory...I was barely getting 200 cals the first week). Getting better, but I must say I AM loving my sleeve...11 days post op and 15 pounds down -

2 days post op and in miserable pain when i sit or lay down
NewSetOfCurves replied to wmbt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Days 2-4 were the worst for me. Particularly the gas pain in the back and left shoulder area. As the previous poster stated, heating pads were my saving grace. Hang in there, it'll pass before you know it. Walk, walk, walk. It'll get those gases flowing on out of you. Congratulations and I hope you feel better soon! -
Looking for something....
NewSetOfCurves replied to Angel465's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Angel I have four kids and understand you fear, but the chances of death on the table are slim. As someone stated earlier: your more likely to die in a car accident than in surgery. When I asked my doctor about this, he said that he had sleeved over 1500 patients and that he had never had a death, and of those 1500 +, only 3 had complications post op. Shop around for a good doctor, ask lots of question, ask about their success rate, bougie size (don't go too big, you want a tight sleeve for long term success; my doctor used a 36)), research patient ratings and comments about your doctor. Research, research, research. The better informed you are, the better off you'll be. And if you're the type that gets easily discouraged by others negativity, you don't have to share this with anyone if you don't want to. I didn't give a crap what anybody said. I had done the research, knew the risks were minimal, knew that I wanted it, so I did it. I'm going to live longer and healthier because of it. Good luck to you. -
weight gained back
NewSetOfCurves replied to dgryan74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should do a search on here. Some people--no, a LOT of people have told their band horror stories. And I mean HORROR stories. All of them had it, or will have it, removed and revised to a sleeve. -

NewSetOfCurves replied to wasabi's topic in Insurance & Financing
Guilty! I wore the ankle weights!!! -
I'm experiencing the exact same same thing. Left rib cage, left backside rib cage, left shoulder, and waist. Called Dr's office and they said to take Tylenol, and if it worsens to call back.

8 days post op, trouble
NewSetOfCurves replied to Nelly1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 days post op and was REALLY struggling with getting the liquid intake, but eating the sugar free Popsicles was suggested to me, as well eating ice. That has made ALL the difference. Jello is easier to get down as well. I felt the same way about food. Even though I am on full liquids, my full liquids include yogurt, 1/4 cup scrambled eggs with cheese, 1/4 cup refried Beans, and 1/4 cup cream of wheat (each at different meals of course). Like I said, I too was super scared to try these, but I've tried the cream of wheat and the egg--WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I ate it very slowly...took me almost 45 minutes, but I ate them and they went down better than Water. I feel so much better, more like myself. My headache finally went away... Anyway, hope this helps and hope you feel better soon. -

NewSetOfCurves replied to megansmommy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also want to add that my doctor boasts of having sleeved almost 2000 patients and has only had 3 of those almost 2000 suffer from leaks (which is WAY under the 2% national average for complications in VSG surgery). Again, his diet for ALL his patients consists of a full liquid diet beginning at 48 hours after surgery. Foods included in the full liquid diet are: yogurt, scrambled egg with cheese, cream of wheat, and refried Beans. -

Looking for anyone who has been re-sleeved~
NewSetOfCurves replied to vicki s's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I just read something yesterday. Can't find it though. A girl from Canada got sleeved in Mexico with a Dr. Pompoya? Can't remember Dr.'s name. And it was a failed sleeve. He left too much stomach. She just got sleeved again and the right amount of stomach was removed. She has been very successful so far. -
TMI - explosive diarrhea days after surgery?

I'm right there with you TakingBackControl. Was sleeved the same day as you, and considering our diet, it's quite typical. Hope your doing good. -
Had surgery June 19...my experience
NewSetOfCurves replied to Blue73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on the 18th and despite struggling with back and shoulder pain, and getting fluids in... No regrets! I have 4 kids at home and since I've been home, I've had friends and family bringing dishes over so that I can rest and recover. The dishes have consisted of lasagna, Mexican food, pancakes, etc. and not once have I been tempted by the food, or has the food appealed to me. I am simply not hungry. Loving my sleeve so far. Just working on getting those fluids in. -
How long does it take for gas/air in the stomach to go away?
NewSetOfCurves replied to lyd83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved the same day as you. Experiencing the back pain as well. Heating pads have worked to push gas out of back area--lessening the pain almost completely (except for left shoulder), and of course the walking. -
...and having a hard time getting fluids in. I've managed 4 oz apple juice, 4 oz broth...tummy hurts...feeling weak...
