    Success/Failure of Sleeve

It's difficult enough to cut back on a regular daily basis. I found that the closer to my surgery date the more I wanted to eat clean...wanted to shrink my liver. I won't miss alcohol and I think I can manage life with a bite of a cupcake instead of 1/2 a cake, but my weakness is cookies! So we shall see.... As for the drinking, so far I don't pour a glass of anything until I drop my plate in the sink. To date I've slipped up two times in 5 days. Straws are harder to give up, but I'm trying

    Success/Failure of Sleeve

Second guessing is normal and expected. It's good that you plan for your new life such as you do graduation (study), a wedding (planner or your mom...lol), a birth, and your retirement. I'm sure that having an "old food" will be tempting, but I'm with Linda, I want this new life to be as close to perfect (food wise) as possible. I've had my 26 years of bad eating I would like to live the next 26-30 eating properly and living life without all this fat. Nice!! Keep your head up and your eyes on the goal of a healthy new life! Haters gonna hate. You have to know that this TOOL that you've chosen is going to get you to your goal!!

    November buddies where are you?

Eat it while you can! I am not missing regular food at all on this detox. The food choices I have to select from are amazing and I'm not hungry at all. Woo hooo!! November is ours! (doing happy dance) I agree, it's not so bad today (I'm on day 5 of 14). Had the Roasted Butternut w/ dried Cherries Chicken Quinoa bowl from First Watch, for lunch. Nice meal! Congrats!! I did my pre-op blood work, ekg, ultrasound of gall bladder, and xray 3 weeks ago. Not sure how each doctor requires it. The insurance company just said I had to get the surgery done within 31 days of having labs/tests done.

Bad habits that i cant stop....

Find out what's causing you to regress. There's an issue that you aren't facing. It may be a really bad issue and you aren't ready to deal with it...but if you start by acknowledging it, then that's a start. After that you can refocus on your diet habits like Master said. You've beat yourself up, now get back to your goals.

Anyone Afraid of Telling Others about WLS?

I too told a very dear friend about this surgery and my desire to have it done. Right away I felt her bristle and then she stated that she thought I was using it as a cop out and that I just wasn't trying hard enough. First off, she's as heavy as I am. Second, she has no clue of my struggle, my pains, my tears, my desire to live like the thinner inner person that I am. I have mulled over her words, they gnawed at me. Then the PA said something that made perfectly good sense. This procedure is a tool. A tool to help you achieve your goal! So who couldn't use a tool to help them. Cars are tools. Clothing, jewelry, shoes, the gym, diets, exercise, etc. are all TOOLS!! We can use whatever tool we see fit that will get us to our goal. So I am proudly going to have this surgery and I will gladly share my story with anyone who asks. If there are those who are too narrow minded to see that this tool is helping me to become a healthier person, then that's theIr dumb ass loss, I refuse to allow that negativity to slow my roll! LOL Oh, and that "friend" has stopped calling/texting etc. since she now has a plump boyfriend to share her lifestyle with (eating). Let's see who's healthier and happier this time next year!

    So overwhelmed...

Yes! Pump those brakes and take a step back. You can't tackle all of the issues at once, so do them one at a time. When one gets to be a bit too much, shift gears and focus on the other issue. I've yet to have surgery. I'm only 13 days out from my date with the surgeon. It's taken me 18-19 months to get here. Every day I had doubts...up until Sept 25th. That day I knew I was going in the right direction and nothing was going to stop me (not even the threat of my doctor not being in network anymore). I could have eaten so many bad things to get me through...but I held fast, refocused on what I could do, and told myself that all will work out. I know you may like to worry, but it can cause extra acid in your stomach and that's not what you need. Just breathe and relax a bit.

    So overwhelmed...

I have no advice about the insurance portion of your stress. All I can say is focus on your goal and stay the course. It will all work out for you!!

    Waiting really SUCKS!

I've always been bigger than my mom (she was a size 8 all of my childhood). So when you live with that comparison all of your young life, it doesn't matter that you are a good size and healthy. I was a size 16 when I was 19. That should have been good enough, but I crept up to a 24 over the past 29 yrs. Now I want to be back in a size 14/16 and am glad that I have this opportunity to do so BEFORE any more co-morbidities come my way (currently only have the >30 BMI). It really sucks how insurance companies (suit wearing glass tower living fools) dictate what the people need and how it should be done. Who are they to determine how long weight takes to come off, who should get this help, etc. Crazy!

    Waiting really SUCKS!

    Waiting really SUCKS!

I obtained a Fitbit from work and it's a great tool. It records my steps and I can go online and log my sleep, food, my weight, HR, BP, Glucose, and a journal. Pretty awesome tool. http://client.fitbit.com/home I think cheating is a part of life. I usually have a better plan set up, but once in awhile you just NEED those goodies! lol

    Waiting really SUCKS!

I too am in the waiting process. I've spoken with the insurance co. and it's a green light, now I'm doing the monthly weigh-ins (for 6 freakin' months!!gah!). I'm trying to eat healthy, just to see if I can lose anything before Nov. But I cheat almost every other day (one day cheese cake, next time mini Mr. Goodbar's, and even too much macaroni and cheese). I just wish the surgery had already taken place and I was on the road to weight loss and results. **sigh** But I have to tough it out. Don't stress too much over it. I'm sure you will call again and speak to someone when you are sober and remember all that was said! LOL

    Who Are You?

Hello! My name is Pamela. Just found this site about 2hrs ago, read a few posts and really liked what I saw and the support given here. I'm pre-op, have been to the seminar, had my first doctors visit April 18th, am on target with the 6 months of diet, will start the insurance (United...they pay) process when they tell me, and my surgery will probably take place in early November 2013 with Dr. Alfredo Fernandez. I've researched and read. I know at 5'6" 258 lbs and being almost 50, that I do not want to go into the next 35-40 yrs of life being this heavy or heavier. So I made the decision to alter my life. The sleeve is perfect as my only co-morbidity is my BMI of 41.7 and I don't really want to wait for more to jump on board! I look forward to reading the various topics and asking many questions. My plan for diet is to eat clean for the next 6 months, start a Vitamin routine, and buy a bike.
