Obesity's 'Disease' Status May Spur Surgeries, Drug Research
dork replied to Tim H.'s topic in Insurance & Financing
Just read the article...and the comments. I have been a yoyo dieter all of my life. I was a chubby kid and turned in to an obese adult. I have been on every fad diet and weight watchers. I joined a gym last year to try again to take responsibility for my health. Being 100 pounds over weight the skinnies gave me dirty looks and re-wiped the equipment down after i got off and wiped it down. Maybe they thought I had a disease??? I have again tried to take responsibility for myself. My insurance company didn't pay for my surgery...I paid cash for it!!!Why do people think we like being overweight??? They think I like having my bones ache? Being on sugar and cholesterol meds? What the hell are wrong with these people. I would've written a what for in the comments, but I didn't want to waste my time signing in. -
The good, the bad & the ugly... Mexico Bariatric Center, Dr. Kelly, MI Hospital
dork replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just got an email back from Lora. She said yes they are using Nova now as Florence was way overcrowded with 3 surgeons. She said it was a bigger more expensive hospital. It looks very nice. -

The good, the bad & the ugly... Mexico Bariatric Center, Dr. Kelly, MI Hospital
dork replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Interesting. I booked directly with Dr Kelly at the wlsclinic site. Got it set up with Lora. Surgery at Florence (may 30th), had leak test at Angeles and stayed at the Lucerna. We had great service there. Was very clean and comfortable. I didn't meet Lora, but his wife Cece came with him twice to the hotel and took us back to the airport. All was good with us. I even refused pain meds the next morning. -
2 days post op and feel like poop! Also, have questions
dork replied to cmathews77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was lucky I was one who bounced back. Maybe that pain you are experiencing is gas? When ever I felt that between my shoulder blades I would pop a gas x strip and walk. Also, my stomach gurgled like crazy. I'm 3 weeks out now and it's calming down. Give it a little time. Hang in there...you will be fine. -
I used Dr Kelly also. Had mine done May 30th. I stopped the pain meds on the 1st full day after. He visited me a few times at the hotel. I got all of my paperwork. I was very pleased. I went direct....Florence hospital, leak test at Angeles, stayed at the Lucerna. I am doing fine.

Signs posted at border warning away Americans to Mexico?
dork replied to chickadee73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We went across the street to a VW car show. I bet there were 1000 locals and us 2 Americans. We didn't feel threatened at all...but we didn't go into any back alleys either. Just don't do anything you wouldn't do in a big city in the states. -
I went to Mexico. Paid $5200 plus pane tix. There is a Mexico forum if you are interested in reading about it.

Sounds kind of like me too. Every time I felt that little pain between my shoulders...take a strip and walk. It was only there a couple days. My stomach still gurgles a little but not as much as in the beginning. Now when I eat I get little burps...telling me slow down! Hang in there....

I"m 3 weeks out. I don't think I will go back to the gym for a while yet. I'll see what the doc says next week. I did try cod fish last night. Too dry and I heard you shouldn't have beef unless it is pressure cooked. I feel like i'm loosing way to slow also, but am losing. I kinda hit a stall last week and I upped my colories a tad yesterday. Made a pnut butter banana smoothie with protein powder....yummy...now to day it's back to regular eating.

Try some baby food toddler meat sticks. They are soft and mushy but at least look like food.

I'm 55. I did not have the training as I am a self pay. I rid my house of bad food. My hubby had been doing his own cooking for the last 2 weeks. He's lot about 6 pounds. But I am cooking again. 3 weeks out...having fish and green beans...although it will only be enough to fill my 4 oz tupperware dish. If my hubby wants snacks he buys a small bag at his work or keeps them in his truck. I haven't wanted any. I did not spend this much money and what I've gone through to sabotage i. I am constantly thinking about and planning what to eat, when to drink. Now I don't have kids at home...I can see that being hard. But hey, throw out the chips. Do your kids really need them???

Yeah!!! yes, very lovely. Like the huge smile

the crime rate has been reduced drastically in the boarder towns. Now Juarez (sp) is one place I would not go to....just my opinion form research. -
I was sleeved on the 30th. I was on clear liquids the first 2 weeks but I added protein drink in..as per my dr. This is my 3rd week and I am eating soft. Cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, baby food meat sticks, canned fruit and veggies, jello, pudding, string cheese, laughing cow wedges...tonight i am trying fish and green beans. I am slowly working up to eating a meal. I've been lucky enough that I had no problems so far.

I was there a few weeks ago. I didn't see anything. I'm a travel agent. Believe me, I researched this. It's still on the govt website, but it hasn't been updated in some time. We had no problems or saw anything at all. -
I agree. I'm a food aholic and I believe it, just like putting nicotein etc in cigs. These big corporations are out to make money. They don't care about our health. I hate eating nutrasweet now. I've been completely off of it for 6 months and now I have to eat foods with it. It just makes you crave more sweets. I'm really trying to eat healthy, My daughter is vegan and no gmo's etc. off milk and on almond milk....less calories and more calcium. I will watch it...but I have tried some of Dr Oz weight loss remedies with no luck. Got a cupboard full of various capsules.

I can't answer about the insurance because they are all different. Call them. Mine didn't cover it so I was a self pay. I had the sleeve and was up the next day with no pain meds. That's me though....it is pretty quick recovery...

Any issues with using US $ in TJ?
dork replied to tesser85's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We didn't have any problems with exchange. The clerks at the 7/11 type stores have calculators. As far as money stolen...bummer! We did keep our phones, ipods etc hidden when we went for a walk. -
I too went thru the same thing. At that 3rd week I just couldn't take it anymore. I asked the surgeon if I could add cream soup and he said to go onto the soft foods. That was me though. I have seen some people on this board eating soft from the beginning and others at 4 weeks. Talk to your dr. Don't go buy what's on this board. Everyone is different. I came thru my surgery with flying colors and rejected my pain meds the next day...that's me.....

I went to the groc this morning and found these little 2 packs of 2 oz tuna. I will pop one of those into my purse along with a cheese stick. But the roll ups above sound good. Also so laughing cow cheese wedges.

Looking for a replacement for my lifelong diet pepsi~~
dork replied to vicki s's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I thought carbonated beverages were a big no no being sleeved as it expands your stomach. I quit drinking diet beverages last Christmas trying to cut out artificial sweeteners. I do drink a lot of unsweetened ice tea. If you need sweetener use truvia. -
Side and Stomach sleepers-How long...
dork replied to Cheer Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept on my right side the 3rd night. I don't sleep on my left side as they say not to as it smashes your heart.
