  1. Before my surgery I found the many "stall" posts to be discouraging, not necessarily negative. Eating 500 calories a day or less and exercising 5 days a week with little to no weight loss is frustrating with or without surgery and people come here to vent and give and receive support. I will admit, before my surgery I stayed off of this site because those posts worried me. But I'm three weeks out and have been in my first stall" and seeing that many other people have gone and are going through the same thing has actually reassured me that I'm not doing anything wrong and that it's just a part of the process. I have also been having gas pain and have been reassured by various posts about gas. Don't leave, just don't click on the posts you aren't interested in reading. highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 206 DOS was May 7th 2013

    Annoyed with PCP

I love my PCP but when I first went to him about WLS he told me I didn't need it and that I could lose the weight if I go on a diet. I made him run all these tests on me and refer me for a sleep study anyway. My BMI was 41 with no comorbids. Luckily My bariatric surgeon had a list of endocrinologist, pulmonologist, cardiologist, etc that he preferred me to use for my insurance clearance so I didn't even need my PCP until my last clearance just to say I am ok to have surgery. For many bariatric surgeons this is big business. They have relationships with the doctors needed to write clearance letters which makes to process easier. There is always a way around a PCP who is resistant. The pre surgery process is super frustrating and many will try to discourage you. highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 206 DOS was May 7th 2013

    Pain pain go away

I am three weeks post opp and experienced the same sharp stabbing pains in my side and back. It woke me up in the middle of the night and the pain was worse when I took deep breaths. It happened the night I tried whey Protein for the first time. I believe it was really bad gas. Although it still feels sore now and it's been 3 days. The pain goes away all together when I work out. But as soon a I cool down... It comes back. highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 206 DOS was May 7th 2013
  4. I eat a dannon light and fit for lunch or Breakfast too but I mix half a scoop of natural flavor whey Protein into it. It does NOT taste good, but it helps me reach my protein goals. My surgeon actually sells several high protein meals on their website. They have a hot chocolate that's good. And the protein Meal Replacements are good as well. http://www.stopobesityforlife.com/ourstore/ highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 206 DOS was May 7th 2013
  5. I had my surgery May 7th. The day of surgery I weighed 219. I came home from the hospital weighing 228. By the end of the first week I was back at 219 so I lost nothing but the hospital water week one (I was soooo pissed). Week two I went from 219 to 208. So I lost 11 pounds in one week. I am in my third week and have only lost a pound so far. Total lost since surgery is 12 pounds. I am praying I dont reach a stall but it seems inevitable. I have a HARD time drinking all of the liquids and I get 350 to 450 calories per day. I just strated back walking (slowly). I think not weiging your self every day really helps (sooo hard not to though).

    Pains

make sure your temperature is not high. I had my surgery May 7th and went home May 8th. By May 10th I was having so much pain in my entire abdomen and chest and I had a 102 fever. I called my doc and he told me to go to the emergency room. Turns out I had phnemonia and then I found out when they excised my stomach they damaged my spleen. I had to stay in the hospital 3 days. I just got home and I am now healing well I think. when in doubt call your surgeon.
  7. I had my surgery on Tuesday May 7th and JUST got home from the hospital. I lost 8 pounds on the Pre-opp liquid diet and gained ALL 8 back in the hospital in ONE day. I was feeling so discouraged, but I feel a little better seeing that this is a common experience. I feel so bloated and gassy right now. When does this gassy feeling go away? Ive been walking 15 miniutes every two hours around the clock.
  8. The wait does suck. For me I had been going back and forth for a year before I made the decision to have WLS. Once I knew that's what I wanted, I was eager to get it going. I started my journey in August 2012. I consulted with a surgeon who I really liked, but his process was totally confusing (terrible admin support staff). I went and had all these tests done, did and endoscopy, but I wasn't doing any weigh ins as I was confused by what I had to do. By November I decided to switch surgeons. I had my first consultation in January 2013 and my surgery is scheduled for May 7th 2013. Now all I am worried about is my primary care physician giving me clearance in the time frame I need. Getting the surgery date was a huge relief. But I won't truly feel satisfied until I'm waking up in recovery after surgery.
  9. I think it will be ok. I know exactly how you feel. I would call my mom and cry like a baby. This surgery is a big decision and life changing. When you think about your life after weightloss and make all these plans and it seems so close... but insurance is pending its so frustrating. I can't speak for all insurance, but I doubt it will be a deterrent in approval.
  10. I gained 4 pounds during my 3 month weigh ins and I was nervous it would impact my insurance approval. It didnt. My doctor didnt even mention it to me. I had sleepless nights filled with anxiety (for the first time in my life) toward the end of my weigh ins. Once I got insurance approval a weight lifted. Now I have to have the surgery. I am still consumed with this process and can't wait for the actual surgery.
