    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Hi everyone! Just touching base.Day 13 and soon to start puree.Yippee! I have fought off another bout of the chest infection that my GP threatened to put me back into hospital for.Not loving the effects of the antibiotics but my sleeve seems fine.I can drink Water easily and don't have any nausea. My new best friend is a tspn of greek yoghurt if I get hungry.I try not to worry that I have hunger already as I am definitely filling up quickly on very little and Protein helps a lot.I don't think it helps that I am cooking and baking for my family as usual ! Thanks to everyone for their advice and support earlier. Total weight lost since the op 4kg. Total lost since first consult with Dr Mosse in April 14kg.

Day 4 starting to get hungry!

Hi diddylou.I am learning about my new tummy -thanks for asking! I was disappointed and frustrated when I got so hungry so soon after the op.Now I am filling up very quickly on small amounts already and my hunger is gone if I have protein.Once I move onto soft food in a month I think it will get even better:)

Day 4 starting to get hungry!

I can have greek yoghurt now.Never cared for it before but now I love it! Lol! That is what over a month of liquids will do! 1tblspn gr yog mixed with low sugar juice in a kind of smoothie and I am stuffed. Also made a salty soup broth with a chicken (bones also) and veges then strained it.Anything liquid or very runny with good protein is definitely the way to stop any hunger.Day 12 and it is soooo much easier.Forgetting to eat and drink now and filling up very fast.I start purees in 2 days.Yay!

Day 4 starting to get hungry!

I was given a very specific diet plan for post surgery from the office of my surgeon (and the dietician works in the same office as well).I was told it was ok to start slowly sipping the protein shake by day 3 in half cup amounts as part of the fluids program. It really fills me up, stops the hunger and gives me some protein and vits/mins.*But* you will need to check with your Doctor or NUT if this is ok for you as it seems that everyone's post op instructions are all so different!

Day 4 starting to get hungry!

Congratulations on your sleeve.I am day 9 post-op and on liquids.I have the same issues as you diddylou and can easily sip my way through lots of liquids so I rang my dietician. He said being hungry at this point was normal for many people as the fluids trickle out of the tummy within 20 mins.Apparently once puree or soft food hits the sleeve this will stop. I am back on Protein Optifast shakes.I hate them but they help heaps

Thanks heaps kelliv. That is such a relief to know. I really appreciate the info and support. My TOM started this arvo and I am sure that did not help.Bl**dy hormones I ended up watering down some of my own pumkin Soup I had frozen for the puree phase with stock so it was runny.Had a bit of that very hot and salty, then had a few sucks of a frozen frost fruit icy pole.Hunger is gone now at last and tomorrow is a new day.

Ummm...am I meant to feel a bit hungry yet? I lost my hunger on opti and after surgery but I actually felt some hunger tonight.Did anyone else have this? I am 5 days post op and home 2 days after lots of vomiting cos of the morphine and fighting off pneumonia in hospital.I am sipping (Water, tea,Soup broths, runny low fat custard, apple or v8 juice,Optifast shake, low fat choc milk)and walking around the house constantly.I am filling up very quickly on 110 mls or less.Average cals per day 300 but still running around with the kids on playdates and had to go into work quickly this arvo even tho I am on leave :-( I am freaking out a bit - hunger - seriously?

I am sorry your dietician was a dud.Mine has been my supportive 'go to guy' all the way and is terrific.I can't help you with anyone down your way, I am sorry to say, as I am in Canberra.Let me know how you get on.

Yep.That happened to me.Plus I had a rash and diarrhea afterwards.Spoke to my dietician who thinks I am allergic to the soy but that may not be your issue. The stuff is not the nicest is it? In the end I found I could usually handle 2 Optifast or optislim meals plus one very low calorie meal (limited dairy and carbs) but was still a bit nauseous occasionally. You can have three tiny meals per day under some programs but it is hard to keep the portions right when you are in the hungry phase. I had to stay under 800 cals per day preferably averaging 750 cals per day and myfitnesspal was great with tracking that. So keep trying a small amount of different samples - I threw away so much expensive product until I found a few I could stomach - and talk to your dietician about the alternatives. I lost 10 kg from when I saw Dr Mosse to the day of surgery last week.It can be done! Good luck

Lol!You are way further down the track than me misty and I am always keen to learn from other people's experiences good, bad or otherwise Then I make my own mind up anyway! I have just finished packing for the hospital as I have to be there by 6.15am tomorrow for an 8am op.Giving my kids a last bed time cuddle was hard but I am doing this for both them and me. Surprised myself by sticking to 750 cals a day over the last two weeks but can't honestly say I was super strict with the opti today I am down to 122kg.That is 3kg lost in a fortnight and 5kg overall since my first consult with Dr Mosse in April. A big thanks to everyone in each stage of their sleever journey who have so generously shared on this thread. You are all fabulous people and have helped me more than you know.
