Any regrets or bad side efects?!
megancd replied to newme_xo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I definitely regret having the surgery. My operation was July 29th and I've been riddled with complications since. I've had 3 EGDs with balloon dilation, a stent placed and then removed five days later. I've spent a total of 20 days in the hospital so far and for the last ten days until at least October I will survive on TPN nutrition for 12 hours a night through a PICC line at home. The surgeon says that my stomach is still twisted/kinked but because it is so irritated and inflamed he wants to wait until October to intervene. My hope is that things improve and that I'll be able to eat again one day. I was so excited for this surgery and I really don't want to regret it long term. -
Congratulations and I'm glad you are loving the sleeve. Go Bucks! O-H- ...

I was postponed a month as well due to insurance issues. I found out 4 days before and was pretty sad about it.

Did you ask surgeon about his technique?
megancd replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 100% with you and also don't forget to tell anesthesia that there is not to be any residents intubating you, only the anesthesiologist themself! I'm in healthcare as well and I've seen enough horror stories myself. -
I lost the Stanley Cup also! Fun!

You look amazing!

You are looking great! Congratulations! -
Tomorrow will be the second endoscopy and balloon dilation for a recurring hourglass stricture. Originally my new stomach twisted causing this hourglass stricture. Then a week ago it was dilated using the endoscope just to twist back again. I'm just sharing in case anyone else is going through this or has gone through this.

Hi there. The 2nd dilation did not work for me. Four days later they placed the stent. My body totally rejected that and the stent was removed a week later. I'm still in the hospital now seeing if I can keep enough fluids down.
-
Hoping that the rough past three and a half weeks since surgery are over tomorrow. For some reason I'm more nervous about this stent placement than I was for the surgery itself or either of the balloon dilations.

Divorce rate..post op
megancd replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Divorce is a huge deal and I agree with those that say you should think back to when you fell in love in the first place. Also, time, space and some professional help might be worth it. At least if you try those things and you still end up divorced you'll know that you tried everything and didn't just give up. -
Thanks Roundy! And Yes! I can't wait to look back on all of this and say it was totally worth it. I'm sure we will feel that way. Hopefully sooner rather than later and yes we should stay in touch. I'm curious as to what they are going to find out for you.

Happy Anniversary!

So awesome! & you look so happy!

Hi Roundy. I'm with you. I had my surgery on 7/29 and haven't been able to keep anything other than a bit of apple juice and Gatorade down and even then sometimes I can't keep those down either. I had lots of lab work, ct with contrast and upper GI series before they did an endoscopy (EGD) and found out that my new stomach twisted causing a stricture and all of my problems. Now I'm working through the treatments for the stricture. 2 hospitalizations for dehydration, 2 scopes and balloon dilations and now an upcoming stent this Thursday. I feel for you. It's miserable!
-
I will be praying for you. I'm battling complications myself and I'm praying that they get resolved and don't get worse. Hang in there! We're going to get through this!

Hooray! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Love it! -
I had surgery on 7/29. I had a stricture that was balloon dilated five days ago. My problem is: I still am only able to keep down a very small amount of clear liquids. If I try protein shakes or any type of food it just sits in my esophagus, causes pain and then comes back up. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Should I call the surgeon's office? Do you think it might be a recurrence of the stricture?
-
I called and the surgeon believes I've narrowed again. So, on Monday I'll have another scope & dilation. Thanks for encouraging me to call. I'm supposed to start a new job in ten days and I just want to be fixed before then.

Sleeved on July 29th. Since then I've struggled to keep down anything. If I try even the littlest food (i.e. a bit of scrambled egg or creamy chicken soup) I vomit violently. Some liquids result in violent vomiting also. Every liquid results in spitting up at the least. Last night when taking the pills they've prescribed I got sick and lost all of them. Every time I drink/sip there is a sharp pain from sternum throughout my right chest. Two days ago I was in the hospital for dehydration and further testing. The upper GI series has ruled out a leak but they say that there is inflammation and narrowing and that the contrast wasn't moving through as quickly as it should. The Dr gave me some steroids to hopefully reduce this inflammation. Now I'm home for the weekend and they told me hopefully the steroids will be enough to relieve these problems but if not, the surgeon will do an EGD Monday with possible dilation. The surgeon is worried a bit about doing this procedure only 2 weeks out of surgery. I guess my question for all of you is if you've had or heard of anything similar and if I should go forward with the EGD? Also, what's the difference between a "narrowing" and a stricture? I'm scared that I've had such problems this far. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
