I love this thread. You go!
-
I did not have a pre-op diet, but was not allowed to gain anything or they would cancel surgery (I lost 6 lbs.).
-
You need to provide more info to answer that. Male or female? Age? Activity level? How close are you to goal? What is your average loss like?
-
I am 15lbs from my personal goal of 125. My BMI is 22 currently. Size 6/8, down from size 20.
-
Yes, hear it a lot. I have 15 lbs to go. My sister (overweight herself) assures me I will look terrible at 125 lbs. take it with a grain of salt.
-
Maybe mix a little liquid with it first? I never really noticed it before.

Trying to decide--Bypass or Sleeve?
NMJG replied to Time4Kindness's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you start with the sleeve, you can always convert to bypass later. You don't have that much to lose, I would give the sleeve a shot, IMHO. No malabsorption issues. -
What was the point?
NMJG replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is just the infamous 3 week stall. Happens to most people. Stick to your plan and don't get discouraged. Measure with a tape measure, you are losing inches even when the scale doesn't move. Completely normal for the scale to stick on a number at this point. Give it a few weeks, then you can get pissed off -
It took me about 4 days to get up to 75 g of protein, but I suspect I'm a lot smaller than you. I am sure you need more protein than I do.

If you were going to be sick it would have been fairly soon after eating the cupcake, I would think. One slip isn't going to ruin you, as long as it is one. We all fall off the wagon now and then, just be safe and kind to your new tummy and it will do good things for you Cheers

Calcium Citrate: What do you use?
NMJG replied to bloreorbust's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Trader Joe's calcium citrate. Horse pills, unfortunately. I switch off with Kirkland (Costco) chocolate calcium chewies. I like the chewies but they are 20 calories each. I also have been drinking almond milk for the calcium. Blue Diamond unsweetened Vanilla is 30 calories a cup and 45% of daily calcium requirement (that's 585 mg) Tasty in protein shakes. Gives you a break from horse pills. -
Stay away from cheddar biscuits, they are evil and will take over your soul! Just kidding Anything grilled should be fine, just ask them to hold the butter. Since you are not far out from surgery, stick with soft fish or shrimp.

I'm freakin out! Please help! ASAP!
NMJG replied to happymomandwife71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
High blood pressure is a comorbidity that qualifies you for WLS. It should not keep you from it, as WLS helps resolve it. However, they may put you on meds for it until it comes down. -
Yes, especially PB2, just mixed with a little water. A spoonful is a nice treat when you need a bite of something yummy. Comes in regular and chocolate, get it at Walmart in the pb section.

Me too. Tailbone hurts when sitting too long, especially on a hard seat. Also have trouble when my legs are together, like when you curl up on your side in bed. My knees knock together, very uncomfortable. Sometimes I miss my padding.

This will vary so much month to month. For restaurant ideas, check my post in Alex's recent poll about eating out, I list a bunch of restaurants and good sleever choices to order. I will say that at 8 1/2 months out, bread is still difficult for me, which I am thankful for, as is Pasta. Unfortunately, chocolate waited around and then came back with a vengeance and goes down real easy now. The only things that are really, really bad on Sleevette are strong cinnamon (cinnamon oil) and sour candies and strong carbonation like beer. I love sour candies and beer, so it's probably a good thing (sniffle).

Mmmm avocado...... Great mushy food, especially made into guacamole. With some lime juice, garlic and salt. Avocado is a healthy fat, not to be avoided. Just figure it into your daily calories. Three cheers for avocados!

I still can't drink beer. Champagne I can sip, but beer is just too much carbonation, for me anyway. Fullo- have fun on your birthday, but be careful to not overstretch your new sleeve

RJ, I'm sorry this stuff has bothered you. I haven't even noticed it, which shows you how dense I am. Of course it doesn't matter where you start, and no one should feel bad about themselves anywhere along the journey - or if they decide to not even go with WLS. We are all in this together, thick and thin (pun intended).

They haven't caused a problem for me like regular pasta. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly because they can be nasty if you don't.

How many calories at almost 10 months out?
NMJG replied to JessicaAnn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree, you may be losing inches instead of pounds right now. Just stick to your plan. You are likely at a plateau, which will pass. Just give it time. I would not increase calories if you want to lose more weight. -
Favorite multi-vit post op? please share!
NMJG replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatric Advantage is often recommended, but it makes a lot of people nauseated. I use Trader Joe's High Potency chewable multi. I also take D, High Potency B complex, B12 injections, Biotin, C, calcium citrate, Iron, Probiotics, and msm. -
Try a hot shower and steam yourself for 20 minutes or longer. I find that often helps. Hope you feel better.

Early on you won't have room for anything other than Protein. That is normal. However, by your third month, you should try to get vegs in, even if it is only a bite, since you must still eat your protein first. As you progress, you will be able to eat more vegs and eventually fruit. I am at 8 1/2 months. I can eat 3 oz of firm protein and about 1/4 cup of vegs at a meal. If the protein and/ or vegs are very soft, I can eat more, maybe a half cup. Vegs make a good low calorie snack once you get to the point that hunger returns or start wanting more food. From the beginning I have used fiber powder added to my Protein shakes. I get in 12 -15 g of fiber a day. I think the guideline is 12 g per 1000 calories.

Is glugging down a whole glass of water okay?
NMJG replied to SugarBomb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first, no, you can only sip. Later on you will gradually be able to drink more. I could glug pretty well at 7 months.
